This is not a diet. It’s a simple way to lose weight. You don’t have to give up the food you love or join a gym. You just follow some habits that thin people have. Keep them, and you’ll become thin.
◆Wake up When you wake up in the morning, sit up slowly without using your hands. With legs straight out, lean forward until you feel sore(酸痛的) in your back. It will use up 10 calories.
◆Start with soup Order a clear soup, and have it before the main food. In this way, you’ll feel fuller, so you’ll eat less when the main food comes.
◆An apple or more a day Apples are full of fiber and water, so your stomach will want less. Studies show that people who eat at least three apples or pears a day may lose weight.
◆Talk it up Every time you use the cell phone, stand up and walk around. Heavy people sit on average two and a half hours more each day than thin people. This skill is very important as standing up and walking around will burn up 50 or more calories.

High school was a hard time for me in the beginning because I had just moved to a small town and knew basically no one. I loved to play basketball but was afraid to go to tryout (选拔) for the school's team because I didn't know anyone. One day all that changed when I missed the bus home and decided to shoot baskets on the school playground to kill time. The coach Mr.Colbath had been watching me make various baskets and was pretty impressed with my moves.
He came up to me and asked me who had taught me to play like that. I told him that my dad had taught me how to play basketball. He asked me if he would see me at the tryout on Friday, but I said no and told him why. He told me to have a try because I played very well and would maybe make some friends on the court. After thinking for a few minutes, I finally decided to have a try.
On the day of the tryout, the coach came, found me and helped me practice before the tryout. He helped me a lot and I did very well at the tryout and many members of the team were quite impressed. I did make the team and over the next few years the coach helped me both on and off the court. He helped me do my math which I had such a difficult time with and he even taught me how to live independently.

Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains,in the waves,or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment.
Some sports are resource hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water.Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example,in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.
There are many environment friendly sports.Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don't need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes;and you don't have to worry about resources and your purse.Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit.If you walk regularly,it will be good for your heart and bones.Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.
Whatever sport you take up,you can make it greener by using environment friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”.They are better replacements(代替物) for traditional health clubs and modern sports centres.Members of green gyms play sports outdoors,in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all,it's free.

B. To encourage us to go in for green sports
C. To discuss the major influence of popular sports
D. To introduce different types of environment friendly sports

Like all big cities, Paris has a traffic problem: lots of cars, lots of traffic jams and lots of pollution from exhaust fumes (废气). So the city began a plan to improve the situation.
Under the Velib plan (‘Velib’ comes from vélo liberté, or ‘bicycle freedom’) people can take a bicycle, use it for as long as they want, and then leave it at the same or another bicycle station. The first half hour on the bike is free, but if you don't return it after 30 minutes, you have to pay. But it's only 1 a day or 29 a year! The bicycles are heavy (25 kg), and they are all grey and have baskets. There are about 20,000 of them in the city, and around 1,450 bicycle stations. So there are a lot more Velib stations than the 298 subway stations!
Paris is not the first city to have a plan like this. But not everybody thinks it's a great idea. One Parisian said, “These bicycles are only for short journeys. If people want to travel across the city, they won't use a bicycle—they'll still use their cars.”
A city spokesman said, “The bicycle plan won't solve all our traffic problems, of course. But it might help reduce air pollution. Traffic, together with factory fumes, is a big problem. There aren't any simple answers to traffic problems and pollution in cities. But unless we do something now, there will be more traffic jams and temperatures will continue to rise, so the problems in our environment will get worse. The bikes might help people to lead a healthier life, too.”
12.What can we learn about the Velib plan
A. Its bikes have no baskets.
B. Its bikes are light and colorful.
C. It aims to make traveling easier.
D. It owns more stations than the subway.
13.If you use a Velib for 1 hour, how much should you pay
A.1. B.30. C.29. D. No money.
14.Why do some people disagree with the Velib plan
A.The cost is rather high.
B. It's hard to find a Velib station.
C. It's not suitable for a long journey.
D.The distance between two Velib stations is long.
15.What's the city spokesman's attitude towards the bicycle plan
A. Doubtful. B. Positive. C. Uncaring. D. Worried.

A little boy selling magazines for school walked up to a house that people hardly visited. The house was very old and the owner hardly ever came out. When he did come out he would not say hello to neighbors or passers by but simply just glare(瞪眼看)at them.
The boy knocked on the door and waited, sweating from fear of the old man. The boy's parents told him to stay away from the house. A lot of the other neighborhood children were told the same from their parents.
As he was ready to walk away, the door slowly opened. " What do you want " the old man said. The little boy was very afraid but he had a quota(份额) to meet for school with selling the magazines.
"Uh, sir, I uh am selling these magazines and uh I was wondering if you would like to buy one." The old man just stared at the boy. The boy could see inside the old man's house and saw that he had dog figurines(小狗雕像) on the wall. "Do you collect dogs " the little boy asked. "Yes, I have many collections in my house. They are my family here. They are all I have." The boy then felt sorry for the man, as it seemed that he was a very lonely soul. "Well, I do have a magazine here for collectors. It is perfect for you. I also have one about dogs since you like dogs so much." The old man was ready to close the door on the boy and said, "No boy, I don't need any magazines of any kind, now goodbye."
The little boy was sad that he was not going to make his quota with the sale. He was also sad for the old man being so alone in the big house that he owned. The boy went home and then had an idea. He had a little dog figurine that he got some years ago from an aunt. The figurine did not mean nearly as much to him since he had a real live dog and a large family.
注意:
1.续写的短文词数应为150左右;
The boy headed back down to the old man's house with the figurine. From that day on something changed inside the old man.
A
根据第一段中“You just follow some habits that thin people have. Keep them, and you’ll become thin.”
根据第三段中的“Order a clear soup, and have it before the main food.” Keep them, and you’ll become thin.
根据第一段中“One day all that changed when I missed the bus home and decided to shoot baskets on the school playground to kill time.”
根据第一段中“I loved to play basketball but was afraid to go to tryout (选拔) for the school's team because I didn't know anyone.”
根据下文中“and over the next few years the coach helped me both on and off the court”可知接下来的几年里,无论是场内还是场外,教练都给予“我”许多帮助。
根据最后一段第一、二句和倒数第二句“Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces.”
文章第三段首先提到“There are many environment friendly sports.”,然后介绍power walking,结合下文“You don't need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes;and you don't have to worry about resources and your purse.”
纵观全文可知,文章简述了资源耗费较多的运动, 最后一段作者提到“Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials.”
根据第二段第四句“The bicycles are heavy (25 kg), and they are all grey and have baskets.”可知,A、B两项错误;根据第一段中可知,自行车计划的目的是改善交通拥堵和废气污染的问题,故C项和原文不符;根据第二段最后一句“So there are a lot more Velib stations than the 298 subway stations!”
根据第三段中的“These bicycles are only for short journeys.”
根据最后一段中城市发言人说的话“The bikes might help people to lead a healthier life, too.”
16.A【解析】根据本段小标题“Stretch in bed.” 又根据空前的 “Lift one arm and begin by stretching each finger, then your hand, then your wrist, and then your whole arm.”和空后的“Then stretch your toes, feet, ankles, and legs.” A项中的the other arm与空前的one arm相呼应。
C项中的on an empty stomach与本段中的on an empty stomach呼应,且C项的内容与本段的主题一致。故选C项。
18.G【解析】根据本段小标题“Turn on the music.”
19.F 【解析】设空前一句“Many people fear to face a new day of work, school,or chores.” 而空后“This can be having a cup of coffee as you read your favorite blog, etc.”
20.E【解析】根据空前一句“You’ve improved your state of mind, your health, and your productivity—all before the weekday has even begun.”

A Cross-Country Running Race
Last Sunday, our school held a 5km cross-country running race, which attracted many enthusiastic participants, including both students and teachers.
The route went from our school gate to the foot of the South Mountain. The whole course was extremely difficult, especially the part near the mountain, narrow and rough. However difficult it was, no participants gave up halfway. All the racers held on to the finish line.
The race was of great benefit to the participants, physically and mentally. Therefore, we all think highly of it, and expect more activities like this in the future.
The boy headed back down to the old man's house with the figurine. Afraid as he felt, he still knocked on the door, waiting breathlessly. Finally, it opened and out came the old man. Seeing the boy holding a well-wrapped dog figurine, he looked very astonished but still glared at him without a word. Determined to break the ice, the boy gave the old man the gift with a card attached, expressing his care. The old man was so moved by all the boy did that words failed to convey his emotions. “Thank you so much!” he said to the boy gently and kindly.
From that day on something changed inside the old man. The neighborhood always found the old man hanging out and smiling at everyone. He showed his precious collections to children actively and warmly. He used to collect figurines in memory of a real live dog which had kept company with him for a long time before it died. But now, he wasn’t drowned in the sorrows and loneliness anymore. He had realized the true spirit of life.北师大必修一Unit 2 Sports and Fitness单元检测卷(A)

Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.
Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50 kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport's rules require that a race walker's knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times. It's this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.
Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says. According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories (卡路里) per hour, which is approximately twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1, 000 or more calories per hour.
However, race walking does not pound the body as much as running does, Dr.Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.
As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner's knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport's strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips, so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. It takes some practice.
12.Why are race walkers conditioned athletes
A. They must run long distances.
B. They are qualified for the marathon.
C. They have to follow special rules.
D. They are good at swinging their legs.
13.What advantage does race walking have over running
A. It's more popular at the Olympics.
B. It's less challenging physically.
C. It's more effective in body building.
D. It's less likely to cause knee injuries.
14.What is Dr. Norberg's suggestion for someone trying race walking
A. Getting experts' opinions.
B. Having a medical checkup.
C. Hiring an experienced coach.
D. Doing regular exercises.
15.Which word best describes the author's attitude to race walking
A. Skeptical(怀疑的). B. Objective(客观的).
C. Tolerant(宽容的). D.Conservative(保守的).

As a sixth grader, I began noticing how other kids were separating into groups. I wasn't sure where I belonged. I found it hard to fit in.
Our teacher had assigned "secret friends” for the coming week. She wrote each kid's name on a piece of paper and threw them into a glass; then we each closed our eyes and drew the name of a classmate who we were to secretly befriend and support over the next five school days. By the middle of the week, everyone, including me, had turned this assignment into a contest to see whose secret friend could leave the best gift. We left cards, pens and even money. It seemed that everyone was getting cool presents from their friend except me.
On the last morning of our assignment, I walked into my classroom and noticed there was a package. I opened the wrapping paper and inside was a box of powder(胭脂粉).The girls sitting near me laughed the gift I had received. To make matters worse, the powder had already been opened.
I tried to forget about the embarrassing gift, but when I was in the bathroom during the break, the girls who had seen me open the powder started speaking ill of my secret friend of giving it to me. I quickly joined in "How terrible," I heard myself saying "What could my friend be thinking by giving me such a stupid gift My grandmother wouldn't even want it." The girls laughed at my remarks and rushed out of the bathroom. I stayed to wash my hands and let the water run through my fingers as I thought about what I had just said. It wasn't normal like me to say mean things like that about someone.

Then I saw my classmate Janet come out of a bathroom, tears streaming down her face. Along with my apologies, I explained the reason.
Then I saw my classmate Janet come out of a bathroom , tears streaming down her face. She shouted at me with anger, “If you don’t want my gift you can just leave it instead of laughing at it. This is the best powder from my mum! “Before I could say a word, Janet dashed out, leaving me dumb with deep regret. But soon I clenched my fingers and made up my mind to find Janet and say sorry to her. There she was, sitting in a tree shadow wiping her eyes.
Along with my apologies, I explained the reason. I was not a mean girl by judging people’s presents. The reason why I complained in front of the girls was that I wanted to fit in, having a sense of belonging in the group. Hearing my sincere words, Janet calmed herself down after constant sobs and said, “True friendship comes from genuine care and love for each other. I think that’s our teacher’s intention of this ‘secret friend’ assignment”. That day, I learned to cherish real friendship.
