Keeping pet dogs is a good idea, says Emma
Keeping pet dogs is a good idea. There are lots of reasons for this.
First, dogs are really cute. It’s nice to hold them in our arms, and it’s wonderful to see them grow up.

Keeping pet dogs is not a good idea, says Matt
It’s not a good idea to keep pet dogs.
Pet dogs leave their hair on the floor, on beds and on sofas, and they need to be washed often.
Dogs are noisy. Nearly all dogs bark at strangers. Some dogs bark more loudly than others. A few dogs bark all night. This stops people from getting any sleep. Not all dogs are friendly. A small number of pet dogs even attack people.
What’s more, it’s common for people to live in flats. They have no choice but to keep their dogs in small spaces. However, dogs need fresh air and large open spaces where they can run free. Finally. Owning dogs can be expensive.
So keeping pet dogs is not a good idea.

Simon, a 6-year-old black cat, loves doing outdoor activities, such as mountain climbing, biking and even skiing. When he does these activities all over the world, his human friend Yosh, an adventurer (冒险家) is always by his side.

Most people agree that a pet brings more happiness to a person’s life. Scientists are now finding that having a pet may keep its owner healthy. And good health may let a person live longer.
Scientists have been studying the connection between pets and health for years. A study was done with people aged 65 and the older in 1990. It shows that pet owners go to the doctor less than people without pets. Do pets make people happier Do they help people live on their own longer If the answer these questions is yes, then having pets may be a good idea.
Can pets really help people live longer Rebecca Johnson did a survey to find out the answer. Johnson taught nurses how to care for the older people. She shared the findings of her study at a meeting about pets and the aging. Her study shows that having pets may cause people to age more slowly.
The human body makes many chemicals (化学物质). Some of the chemicals make people feel good. Others make people feel bad. In Johnson’s study, levels of the good chemicals will rise when people are around pets. Levels of the “bad” chemicals goes down. The good chemicals seem to slow the aging of cells (细胞). If this is true, maybe people should spend more time with their pets. Then the levels of good chemicals will go up. People might feel better and age more slowly.

Weedon’s father Judge Scott came up. White Fang stood before him, growling fiercely. “Go away! Lie down!” Judge Scott shouted angrily at White Fang.

Many years ago, in a small Indian village, a farmer owed (欠) a lot of money to a village moneylender. The moneylender looked old and ugly, but he liked the farmer’s beautiful daughter. So he said that the farmer didn’t need to pay off the debt (债务) if he could marry (受) the farmer’s daughter.
Both the farmer and his daughter wouldn’t do that, but they were afraid of the moneylender. So he suggested that they let God decide the matter. He told them that he would put a black pebble (鹅卵石) and a white pebble into an empty bag. Then the girl would have to pick one pebble from the bag.
If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father’s debt would be forgiven (免除). If she picked the white pebble, she didn’t need to marry him and her father’s debt would still be forgiven. But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into prison.
They were standing on a pebble—strewn path in the farmer’s field. As they talked, the moneylender picked up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp—eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the girl to pick a pebble from the bag.
The girl put her hand into the bag and drew out a pebble. Without looking at it she let it fall onto the path which was full of pebbles. So it immediately became lost among all the other pebbles.
“Oh, how clumsy (笨拙的) of me!” she said. “But never mind. If you look into the bag for the one left inside, you will be able to tell which pebble I picked.”

Dear Anna,
Long time no see! Where did you go on vacation This summer vacation, Jamie and I did something different. We didn’t play football or computer games. In July, we went to the poor (贫穷的) village of Ciceu and stayed there for seven days.
I took some English books, pens and toys(玩具) to give the poor children there. When we arrived there on Sunday, there were about 200 children waiting for us. We played games with them, and we had fun.
Jamie took twelve computers from his school. Although these computers were not very new, Jamie’s school decided to give them to the poor village school. In Ciceu, there were only two computers for over 300 children. During those days, I taught the children English and they seemed to have a lot of fun. Jamie taught the children how to use these computers and went out to help feed the pigs and hens. We enjoyed our vacation there. We want to go there again next summer vacation.
Yours,
Tina
