第一节(满分 15 分)
Dear David.
I'm thrilled to tell you that I won first prize in our school's “Capture Spring on Campus” photography competition, whose aim was to motivate students to appreciate the beauty of nature and capture unforgettable moments of spring on campus.
My winning photo was taken in front of the library, where a cherry blossom tree was blooming. Pink petals were falling gently onto the ground while students sat on the grass reading or chatting. Not only did the winning boost my confidence in pursuing photography as a hobby, but it also inspired me to embrace the hidden beauty in school.
What about the spring on your campus Looking forward to your reply. (111 words)
Best regards. Li Hua
第二节(满分 25 分)
I walked out of my room. Not surprisingly, they were both covered in mud. It was evident that Max had led my mother on another wild chase through the forest. My frustration melted away as I saw my mother's apologetic expression. “Sweet heart,” my mom said softly, “I'm sorry for scolding you earlier." After a quick shower, she then shared her own adventure with Max and how he also managed to escape from her grasp when I served her a warm cup of tea. It seemed we were both at our wits’ end with this dog. (89 words)
Dad stepped in, suggesting that we work together to train Max. We spent the next few days teaching Max basic commands like “sit”, “stay”, and “come back”, It wasn’t easy, but gradually, Max started responding better to us. The instant we tried to stop him pulling, he sat down with eyes looking intently at us. In the process, not only did Max become more obedient, but our family also grew closer. We realized that every member of our team played an important role, and we needed to support each other to ensure everything ran smoothly. (84 words)

My parents had purchased an Island Packet 445 ten months prior, and the day to board this boat had finally come. I was 1l years old and knew absolutely nothing about this cruising (海上航游) lifestyle my father had been speaking so highly of for the previous five years. The only thing I knew for sure was that I didn't want to leave my home. My father was excited, my mother nervous, my brother disinterested, and I sullen. I was not at all eager about this change in my lifestyle.
The first three months on the boat had not been very easy. What my dad called an adjustment period I called a nightmare. But, after three months of traveling, we had a lucky break. In La Paz, there was another cruising boat with a 13-year-old boy aboard. Two weeks later, Glen and I could be seen endlessly boogie boarding (趴板冲浪) the crashing waves to the beach. After meeting Glen, cruising for me began to get better and better. At some point during these months, I decided to give this cruising idea a chance.
One year later, we continued touring through the South Pacific. I was learning new skills and learning how to work independently. I often took a five-hour watch during the dark hours of long passages. This was quite a bit of responsibility to hand over to a 13-year-old, especially considering I was in charge of adjusting sails as the conditions changed, and keeping an eye and ear out for any problems. Almost everybody in the cruising community treated me as an adult while still understanding I was a child, thereby giving me the flexibility to make childish mistakes.
As of this writing, my family has now been aboard for three years. We have plans to return to Canada in 12 months and, similar to how I opposed moving onto the boat, I am now completely opposed to moving off it. I have so much fun and learn so many things on this boat that I can't imagine ever returning “home”, a place I hardly even remember.
24. What does the underlined word “'sullen” in the first paragraph probably mean
A. Upset. B. Calm. C. Confused D. Astonished
25. What made the author start to embrace the cruising idea
A. Overcoming the fear of nightmares. B. Having fun with someone of his age.
C. Learning how to work independently. D. Making a breakthrough in boarding skills.
26.Which of the following words can best describe the author
A. Stubborn but reliable. B. Childish but adaptable. C. Inconsiderate but flexible. D. Dependent but responsible
27. What can be the best title for the text
A. Benefits of the Cruising Lifestyle B. First Day aboard Island Packet 445
C. What Motivates a Teenager to Change His Lifestyle D. How a Young Sailor Learns to Love the Cruising Life

A new study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health finds air pollution may negatively impact standardized test scores. Using data from the North Carolina Education Research Data Center, the researchers tracked 2.8 million public school students in North Carolina from 2001 to 2018 and measured their exposure to PM2.5found in polluted air. While previous research has shown negative effects on academic performance, it has relied on relatively small or less representative samples. “The biggest strength of this study is that we tracked every student in North Carolina in those years, for the whole time period that they were in the public schools,” said Emma Zang, coauthor of the study.
The study also finds that test scores of ethnicm1norit1esand girls are disproportionately(不成比例地)impacted by PM2.5 levels. “Females and ethnic minorities face sexism and racism,” said Zang. “There are a lot of policies that are not friendly towards them. So, when they're exposed to the same level of air pollution, they don't have the resources to lessen the negative influences." More privileged populations however, might have more resources that allow them to live in a better environment, such as in houses with air purifiers.
“The level of PM2.5 pollution in the US is relatively low, but students living in areas below the current air quality standard of annual PM2.5 concentration are still negatively impacted by air pollution when it comes to their test scores,” said Zang. “We should aim to strengthen the annual PM2.5 standard to better protect our children.”
Air pollution is known to contribute to disease and death, and it also negatively affects students’ academic performance even at low levels of pollution. The subsequent studies, the researchers said, would involve looking at whether the findings hold true indifferent areas, and also the reasons behind the ethnic and sexual differences.28. What's the greatest advantage of the study
A. Tracking each student for 18 years. B. Collecting more comprehensive data.
C. Measuring students’PM2.5 exposure precisely. D. Building links between air pollution and test scores.
29.According to Zang, ethnic minorities and girls
A. benefit from current policies on PM2.5 pollution B. have the lowest test scores due to their identities
C. lack resources to reduce the impact of air pollution D. suffer from educational inequalities owing to their background
30. What's Zang doing in paragraph 3
A. Offering a suggestion B. Raising a doubt. C. Making a comparison D. Giving a prediction.
31. What might be the focus of the follow-up studies
A. Applicability of the findings to other regions. B. Ways to address racial and sexual differences.
C. Long-term impacts of air pollution on children. D. Establishment of PM2.5 standard fit for children.
D
French schools once prized the nutritional value of wine. So commonly was it served to children that in 1956 the government banned wine in school canteens and even then, only for the under-14s. France was the world's biggest wine producer last year. A bottle of wine has long been to the French meal what fast driving is to the German motorway: an ordinary habit, national right and personal pleasure.
No longer. In 2022 roughly 10% of French people drank wine every day, down from half in 1980. Back in 1960 the French drank an average of 116 liters of everyday wine per person. Between 2000 and 2018 that shrank from 28 liters to just 17. A glass of wine is an increasingly rare sight at the lunch table.
What is going on It is not simply price. A bottle of Bordeaux can still be found in a French supermarket for under ?3. Some village co-operatives sell local produce straight from the vat for ?1.90 a liter less than fresh orange juice. A better explanation is that a beer-drinking trend is challenging Mediterranean habits. The French now tell polls that they prefer beer to wine. Beer accounts for more than half of all alcohol bought in French supermarkets. Even in southern France, some cafes serve imported Belgian or German beer on tap.
Most important, a health-conscious younger generation is drinking less. A quarter of French 18- to 34-year-olds say they never drink alcohol. Fully 39% of under-35s say that they do not drink wine, next to only 27% of the over-50s. Le dry January has entered the national vocabulary. No- and low-alcohol drinks are spreading. A younger generation is rejecting old Mediterranean habits. In an attempt to “'speak to Generation Z by adopting its codes”, Pernod Ricard, a drinks giant, runs a marketing campaign with the slogan “Drink more...water!”
Of course, consumption of high-quality wine remains strong. But the decline of cheaper stuff has wider consequences for France. Last summer the government allowede200m to buy surplus low-end wine that producers could not sell, In some areas, farmers are tearing off lesser vines (葡萄藤) altogether. Less alcohol may improve health, but not necessarily the mood or landscapes of rural France.
32.What can we learn from the first paragraph
A. Serving wine to French children has been banned B. Drinking wine is as dangerous a habit as fast driving.
C. Wine consumption has long been a practice in France. D. Nutritional value of wine is widely recognized in France.
33. What's the major reason for the French people drinking less wine
A. Health concern. B. Challenge from beer. C. Economic decline. D. Shortage of wine supply.
34. What does the underlined part “Le dry January" in paragraph 4 probably refer to
A.A season of poor grape harvest. B. A period when the weather is dry.
C. An organization advocating drinking water. D. A campaign calling for less wine consumption.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Consumption of low-quality wine remains unchanged.
B. Production of high-end wine is lower than that of low-end wine.
C. Farmers who produce more wine are awarded by the government.
D. Not all French people benefit from the decline of wine consumption

Helena Blumen, a cognitive(认知的) scientist, says the complicated mental multi-tasking that dancing requires engages various parts of the brain at the same time, leading to the strengthening of neural(神经系统的)connections across different regions 36 .“It's socially, cognitively and physically demanding,” she says.
Anyone who's ever felt the irresistible urge to dance to a favorite song knows that combining music and movement can lift your mood and melt away stress. But there's a lot more happening in your brain when you're trying to follow even the easiest choreography(编舞). 37 . Tasks like getting around the kitchen or walking to the bus stop can become more attainable if regarded as choreography.
To learn how the mechanisms of dancing work in the brain, researchers conducted MRI scans on older adults who engaged in either dance or a traditional exercise program over six months. 38 , the dancers grew more white and gray matter in the parts of the brain responsible for cognitive processes.
The researchers assume that these brain changes contribute to more neuro plasticity the brain's ability to form new connections and pathways. 39 . Brain plasticity is similar to the city's ability to build new roads, repair old ones or even change the direction of traffic based on how often the routes are used and what the city needs.
40 . A Finnish study of people with severe brain injuries showed that dance-based recovery might improve mobility, cognition and overall well-being. Additionally, research shows that dancing can reduce the risk of brain-related diseases such as dementia (痴呆).
A. Moreover, dancing can help prevent brain injuries
B. In addition to the physical and neurological benefits
C. The effect extends beyond dancing to the real world
D. While both groups improved their level of physical fitness
E. Dancing might even help people with brain injuries and diseases
F. Imagine your brain is like a city with loads of roads and pathways
G. Basically, dancing requires more brain power than commonly believed

_ 40 Taking action is the most effective method to silence doubt when sensing it.

第二节 (满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was a kid, my parents and I lived near the forest. They often told me that our family was a team that needed to work together for the household to function smoothly. There was always an abundance of work to do cooking, cleaning, and walking dogs. I volunteered to walk our dog, Max, who had been adopted one month before. I never dared let this giant dog off the lead (牵狗绳), just in case he took off.One morning, we were walking along in the forest when Max started pulling on the lead. At first, I was able to hold on despite the wet ground from a recent shower. But the more I tried to stop him pulling, the more it turned into a tug of war. And thanks to the slippery ground, I lost.
Pulling his lead, Max shot off like a bullet, leaving me screaming behind. l chased him but lost my footing and fell face-first into some mud. I stumbled (踉跄) to my feet.but looking ahead, I found him running back towards me. I thought he was going to stop
and give me his “Sorry” look. But instead, the dog shot past me and returned after awhile.
As soon as we got home, my mother immediately attended to Max with a warm towel and a doggy treat. I thought seeing me stumbling and covered in mud, I would also get a warm cup of tea and a motherly kiss. Instead, I got a very loud lecture about letting the dog loose in the forest.I felt frustrated. It wasn't fair that she didn't understand how difficult it was to control Max. I fought back, “'Stop lecturing me! Why is everything my fault ” With these words, I stormed into my bedroom and slammed the door shut.
In the evening, I heard my mother call Max and take him out. It wasn't long before I heard my mother screaming and the door opening again.
