参考范文 :
Until the competition day, I practised my speech whenever possible. I rehearsed in front of my family, and my mother always gave me the most encouraging feedback. Her belief in me pushed me to do my best. Then came the big day. As i stood confidently on the stage and presented attentively. I could sense they were genuinely impressed. The moment my speech ended, the room erupted into applause. I couldn’t believe it; the whole school was clapping for me! Maybe my mom was right--- showcasing my abilities brought me closer to my classmates.
As I went off the stage, I heard someone call my name. Turning around, I found Fatin, the girl I admired, waving to me. She approached me and said in a cheerful voice, “Hey, Sneha!” Your speech is amazing!” I was speechless for a moment, but then i managed to stammer a “Thank you.” Fatin’s compliment meant the world to me. From that day on, she and I became friends. Our shared interests and passions brought us even closer together, and I found myself surrounded by a group of friends who appreciated me for who I was.

尾句:衔接原文中的“in desperate need of close friends” 和“see your excellence”: 收获Fatin 的友谊,还有几个欣赏“我”的好朋友。

(Text 10)
M: The summer vacation in New Delhi begins in May 1st every year. Much before it began we started planning how to spend it. I suggested that we should go to Shillong. But my sister insisted that we see Darjeeling. My father decided that we would go to both places with one month’s stay at each place.
So, it was decided that we would be going first to Shillong and then to Darjeeling. We left the New Delhi Railway Station four days after the vacation began. It was a very long and tiring journey. The train reached Guwahati in the evening.
The next day, early in the morning we drove to Shillong. We stayed there for nearly a month in the hotel. The climate was no doubt cool and pleasant, but there were very few places of interest.
We left Shillong on June 4th. On our way to Darjeeling, we traveled by train. We saw thick forests and beautiful tea gardens. We reached Darjeeling at about noon. We took a taxi and went to a hotel where reservations had been earlier arranged by my father. One day we went to the Tiger Hills by taxi at 4 a.m. to enjoy the famous sunrise. It was a wonderful sight which we had never seen before. And that was the last day of our vacation.

If you are crazy about paintings, you shouldn’t miss the following four famous masterpieces which have stood the test of time.
The Arnolfini Portrait
Jan van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, an oil painting on wood produced in 1434, in which a man and a woman hold hands with a window behind him and a bed behind her, is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces in the National Gallery, London. This painting is as visually interesting as it is famed. It is also an informative document in fifteenth-century society, through Van Eyck’s heavy use of symbolism—while husbands went out to engage in business, wives concerned themselves with domestic duties.
The Starry Night
Vincent van Gogh painted The Starry Night, oil on canvas, a moderately abstract landscape painting of an expressive night sky over a small hillside village, during his 12-month stay at the mental hospital near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France between 1889 and 1890. When the Museum of Modern Art in New York City purchased the painting from a private collector in 1941, it was not well known, but it has since become one of Van Gogh’s most famous works.
The Harvesters
The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565. It depicts the harvest time which most commonly occurs within the months of August and September. Nicolaes Jonghelinck, a merchant banker and art collector from Antwerp, commissioned this painting. The painting has been at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City since 1919.
Guernica
Guernica, a large black-and-white oil painting, was painted by the Cubist Spanish painter, Pablo Picasso in 1937. The title “Guernica” refers to the city that was bombed by Nazi planes during the Spanish Civil War. The painting depicts the horrors of war and as a result, has come to be an anti-war symbol and a reminder of the tragedies of war. Today, the painting is housed at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofaí in Madrid.

B
I recently attended a wedding in a rural area in north Italy, and guests were provided with a car and driver for the 90-minute journey into the hills. That was exciting: A private car! I could pretend I was rich! Since I’m not, though, I had no idea how much this trip actually cost. As a result, after our driver picked us back up at midnight, I secretly worried all the way home about tipping him.
I fished around nervously in my purse and realized that all I had was a $100 note, which I was keeping for an emergency. I had nothing smaller. And I had nothing else to offer but two chocolates from the wedding. So, I could tip the driver that $100 note or two chocolates. In the end, I chose the money.
The whole matter of tipping has long been a source of awkward interactions — and, for some travellers, mild anxiety — throughout the world. Tipping customs vary wildly from country to country. A friend in Rome tells me that Italians get hurt by big tips. “Leaving a big tip is considered impolite,” she adds, “I’ve had Italian friends make me take money back.”
It reminded me of my 100-dollar tip. What if I had annoyed the driver So I decided to call the car company and ask them to pass on a message to the driver apologizing for the improper tip and explaining the situation.
To my surprise, the car company responded that the driver had actually called to express his gratitude for the unexpected big tip. He had apparently been having a tough week and the money had come at just the right time.
I was astonished. All my worry had been for nothing. What started out as a source of anxiety ended up being a heartwarming experience. I learned that sometimes it’s better to go with your feelings and be generous, even if it means taking a risk.
24.What did the author realize when she dug around in her purse
A.She had spent 100 dollars on emergency.
B.She had to ask the driver for smaller changes.
C.She had nothing but two chocolates to offer the driver.
D.She had no smaller notes and might tip too high or too low.
25.Why did the author mention the tipping in Italy
A.To compare different tipping customs.
B.To share a personal story of her friend.
C.To show the possibility of upsetting the driver.
D.To demonstrate her rich knowledge on tipping.
26.What was the driver’s response to the tipping
A.He was annoyed by the large tip.
B.He appreciated the author’s generosity.
C.He was grateful and refused the money.
D.He was upset by the awkward interaction.
27.What can we conclude from the passage
A.Good things are possible when you follow your heart.
B.You’d better think carefully before taking action.
C.When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
D.A penny saved is a penny earned.

Diet containing lots of salt can contribute to increased levels of stress, a new study shows. Scientists found in studies of mice that a high-salt diet increased the levels of a stress hormone by 75 per cent. Experts hope the findings will encourage a review of public health policy around salt consumption, aiming at manufacturers reducing the amount of salt in processed food.
The recommended salt intake for adults is less than six grams a day but most people regularly eat about nine grams. This can contribute to higher blood pressure, which increases the risks of heart attacks, strokes and dementia.
While effects on the heart and circulatory(循环) system have been ascertained, little was known about the impact of a high-salt diet on a person’s behaviour. To study this, experts from the University of Edinburgh used mice, who ordinarily have a low-salt diet, and gave them high-salt food to reflect the typical intake of humans.
They found that not only did resting stress hormone levels increase, but the mice’s hormone response to environmental stress was double that of mice that had a normal diet. Salt intake increased the activity of genes that produce the proteins in the brain which control how the body responds to stress.
Experts say further studies are already underway to understand if a high-salt intake leads to other behavioral changes such as anxiety and aggression. Matthew Bailey, professor of Renal Physiology at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Cardiovascular Science, said: “We are what we eat and understanding how high-salt food changes our mental health is an important step to improving well being. We know that eating too much salt damages our heart, blood vessels(血管) and kidneys. This study now tells us that high salt in our food also changes the way our brain handles stress.”
28.What are the findings expected to bring about eventually
A.Manufacturers adding less salt to processed food.
B.People debating the policy on public health.
C.Decreased levels of stress hormones.
D.Reduced amount of processed food.
29.What does the underlined word “ascertained” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Ignored. B.Restored. C.Reduced. D.Confirmed.
30.Which of the following may be a subject of further research
A.What policy on salt should be.
B.How a high-salt intake affects blood pressure.
C.How much salt intake is appropriate.
D.Whether a high-salt intake causes anxiety.
31.What may be a suitable little for the text
A.Most people regularly take in too much salt.
B.Mental health is important to improving well being.
C.Diet containing much salt increases levels of stress.
D.Less than six grams of salt a day is recommended.
D
Recently, I accidentally found a set of Hanfu l only wore once from the bottom of the cupboard. I remember buying them simply to match the ancient-style hair accessories (配饰) a friend gave me. It occurred to me that I had been trapped in the “birdcage effect”.
“Birdcage effect” means that when you get an item one day, you will prepare more things to match it. Weeks ago, I was in the company of friends engaged in shopping. One said that she wanted to buy a good writing pen to match the delicate notebook that her sister gave her, so that she would fall in love with taking notes on reading, and thus love reading, not just reading. I joked that she must have fallen for the “birdcage effect”. But the friend said with a smile: “Why not use the ‘birdcage effect’ instead ”
For the first time, I heard that the “birdcage effect” can be used in reverse (逆向). However, this can’t help but remind me of middle school, and I seem to have used the “birdcage effect”. Passing by a bookstore one day, I purchased a magazine and saw the call for contributions published in the magazine, so I started writing with eager hands, and then I fell in love with writing.
After shopping with my friends that time, I began to proceed to use the “birdcage effect”. I bought a small fresh tablecloth to decorate my desk, and a beautiful notebook to record my inspiration. When everything was ready, I started writing again.
But how can we get rid of the “birdcage effect” in many things, and even use the “birdcage effect” in the opposite way Various “birdcages” unavoidably appear in life, but we can distinguish them. If it is not in line with the actual situation, it is a “negative birdcage”, then we must learn to stop losses in time and maintain a heart of abandonment and separation. If it is a “positive birdcage” that motivates us to develop upward, we can clarify our goals, shop or decorate appropriately, and motivate ourselves to move towards our goals. At this time, you will find that the “birdcage effect” is actually not so terrible!
32.What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A.The application of the “birdcage effect” in life.
B.The necessity of using the “birdcage effect” in life.
C.The turning point of the author’s idea on the “birdcage effect”.
D.The author’s conflict with her friend over the “birdcage effect”.
33.What is the author’s purpose in mentioning her middle school experience
A.To recall her delightful days at school.
B.To explain the reason for her love with writing.
C.To confirm the positive of the “birdcage effect”.
D.To prove her knowledge of the “birdcage effect”.
34.How can we make use of the “birdcage effect” positively
A.By realizing this effect has two sides.
B.By promoting our personal consumption.
C.By recognizing this effect is not so terrible.
D.By guiding our acts to go with reasonable goals.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Getting Rid of the Birdcage Effect Confidently
B.Motivating Ourselves to Move Towards Our Goals
C.The Birdcage Effect: Influence on Consumer Behavior

With new faces everywhere, the time in Grade 1 was really tough for me. Since I was an Indian girl, nobody wanted to talk to me. Every spare minute was spent alone, and no classmates would group with me for projects.
Feeling lonely and sad, I was in desperate need of close friends, with whom I hoped to share my happiness and sorrow. A girl named Fatin, who was cute, clever and talented, appealed to me deeply. However, she seemed to be avoiding me as well. Being only six years old, I didn’t understand why people treated me like that. I opened up to my mother about all this, almost crying my eyes out.
Mum smiled, patting me on the shoulder and comforting me until I calmed down. She looked into my eyes and encouraged me, “Honey, don’t worry. They’re just not familiar with you. Try to bring out the best in you. They’ll befriend you as long as they see your excellence.” At that time, I didn’t believe her, but Mom was right.
One day, my teacher, Miss Bibiena, announced that there was to be a speech competition. My heart pounded wildly. I really enjoyed participating in speech competitions. Actually, I was quite good at them. The only problem was that the whole school would be watching me and I knew none of my audience.
However, I was determined to do it. I gathered all my courage, marched up to the teacher and said, “Miss Bibiena, I want to join in the speech competition.” She stared. I started to feel uncomfortable, but then a gentle smile spread over her face. She handed me an application form.
The next day, I submitted(提交) my form to Miss Bibiena. Taking the form, she said encouragingly to me, “For a new student, you are courageous. Do your best, Sneha!” Rarely did Miss Bibiena praise anyone. On my way to class, I smiled at her remark, which lifted up my spirits that day.
