Writing 1
Of all the people in Lily's life, one in particular stands out. As Lily thinks of Shanda, a smile spreads across her face. She feels loved and grateful more than ever that she has such a teacher and friend. Thanks to Shanda's presence, Lily has become a good dancer now.
Eleven years of dance and going on twelve that year, she doubted it would end up like any other year. She might be stuck in any empty spot and didn't know what to do with her next dance move. Little did she know that year would change her completely.
That year, Lily felt lucky that Shanda would choreograph (编舞) for her dance. Lily expected to work with Shanda, a young talented dancer, to have an okay dance, but she never expected she would have such an impressive impact on her way to dance.
The moment Lily walked into the marble floored, wall to wall mirrored rooms, she already felt like Shanda had faith in her. Shanda smiled at her with appreciative eyes. In the following days, Shanda always encouraged her, “Work to the best of your ability and keep going.” When she wanted to give up, Shanda told her that the real importance of dance was to love it.
Throughout their hard work and devotion, not only did Lily's ability to dance grow, but also their friendship grew. Shanda became more than a teacher to Lily. She was also a close friend that Lily could turn to for anything. Shanda gave her encouragement when Lily needed it the most, and Shanda was always there to cheer Lily up when she felt down.
As the year quickly came to an end, it was high time for Lily to show her dance to the audience. As she walked to the backstage filled with other dancers warming up and expecting their performance, she prayed for a good performance that would convey her improvement. The rhythmic music before her rang in her ears. She waited anxiously for her turn. Finally, after what seemed like days, the hostess announced “Lily”.

Writing 2
One New Year's morning, as we came down to breakfast, with very shiny faces and spendy aprons (围裙), we surprisingly found father alone in the dining room.
“Happy New Year. Papa! Where is Mother?” we cried.
“A little boy came begging and said they were starving at home. So your mother went to see and ah, here she is.”
As Papa spoke, in came Mamma, looking very cold, rather sad, and very much excited. “Not far away from here, lies a poor woman with a little newborn baby. Six children are huddled (挤在一起) into one bed to keep from freezing for they have no fire. There is nothing to eat over there, and the oldest boy came here to tell me they were starving on this bitterly cold day.”“My little girls, will you give them your breakfast, as a New Year's gift?”
We sat silent a minute and looked at the nice, hot porridge(粥), creamy milk, and good bread and butter; for we were brought up like English children, and never drank tea or coffee, or ate anything but porridge for our breakfast.
“I wish we'd eaten it up,” thought I for I was rather a selfish child, and very hungry.
“May I go and help carry it to the poor, little children?” asked Beth, who had the tenderest heart that ever beat under a spendy apron.
“I can carry that little pot,” said little May, proudly giving the thing she loved best.
“And I shall take all the porridge,” I burst in, heartily ashamed of my first feeling.
“You shall put on your things and help me, and when we come back, we'll get something to eat,” said Mother, beginning to pile the bread and butter into a big basket.

Writing 3
When I found out that my new friend Karina did not share my opinions about some stuff, I was very upset. It was hard to imagine disagreeing with her about anything because when we first met, we got along so well. It was as if we'd known each other forever.
“No way!” I said, as I sat next to her on the first day of karate (空手道) camp. “Are those banana chips in your lunchbox?”
“You like banana chips?” she said in a surprised voice. “They're my favorite snack.”
“My aunt brought some the last time she visited, and I've been craving (渴望) them ever since,” I said.
“I guess today's your lucky day,” she said, handing me the bag. “We have a big box that's kind of taking up space in the cupboard. So, you'd actually be helping me out!”
Right then is when I knew that Karina and I were meant to be friends forever. Whenever we got to pick a partner at camp, we picked each other. Whenever we had a break, we hung out together. The more time we spent together, the more we realized how amazingly alike we were. We both had two adorable cats, we both had an awesome younger sister, and we both had the same favorite song.
But then something happened. Karate camp was next to a piece of beautiful land that had a bunch of large old trees on it. Whenever it was nice out, we'd get to eat our lunch at picnic tables that were right by some of those trees.
After we finished lunch, our coach, Miguel, reminded us to keep the forest as clean and perfect as it was when we got here.
And that's when things got complicated.
Sam, one of our teammates, asked us, “Have you guys heard that shopping mall rumor They want to cut down a bunch of those trees to make room for a shopping center.” To my surprise, Karina said, “My parents told me the shopping center would make new jobs for people who really needed work and people's jobs were more important than trees.”

Writing 4
April Fools' Day
Nat woke early and jumped out of bed. Today was the best day of the year for him. Nat loved to play tricks, and today was April Fools' Day.
Some of Nat's tricks were big hits. Last year, he short sheeted his sister's bed. She couldn't understand what was going on and started to think that her legs must have grown much longer during the day. When she realized what had happened, she laughed her head off.
Some of Nat's tricks were not so successful. Mom didn't think finding a furry toy mouse in the fridge was humorous at all. After she calmed down a bit, she said, “That's it! There's a ban on Nat tricks for two weeks.”
Nat was also the class clown. He was always making jokes in class. He liked it when he made the other kids laugh. Since it was April Fools' Day, he felt like he had to come up with something really good to provide his classmates with some really good entertainment.
For that, Nat thought long and hard before he came up with his brilliant idea. He bought two toy frogs which were made out of green plastic and looked very realistic. Nat knew just the trick he would play on his classmates.
Nat arrived at school early. To succeed in his plan, he needed to get into the classroom before anyone else. Nat's class had a rainforest terrarium (饲养皿). It had plants, insects, and three frogs in it. Nat's idea was to pretend that the frogs had escaped. He knew that Ms. Lopez, his teacher, wasn't afraid of frogs but several of his classmates, including himself, were.
Nat slipped into the classroom. Good! There was nobody here. He put one of the toy frogs on the floor, near the terrarium and the other on his friend Stacey's desk. Nat knew that Stacey really didn't like frogs. Also, she played a great trick on him last April Fools' Day. To make his trick more convincing, Nat pushed the lid of the terrarium open. Then he rushed off to morning gathering.

The argument between us made me feel powerless and there seemed to be a barrier growing between us.
Later, IsuddenlyrealizedKarinahadherreasonsforbelievingwhatshedid. Karina took my hand sincerely and said, “I never want to quarrel with you again. Maybe we shouldn't hold on our own views so seriously, and instead, learn to respect each other.” I threw myself into her arms.
