【原文】
W: Planning a schedule that includes time for studies, sports, part-time work and free time can be a challenge. Today we have Dr Tony with us to talk about how to plan a schedule.
M: Well, the good way to start is to make a plan for each day of the week and then try to balance your time so you can include everything. Here are some guidelines that may help you. First, we start with the twenty-four hours we all have in every day. If we take out eight hours for our sleep time, that leaves sixteen hours to divide among the other activities. Attendance at school takes about six hours and homework about two, for a total of eight. That leaves us eight hours for sports, work and free time. Remember, those guidelines are flexible and you must adjust them to your particular needs. Weekends are different since we don’t have to attend school. Here we can usually focus on certain activities such as sports or part-time work and free time. We can see our friends and spend more time with our family. If you make a schedule and try to keep to it, you will soon develop the habit of doing each task during its planned time and will be satisfied that you can comfortably do everything you have to do.

Hody Childress , a farmer from Geraldine, Alabama, lived the last 10 years of his life with a little secret.
In the small town where he lived his entire life, Childress wanted to help his community. He knew there were families in his hometown that were struggling financially. So one day he pulled his local pharmacist (药剂师), Brooke Walker, to the side and asked, “Do you ever meet anybody who can’t pay for their medicine ” “Well, yeah, unfortunately , that happens a good bit,” Walker said. So Childress donated $100 to the local pharmacy for anyone who couldn’t afford to pay for medicine and said to Walker, “Next time that happens, you can use this. Don’t tell them where it came from, and don’t tell me who needed it.”
This act of generosity continued for nearly 10 years, up until his death in January 2023. And his story only came to light at his funeral, when his daughter, Tania Nix, wanted to show what kind of man her father was.
In fact, the 80-year-old only revealed his generosity to his daughter when he was unable to get to the pharmacy himself. He asked his daughter to take a $100 bill to the drugstore on the first day of the month. Nix continued to drop off the money to the pharmacy and didn’t tell anybody about what her dad was doing.
With her brother Doug, Nix shared, “It’s really hard for us to decide whether to allow this story out to the public, but I feel like a small deed (行为) can turn into a big deed—or it can turn into something that gives people hope. If it can encourage anyone to be a better person and want to help others, it’s worth it.”
According to the BBC, since the story was first published by the Washington Post, the pharmacy has received donations from all over the country.

C.She followed her father’s example and also donated money.
D.She hesitated about the decision to spread her father’s secret.
27.What lesson can we conclude from the last two paragraphs

Humans can be poor judges of their own ability. So, you might not be as good, or as bad, as you think you are. Psychologists have found the less expertise you have in something, the more likely you are to overestimate your competence in it. And in a digital era where self-assured social media influencers give you “life tricks”, and face-to-face conversation is more limited, this psychological phenomenon seems important to remember.
This concept is called the Dunning-Kruger effect, named after the psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger. Back in the 90s, they found a correlation between a person’s lack of skills and ability and a lack of awareness of lack of ability. They are ignorant to their own limitations. This plays out in various areas of life, such as in medical diagnosis. For example, Dunning told BBC Radio 4 that, one third of the time, doctors disagree with patients who self-diagnose using internet sources rather than seeing a medical professional. Whether it’s judging jokes, logical reasoning, or grammar, the pattern is the same: the less skilled you are, the more over-confident you are.
On the other side is intellectual humility. This means having a modest or low view of your importance or abilities. Elizabeth J. Krumrei-Mancuso, Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University, found that a higher willingness to ac know edge cognitive limitations, and the ability to embrace diverse perspectives, are connected with a more accurate perception of intelligence.
How can we use this knowledge to help us in everyday life Tenelle Porter, a psychologist at Rowan University, told the BBC that knowing this “opens us up to being intellectually humble, to admitting everything that we don’t yet know”. And current studies suggest that those with higher intellectual humility are more open to negotiating, compromising and exploring information.
So, embrace the unknown and remember: there’s always more to learn.
28.What psychological phenomenon is described at the beginning of the text
A.Those addicted to social media are worse at judging themselves.
B.Those with less expertise are more likely to overvalue themselves.
C.Those with less knowledge are more likely to be influenced by social media.
D.Those accustomed to more face-to-tace conversation tend to be more outgoing.
29.What correlation did Dunning and Kruger find
A.A correlation between a person’s confidence and profession.
B.A correlation between a person’s personality and his limitations.
C.A correlation between a person’s health condition and his diagnosis.
D.A correlation between a person’s competence and his awareness of self ability.
30.What can we learn from intellectual humility
A.It means being sensitive to diverse opinions.
B.It means being humble about self-competence.
C.It means being ready to break self-limitations.
D.It means being confident in accepting different comments.
31.Which of the following statements may Tenelle agree with
A.We should admit others’ virtues.
B.We should ignore our advantages.
C.We should acknowledge our limitations.
D.We should cooperate actively with others.

根据第三段的“On the other side is intellectual humility. This means having a modest or low view of your importance or abilities.(另一方面是智性谦逊。这意味着对自己的重要性或能力持谦虚或轻视的态度。)”可知,智性谦逊意味着对自我能力保持谦逊。故选B。
31.推理判断题。根据第四段“How can we use this knowledge to help us in everyday life Tenelle Porter, a psychologist at Rowan University, told the BBC that knowing this “opens us up to being intellectually humble, to admitting everything that we don’t yet know”. And current studies suggest that those with higher intellectual humility are more open to negotiating, compromising and exploring information.(我们如何利用这些知识在日常生活中帮助我们呢?英国罗文大学的心理学家Tenelle Porter告诉BBC,知道这一点“让我们在智力上变得谦逊,承认我们还不知道的一切”。目前的研究表明,智性谦逊程度较高的人更愿意谈判、妥协和探索信息。) 和最后一段的“ So, embrace the unknown and remember: there’s always more to learn.(所以,
拥抱未知,记住:永远有更多的东西需要学习。)”可知,Tenelle可能同意我们应该承认我们的局限性。故选C。
D
Scientists from Tufts University have developed tiny groups of human cells that can move on their own-and in a lab experiment, these so-called “anthrobots” inspired sheets of human neurons to repair themselves when damaged. The researchers hope the collections of cells could one day be used to treat diseases or aid with healing in humans.
The study comes on the heels of earlier work from one of its authors, who produced tiny robots by stitching together frog embryo cells. These robots, known as “xenobots”, could assemble themselves, move across surfaces and travel through liquid.
Since they're not made from human cells, xenobots can't be used to treat humans, writes Matthew Hutson, a freelance science writer. But the anthrobots in the new study could theoretically. Each anthrobot started with a single cell from an adult human lung. It then grew into a multicellular biobot after being cultured (培养) for two weeks.
These lung cells are covered in cilia. But at this point in the research, the cilia were growing inside the clumps of cells. So, for the next week, the researchers grew the cells in a solution (溶液) that caused the cilia to face outward instead, enabling these structures to move the anthrobots, which could move in tight loops, travel in straight lines or wiggle in place. Their speed varied as well.
The researchers also tested how these robots might heal wounds. They mimicked (模拟) a wound by scratching a layer of neurons in a dish. Then, they introduced anthrobots to the site of the scratch, and within days, the neurons regrew, bridging the gap created by the wound. The findings show new structures that might have uses in biomedical settings can be developed without gene editing and without having to design the structures manually, the study authors write.
“Unlike xenobots, anthrobots don't require tools to give them shape, and we can use adult cells-even cells from elderly patients-instead of embryonic cells,” says Gizem Gumuskaya, the paper's lead author. "We can produce these robots in large amounts in parallel, which is a good start for developing a therapeutic tool.”
32.How are the advantages of the anthrobot highlighted in the text
A.By showing comments from users. B.By explaining some terms.
C.By making comparisons. D.By listing the data of questionnaires.
33.What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The weaknesses of the anthrobot. B.The culture of the anthrobot.
C.The structure of the anthrobot. D.The application of the anthrobot.
34.What is the feature of the anthrobot
A.It can travel both on land and in water. B.It requires no genetic modification.
C.It can be applied in a controlled way. D.It can develop from any cells of humans.
35.What can the study benefit
A.Regenerative medicine. B.New materials.
C.Environmental protection. D.Individualized education.
【答案】32.C 33.B 34.B 35.A

Four Tips to Discover Your True Passion
True passion is the emotion, feeling, and desire that arises out of love for something. It’s the force that magnifies (放大) your capabilities for the benefit of excellent performance. This is because it’s a powerful motivation for best performance and everyone wants to get there. 36 Finding what you’re passionate about is a long road that requires effort and the following are some useful tips.
Search your childhood.
The purity and truth of your being are in the early stages of life. To that end, going back to the things you loved back then is always an excellent indication of marked preferences. Did you want to be a doctor 37 These are all clues that begin to point the way. While it’s true that children have several preferences in their early stages, it’s actually quite easy to figure out which they prioritize (优先考虑).
Experiment and discover.
Doing the same activities day after day closes any probabilities to succeed in finding your true passion. 38 This creates a trial-and-error scenario (设想) that promotes a positive outcome in less time.
Focus to find your true passion.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Pave the way
From the picture we can see a family of three walking on a long red carpet. The son, well dressed, waves proudly in the middle while the father behind bends forward to hold the jacket and the mother in front rolls out the carpet, sweating.
It shows a common phenomenon nowadays that children are the focus of families, shouldering the hope of their parents. Parents arrange everything for their children and spare no effort to pave the way for their success. As a consequence, children become so reliant on their parents that they have no independent thought or creative ideas.
Such a situation is of great concern. In my opinion, overprotection and too much care are extremely bad for children’s development. Instead of doing everything for them, parents should encourage their children to overcome difficulties and inspire them to develop by themselves. Only in this way can they grow up to be independent and become truly successful. (157words)

第二节(满分25分)

注意:续写词数应为150字左右。
One night, sitting on the cold steps at the back of my apartment in Kansas, I’d been staring out into the darkness. The only light came from my cigarette. Rain soaked (浸湿) through my pants, but I didn’t care. Back in my room, there was a knife on the bedside table and a note on my computer screen. I hoped that whoever read it first would understand why I had the plan to end it all.
Six months before that night, a car accident caused a brain injury in me. I lost my job and had to live on my savings in my lonely apartment. Since then, I had been suffering from depression and struggling to get through each day.
I sat there on those cold steps just wanting to end it all. “Tonight. I will,” I thought as I took another drag of my cigarette.
“Meow ”
I looked up. A black and white cat with round green eyes looked back at me. He meowed again. Then, walking out from his hiding spot, he jumped at me. He was tiny and damp, but he rubbed up against my legs. When I reached down to pet him, he leaned into my touch, purring (发出呼噜声).
That was all it took. I cried. The cat just watched me. I didn’t scare him away. In fact, he stood there as if he knew how desperately I needed a companion right at that very moment.
I looked into his big green eyes and he looked back. Clearly a stray (流浪的) cat. “When was the last time you ate ” I said. My plan to end it all was put on hold, at least until I found this cat some food.
It became a routine: Every day, I’d go to the back steps with some cat food. Usually, the cat, whom I named Scout, was already waiting for me. He became more than something to live for. Over time he inspired me to get help for my depression and even gave me the confidence to get into a serious relationship with Becky in Pittsburgh, whom I had known for years.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Scout became my constant companion.

I was far from the lonely and depressed man that Scout had first approached in the rain, but I still needed to make a few more changes.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Scout became my constant companion. His presence, a warm reminder of the unexpected joys life could bring, filled the once empty corners of my apartment and my heart. We’d curl up together, his gentle purrs harmonizing with my newfound peace. I documented our journey on a blog, which unexpectedly garnered a community of supporters who shared their own tales of healing through pets. Inspired, I began volunteering at a local animal shelter, dedicating my weekends to giving back the love Scout had so generously bestowed upon me.
I was far from the lonely and depressed man that Scout had first approached in the rain, but I still needed to make a few more changes. No longer the lonely soul Scout met, I embarked on deeper healing: therapy to confront past traumas and mend relationships, including sharing my journey with Becky, whose support fortified me. My home transformed into a warm haven of joy and laughter, enriched by Scout. Restarting my career, I pursued work that let me give back, turning life into a hopeful canvas. Scout, the stray who trusted a stranger in the rain, inadvertently saved us both.

So, for the next week, the researchers grew the cells in a solution (溶液) that caused the cilia to face outward instead, enabling these structures to move the anthrobots,
which could move in tight loops, travel in straight lines or wiggle in place.

While it’s true
that children have several preferences in their early stages, it’s actually quite easy to figure out which they prioritize (优先考虑).
Experiment and discover.
Doing the same activities day after day closes any probabilities to succeed in finding your true passion. 38 This creates a trial-and-error scenario (设想) that promotes a positive outcome in less time.
Focus to find your true passion.
You must forget about the myth that doing what you’re passionate about will be easy and pleasant. This is because there’ll always be inconveniences in any activity you undertake. Beyond that, don’t lose focus on the fact that these are temporary moments. 39
Remember that your age doesn’t matter.
40 Encouraging yourself to take the first step can be difficult due to some of society’s obsolete (被淘汰的) barriers. The truth is that you must allow yourself to achieve and show your tastes leaving aside any obstacles, especially those that are self-imposed (自己强加的). It’s never too late!
A.Were you interested in insects
B.Take a variety of courses each month.
C.Do you know the meaning of passion
D.Age isn’t necessary to find out your true passion.
E.Be calm while finding out your motivation.
F.It’s vital to figure out what you’re passionate about.
G.Understanding this will make it easier to keep motivated.

After a show, people young and old come up to me, saying what a(n) 53 I am. They say they want to be as active as me when they 54 my age. I’m pleased I can show that as an older person you don’t need to take a 55 seat in life.”

注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
