The Earth we live in is facing a big challenge. The air and water have been polluted seriously. Resources (资源), specially water resources are also gradually becoming less and less. Therefore, let’s take action together to protect the beautiful blue planet.
What is World Water Day
People, animals and plants all depend on water. This day is about encouraging people to take action to fight the world water crisis (危机). The main focus of this day is to help achieve the goal of having clean water for everyone by 2030.
The water crisis situation

How can we help

◆Make a list.
Write down all the reasons why you want to stop a certain behavior—how it’s hurting you and why getting rid of it. Look at that list often. That will be helpful.
◆Join other activities.
It’s wise of you to do something else when you want to stop your bad habits. If you get angry easily, for example, you can practice deep breathing or go for a walk.
◆Give yourself a reward.
Before you get rid of a bad habit, decide what you’ll do to celebrate it if you achieve your goal.

(2024·河北邯郸·二模)Tomatoes are red, the sky is blue, and bananas are yellow, right Well, not exactly — color does not really exist (存在). What exists is light. Light is real, but color is not. It is our brain that creates color.
We’re told to trust our eyes, but our eyes have little to do with vision (视觉). We see much more with our brains. You sometimes see different colors because your brain thinks they have a different meaning. The brain does this by looking at what’s around the object. Here is an example. If you see a person wearing a white shirt against different backgrounds, your brain might express the same white color differently. Suppose this person stands in front of a bright yellow background, your brain might think the white shirt is more like gray. If the person moves to a dark blue background, the same white shirt might appear closer to a brighter color.
Color is created according to our past experiences, and sometimes there are optical illusions (视错觉). That
is because your brain includes the recent history of what you saw, at least for a brief time. But if you watch the thing for a longer time, your brain may forget the recent history and see the real color.
This raises the question: Do you see what I see The answer, in short, is no. Our past and present experiences are different. None of us even sees the world as it really is, but as a meaning that comes from our own experiences. It’s clear that seeing is not always believing.
14.What is real according to the writer

A.To make the text longer. B.To make a comparison.

16.What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us
A.Color is influenced by the background of an object.
B.Color comes from our past experiences.
C.Color is changing all the time.
D.White is the lightest color.
17.Which word is close to the underlined word “brief”
A.Hard. B.Simple. C.Quick. D.Short.
18.Which can be a proper title for the text

(2024·河北邯郸·一模)Do you compare yourself to other people Perhaps your best friend received something you really wanted for Christmas, or you’re not allowed to go to a concert but your brother or sister is. Even though comparisons are normal and can sometimes be helpful, focusing on your own progress is important for your happiness.
Why does focusing on me matter “We prefer to compare ourselves to others who are doing better or not as well as ourselves,” says psychologist (心理学家) Nicola Abbott. “But comparing your achievements to your past self (where you started) and your future self (where you’d like to get to) can be more positive.” This can make you feel proud of what you’ve achieved and excited about what you might do. Child psychologist Laverne Antrobus
agrees and says that focusing on your own goals is more worthwhile than always trying to come out on top.
Do comparisons make you unhappy Comparing yourself to those around you is natural and we often do it without realizing. It can help us to find our achievements and to form friendships with new people who have similar interests. However, it’s important to be realistic and remember that nobody is perfect, especially online and on social media. Taking note of how the comparison is making you feel matters, too.
If you begin to feel quite low, Abbott suggests choosing a different role model or focusing on your own strengths and what you’re good at. Antrobus agrees. She says that asking yourself questions like “________”, “What do I feel proud of ” and “What improvements can I notice ” can help to improve your self-esteem (how positive you feel about yourself).
“Jealousy (妒忌) is an ordinary feeling,” says Antrobus, “but focusing on improving your own performance can help you feel just as successful. Besides, learning to celebrate your friend’s achievements can help not only to improve your friend’s feeling but can also help you feel good. “It will encourage you to build each other up.”
19.The underlined phrase “focusing on” means ________.
A.taking part in B.paying attention to
C.playing a role in D.making use of

(2024·河北邢台·二模)There is no doubt that technology has had a big influence on our lives. People from all around the world can now talk to each other almost at once on mobile phones and the Internet. People can easily solve their problems with the help of computers and the world wide web. With this technology, it seems that the world is more connected now than ever before. Even so, there have been worries about technology making people feel lonely and disconnected from others around them.
So does this mean that technology makes us lonely
In my opinion, it is hard to say Yes or No.
It’s true that humans need communication with each other. If we depend on technology too much to communicate, this can badly impact our mental (心理的) health. For me, technology is a tool. And just like any other kind of tool—like scissors, a pencil or a ruler, for example, it depends on how we use it: in a right way or in a right place. Take social media (社交媒体) as an example. If you only use it to compare yourself with others, you might feel sad and lonely. But if you use it as a tool to connect with friends and family or to start a new community to talk about your hobbies and interests, the loneliness will turn into love and friendship.
When you feel lonely after staring at your computer screen all day, maybe you can use that technology to reach out to a reliable (可靠的) friend and invite him or her out for lunch or a coffee.
24.What is the effect of technology in our lives according to the passage
A.We can read electronic books.
B.We can solve our problems on the Internet.
C.We can buy almost anything we need online.
D.We can make friends with people around the world.
25.If we use technology too much, what will we feel according to Paragraph 4
A.Tired and sleepy. B.Bored and worried.
C.Warm and happy. D.Sad and lonely.
26.What is the writer’s idea of technology
A.It is a kind of tool. B.It is a friend of ours.
C.It is a pair of scissors. D.It is a way of communication.
27.Which word is close to the underlined word “impact”
A.Connect. B.Protect. C.Influence. D.Enter.
28.Which can be a proper title for the text
A.Social Media is Important to Us B.Technology Can be Good and Bad
C.Computers and the Internet Help Us D.People Need to Communicate with Each Other
(2024·河北邯郸·一模)The Spring Festival is a time for children to receive lucky money. Do you think parents should look after their children’s lucky money Here, some middle school students are sharing their ideas.
○ Tian Yun said, “Lucky money should be kept by parents because children generally don’t have much experience with money and are likely to form the habit of splashing out.” She thinks they can’t control themselves when they see things they like. So when they graduate from high school, they can manage their money.
○ In Wang Xin’s opinion, it is too difficult for young children to manage their money wisely as there are so many distractions (干扰) outside. With a lot of money, they may be cheated by bad persons, which will make them get into troubles.
○ However, Hou Yi thinks children should be free to spend their lucky money because it’s a good chance to develop their money management skills. Children will be able to learn how to use their money properly. What parents should do is to guide them correctly.
○ When it comes to Cui Han’s idea, children should be trusted to manage their money. According to the latest Civil Code(《民法典》), 8 years old is a dividing line. That means children over 8 have the right to deal with their own money. They won’t depend on their parents too much.

Confucianism (儒家思想) has been followed by Chinese people for more than two thousand years.
To help people understand how to behave towards others, Confucianism teaches the Five Constants (五常). These are ren, yi, li, zhi and xin. They are general virtues (美德) around the world. The most important two are ren and li.
Ren is the feeling of care and love we should have for others. Confucius explained ren could best be understood as loving others. He is famous for teaching people “What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others”. It is quite similar to what is known in the West as the Golden Rule (treat others as you wish to be treated).
While the meaning of ren is easy to understand, li is a little harder to express. It can be thought of as duty or even respect. Generally, li is the way we should connect with people in our everyday life. In Confucian writings, discussions about li include the proper way to drink tea and how to remember ancestors (祖先). While ren is mostly about our opinions and feelings, li is about how we express our opinions and feelings towards others and towards the world around us.
Perhaps the most well-known Confucian virtue is xiao. This is the duty children have to their parents. Xiao means loving, respecting, obeying and taking care of one’s parents in their old age. In Confucianism, xiao is important for a harmonious (和谐的) society: Without it, the whole world would fall into a mess.

(2024·河北邯郸·一模)Do you know that some people don’t do their reading tasks It’s shocking, but it is true. Some students don’t even read short texts that they are given in class. There are many reasons for this. They may be bored. They may be unwilling to focus. They may be unconfident readers. Whatever the reason, it has to stop today. Here’s why.

You will be able to speak, write, and think more intelligently (智慧地). It opens your mind. What’s boring about that
Reading helps you become open to new ideas and perspectives (视角). Reading can change the way that you understand the world. It can give you a wider perspective on things. You can learn how people live in faraway places. You can learn about cultures different from your own. It can make your mind more knowledgeable.
Reading is good for your state of mind. Reading can lower your stress levels and help you relax. You can get away from your troubles for a moment when you read. So next time you get a reading task, take as much as you can from it. Squeeze (挤压) it for every drop of knowledge that it has.

(2024·河北邯郸·一模)Have you ever thought about what’s more important, looking fashionable or feeling comfortable No matter what you choose, don’t forget being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy.
Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets that are not good for their health. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy way to live
Also, many girls wear shoes with very high heels. They might think high heels make them look taller. But these shoes can actually hurt their feet, make it hard to walk comfortably and increase risks of falls. Some even wear tight (紧的) clothes that influence blood circulation (循环), making it hard to breathe. Should we put fashion over comfort and physical health
Besides, some boys and girls spend a lot of time and money changing their hair color. The material they use is usually harmful to their health. To make their hair straight or curly, they also use tools that are hot enough to
burn their hair. But using these tools too often or at very high temperatures can make the hair dry or even burnt. Is it really worth it to risk our health, spending so much time and money
So, let’s rethink what’s really important. Is it fashion or is it our well-being Clothes or hairstyles don’t tell us anything about a person’s character. Instead of spending a lot of time choosing clothes, we could use that time to do fun things with friends. And instead of following extreme diets, let’s eat properly and exercise regularly. (2024·河北石家庄·一模)To have a good conversation is a pleasure for most people. But not every conversation is good. Some conversations are one-sided. One person asks all the questions, and the other just gives one-word answers. A good conversation needs two or more people to keep it going.
Start a conversation
Ask something about the other person. “Tell me about yourself.” is a good start. Most people love a chance to talk about themselves. As the other person begins to talk, look for common ground. If you ask someone about his weekend, he could talk about what he did. Then you can share what you did.
Continue a conversation
When the other person is talking, listen carefully. It is not polite to cut in to add your experience. When they finish, ask some more questions. Don’t look around when they talk. That will make others uncomfortable. Besides, if you’re answering a question, don’t go on and on. Give an answer and stop. Also, avoid yes/no questions. They can stop a conversation. Instead, ask open-ended questions using what or why.
End a conversation
A conversation should end well, too. You could say, “I need to run now.”, showing that you have to leave. You may also give a reason. For example, “I really need to go. My class will start in 20 minutes.” Ending a conversation with a clear explanation makes both you and the other person feel good.
Now, go out and enjoy a good conversation!

(2024·河北石家庄·一模)Perseverance (毅力) is very important in all areas of life. It means not giving up, even when facing challenges (挑战) along the way. The power of perseverance lies in its ability to turn dreams into
reality and shape our future.
When we set goals (目标), challenges are unavoidable. Perseverance allows us to deal with these hurdles rather than giving up. It helps us to learn from failures and use these lessons to improve our plans. This cycle of trying and improving can help us make great achievements.
Moreover, perseverance helps us grow personally. By sticking to our goals through good and bad times, we develop strength and decision. These not only help us reach our present goals but also prepare us to face challenges bravely in the future.
The value of perseverance is also seen in group efforts (努力). Teams that show perseverance are more likely to go through hard times together and become stronger. Members will encourage each other to keep going. And of course they will realize goals that once seemed out of reach.
Perseverance is about more than just reaching our goals. It’s about shaping ourselves. It shows us that success depends not only on talent or luck but also on the continuous effort and hard work. (2024·河北邯郸·一模)There are some traditional art forms in China. Paper cutting is one of them.
Traditional paper cuttings were first put on windows for decoration. This is why they’re also called “window flowers”. Today, people use paper cuttings to decorate not only windows, but also doors, walls and other objects at home. The paper cuttings themselves can also be given as gifts.

What You Need:
Two thermometers
A notebook
A pencil or pen
A clear bottle
A watch or clock
A sunny area
What You Do:
1. Put the thermometers in direct sunlight. Let them sit in the sun for three minutes.
2. Draw two columns (栏), “Thermometer A” and “Thermometer B”, in the notebook.

(2024·河北邯郸·一模)When we watch sports games, we often notice sportsmen wearing earphones before the game. They keep their eyes shut, and nod along with the music. It seems the music is giving them power and cheering them up for the game. But is there any science behind such practices
According to a new research, it turns out there is. Music makes us feel powerful, but not all songs have the same effect (效果).
The research was led by an American researcher named Dennis. His team had people listen to 31 songs of different types. The listeners felt powerful after listening to some songs, for example, Queen’s We Will Rock You.
Researchers also found that high-power music made people want to take control in social events and come first in competition.
Great sportsmen know this idea well. NBA player Kobe Bryant, for example, often puts on big headphones and even falls into deep thought to boost his game and have fewer worries.
Why does music have magical power Dennis’s team explained: when people hear music that expresses a sense of power, they mimic (模拟) these feelings in their mind.
When choosing music, we also need to look at the type of music, according to researchers.
In the research by the Music in Exercise and Sport Group at Brunel University in London, they found that pop was perfect for slower tasks. If you’re warming up or cooling down after exercise, pop songs are the correct choice. Dance music was found to be best suitable for strength and weight training.

(2024·河北·一模)Most children are taught the virtue (美德) of honesty from stories. The well-known story of Pinocchio teaches the importance of telling the truth. Every time Pinocchio lies, his nose grows longer and longer. Another story is about the boy who “cried wolf”. While it is true that everyone does something wrong from time to time, some people do not have the courage to admit (承认) their mistakes because they are afraid they will be punished. For example, students might lie to their teachers about unfinished homework. They might say that they left the homework at home, in fact, they did not do the homework at all. These students do not want to get in trouble, so they make up a pretense—a lie—to save face.

(2024·河北保定·一模)Tomatoes are red, the sky is blue, and bananas are yellow, right Well, not exactly—color does not really exist (存在).
If the person moves to
a dark blue background, the same white shirt might appear closer to a brighter color.
Color is created according to our past experiences, and sometimes there are optical illusions (视错觉). That is because your brain includes the recent history of what you saw, at least for a brief time.
114.What is real according to the writer
A.Color. B.Meaning. C.Mind. D.Light.

(2024·河北廊坊·一模)The World is in Danger
Our world is in danger. We must do something to protect the environment. But what are the main problems we face
The greenhouse effect
The atmosphere (大气层) around the Earth is necessary for all living things. It is like the glass of a greenhouse, letting sunlight in and keeping heat from getting out. Without it, the Earth would be the same as the Moon—cold and lifeless.
When we burn fuels (燃料) such as petrol and coal, we produce a gas called carbon dioxide (CO ). Too much
of this gas pollutes the atmosphere, and causes it to keep in too much heat. As a result of the greenhouse effect, the Earth’s temperature is increasing. This causes sea level to rise, and in the future may cause cities to disappear.
Cutting down forests
Every year, we destroy (破坏) nature by cutting down many forests. This makes the greenhouse effect worse because trees take in CO and produce oxygen (O ). Cutting down trees also destroys the homes of animals that live in forests, and causes the surface of the soil to be easily destroyed by rain. This can result in floods and even more damage (伤害) to the environment.
Bad habits
Many of our habits cause pollution. People often use things once and then throw them away, or leave them on the ground as litter. To protect the environment, we need to take proper action. We should be different from many consumers and become “green consumers”. This means that we should only buy and use products friendly to the environment. We should also recycle as many things as we can. We can reuse things for the same purpose as before, or we can use them for new purposes. Then, we can make a difference.
119.Why is the atmosphere around the Earth necessary for all living things
A.Because the Moon is cold and lifeless.
B.Because it is like a greenhouse.
C.Because it lets sunlight in and keeps heat from getting out.
D.Because with it the Earth is cold and lifeless.
120.Which of the following is not the result of the greenhouse effect

C.To inspire us how to make a difference.
D.To encourage us to live in new and different ways in the future.
(2024·河北廊坊·一模)Whether studying for exams, working on a project or writing a paper, we’ve all been under great pressure at some point. When it gets a bit strong, we can reach a high level of tiredness — the terrible burnout (过度疲劳) .
However, that feeling of tiredness is not just physical. It can be mental (心理的) as well. According to Psychology (心理学), today, burnout isn’t just caused by working long hours; it is more about being under great pressure for a long time. The result can be feelings of anger, sadness and tiredness. It can even kill our creativity and reduce our productivity.
But what can we do to avoid the bad influence of burnout Well, there is some ad vice that may help you. Psychologist Albert Bandura thinks that you should believe in your ability to complete a task at hand. The feeling that you are able to succeed means that a difficult task might be less difficult and tiring.
