Paragraph1:
Right then, Henry sensed my embarrassment. He immediately came to my aid.He pulled up my skirt and skillfully tied the drawstring with a beautiful knot.Seeing what Henry did for me, something deep in my mind began to change. It seemed as if my cold heart began to melt slowly and my annoyance at him gradually gave way to guilt. I regretted having treated him as a stranger. While my mind was wandering, our performance time came.It turned out a great success, thunderous applause filling the whole theatre.
Paragraph2:
After the performance, I found Henry and tapped him on the arm gratefully.“Thanks,”I said with a grateful smile on my face.I had to admit that but for his timely help, I would have been extremely embarrassed.Without his knotting skill, the performance would have been quite different. “KNOT a problem. You are my sister,”he grinned innocently, saying humorously. Surrounded by the cheerful atmosphere, I felt a flood of warmth of a big family. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have a new person in my corner of the world after all.2023--2024学年高二第二学期中段考试

I love travelling, but it hasn’t always been my passion. In my first year of university, I started to travel during the holiday. During the Christmas holiday I went to Paris, and during the spring vacation, I visited Athens and various cities in Italy. I was very excited because this was the first time I had travelled abroad with just my friends. This desire to travel started off simply as a way to have something to look forward to after exams, but I soon discovered how important it is to travel.
On my travels I have had the opportunity to not only experience new and exciting cultures through the art, history, language and food, but also communicate with people who have different views on life. Travelling is a learning experience for both yourself and the people you meet. Some people I met during my travels had never heard of Gambia and it was very delightful to share my African roots with them. When you travel, you will meet people who have different cultural backgrounds and as a result, sometimes your own ideas and opinions might be challenged. It’s important to learn to see things from other people’s perspectives (观点) and to challenge your own.
This is how I realized that travelling is the realization of home. When you travel you are exposed to a different setting, a different language and a different way of living. All these factors, mixed with a new and exciting adventure, make you realize your own home. Not just the physical location of home, but also your way of life and your outlook.
Travelling is truly an enriching experience and I am always excited about the discoveries that wait for me in my next adventure!

D. The author knows nothing about African history.
7. What will the author do in the future

With the ever-increasing popularity of online shopping, users’ reviews(评论) are becoming more and more important. Given that you can't actually touch, see, smell or hear the product you’re buying online, these reviews will provide you with valuable information on the product itself. But how far can you trust them
Barnaby Bicken had an unpleasant experience. “I took some friends to a restaurant in Manchester that had excellent reviews on a food website. However, the service was awful and we were ignored most of the time. Later, I wrote a review on the same site only to be told that the review site owner would not accept any bad reviews—only the good ones.”
So, how can you get a useful review Web expert Hilary Saunders has a few top tips. “If there are only a few reviews of a place, there is a good chance they have been planted by friends or enemies. If there are many reviews, start by dropping the most extreme comments. Also, watch out for similarities in style between reviews from people with different user names, particularly if those reviews were placed about the same time. The best thing is to look for reviewers who show some relevant knowledge of the product they are reviewing.”
Some companies seem to be contributing to the problem. A publishing house offered gift vouchers(购物礼券) to anyone who would give their textbook a five-star review. But not all online companies operate like this. “Amazon works hard to keep the completeness of its customer reviews,” said a spokesperson for the company. “We have very clear guidelines, and when a customer reports a review that he feels is inappropriate, we check, and may take it down.”
So, next time you see that five-star review for something you want to buy, be aware—it could be the work of a false reviewer!
What does “them” in Para.1 refer to
Products. B. Users. C. Reviews. D. Buyers.
What does Barnaby Bicken’s story imply
A. The food served was awful.
B. Not all reviews are believable.
C. Many people are easily cheated.
D. He likes to write bad reviews.
10. What reviews of products are useful according to Hilary Saunders
A. Those by competitors.
B. Those by different users.
C. Those with good comments.
D. Those with related information.
11. How does Amazon deal with the customer reviews
A. It helps to finish the reviews.
B. It pays attention to the bad reviews.
C. It offers gifts for the good reviews.
D. It tries to make the reviews objective.

I was in my room, unwilling to head to the community theatre with“my brother”Henry. He was just adopted by my parents recently. I was not in the mood for being onstage(台上演出的) with him.
“Kirstie, come here,"my mom called.Following her voice, I found her outside the bathroom, holding a wet book. She gave the book a shake."Henry's book was in the bathtub. Did you put it there ”She glared at me, something she never did before Henry came to our home. I did not wet his book on purpose. Tears of hurt clouded my eyes.Worse still, she promised to buy him a new copy. My heart ached. Henry was stealing my mother's love. He was ruining my life.
Meanwhile, Henry was just nearby, absorbed in working on a complicated rope knot(绳结)as usual. Why did a boy like him do the girly work Far from manly!
Soon, it was time to have to set off to the community theatre. As Henry walked ahead of us to the car, my mom took me aside and said in a low voice,"It's the first time for Henry to be onstage. Be kind to him, Honey.”I nodded but sighed. Being kind didn't use to be hard. But after Henry moved in, everything felt different. The theatre used to be a special place for my parents and me. With Henry involved, it didn't seem so special any more.
Finally, it was our stage time. My heart beat wildly. I forgot my annoyance at Henry for a while. As we kids lined up, ready to act out our short play, I realized how loosely I had tied the drawstring (束带)on my skirt . Sure enough, my skirt began to drop .Laughter from the audience could be heard, and even though I was wearing shorts under my skirt, I could feel my face burst into flames(面红).
However, my hands were full. If only someone could help me out!
