①It is true that people with better education are usually able to get better-paid jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don’t.
②It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But this isn’t accepted by all people. Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life getting education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education. In fact, if education is just a way of making a living, people don’t need to spend so much time at school. People can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. Even language and maths need not be taught in detail(详细地)either. Here it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.
③Education is well-rounded(全面的)and it is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of humans. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch good plays and take an interest in the world.
④I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the main reason.
19.The earliest education was probably to ________.
A.make a man lead a better life
B.teach a man to write and read
C.make people get a way of living
D.teach people to read good books
20.What’s the main idea of Para 3
A.The advantages of education. B.The process of education.
C.The ways of getting education. D.The people for getting the education.
21.What’s the structure of the passage
A. B.
C. D.
22.Which is TRUE according to the passage
A.Education can improve a man.
B.Making a living is the main reason of education.
C.Little educated people can find jobs easily.
D.People can get education in a short time.
【答案】19.C 20.A 21.B 22.A
【解析】本文是一篇议论文。主要讲述了人们学习知识、接受教育的目的不仅是找一份高收入的工作和谋求更好的生活,而且是为了成为一个全面发展、能够自主学习、感恩世界的人才。
19.细节理解题。根据“Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life getting education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education.”
根据“Education is well-rounded(全面的)and it is mainly for improving a man.”可知,教育是全面的,它主要是为了提高一个人。故选A。

A new video series (系列) called Escape from the British Museum came out on August 30th, 2023. It has caused heated discussions in China’s social media recently.
The three-part series was created by two Chinese video vloggers. It features a woman who plays the role of an ancient jade teapot, a beautiful piece of China’s history. Her partner is a reporter who helps the jade teapot return to China. Together, they tell a tale of how the teapot, a symbol of Chinese artistry, escapes from the British Museum and finds its way back to China.
The videos were inspired (赋予灵感) by an Internet friend. He suggested making a video to record the hard way of Chinese cultural relics (文物) returning home from the UK to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year and to raise awareness about the importance of cultural heritage (遗产).
To bring this story to life, the two loggers travelled all the way to the UK and spent three whole months shooting the videos. The story they created is based on real events and facts, and aims to draw attention to the Chinese relics that are kept in museums far away from their home country.
The British Museum is known to have a total of 23,000 Chinese relics, while about 2,000 Chinese relics are on long-term display. The Chinese objects, from the New Stone Age to the present, include paintings, prints, jades and so on.
For long, the British has said that the cultural relics are safer and better protected at the British Museum, to refuse their return. But the British Museum was reported to have lost some cultural relics, which has caused a lot of concern around the world.
The videos are not only fun to watch but also serve as a reminder of the rich history and culture of China. The creators of the series hope that their work will inspire a love for Chinese heritage.
Though there is still a long way to go to return the cultural relics, China’s search for the lost cultural relics abroad will not stop.
23.How does the series bring the jade teapot to life
A.By having an actress play the role of the teapot.
B.By showing it as a character in a historical drama.
C.By telling its story from the first-person point of view.
D.By using computer cartoons to express the deep meaning.
24.What inspired the production of the video series
A.An exhibition at a museum in China. B.A suggestion from an online friend.
C.An official program on cultural heritage. D.A contest by a well-known Chinese artist.
25.What is the aim of the video series Escape from the British Museum
A.To interest people with a made-up story.
B.To show the history of the British Museum.
C.To encourage Chinese people to travel to the UK.
D.To make people care about Chinese relics abroad.
26.What’s the writer’s opinion on the fact that Chinese relics are held abroad
A.He is not interested in the events shown in the video series.
B.He is worried and hopes they can be returned to China soon.
C.He is proud that Chinese relics are shared with other countries.
D.He is sure that the museum does a good job of protecting the relics.

Many people know that rubbish is a big problem on planet Earth. What many people don’t know is that junk (垃圾) has become a problem in outer space too.
According to BBC News, there are more than 22,000 pieces of space junk floating around the earth. And these are just the things that we can see from the surface of the earth by telescopes (望远镜). There are also millions of smaller pieces of junk that we can’t see.
Objects (物体), like bits of old space rockets or satellites, move around the planet at very high speeds. They are so fast that even a very small piece can break important satellites or become a danger to astronauts. If the tiniest piece of junk crashed into a spaceship, it could damage the spaceship.
To make things worse, when two objects in space crash, they break into many smaller pieces. For, example, when a U.S. satellite hit an old Russian rocket in 2009, it broke into more than 2,000 pieces , increasing the amount of space junk.
To reduce additional space junk, countries have agreed that all new space tools can only stay in space for 25 years at most. Each tool must be built to fall safely into the earth’s atmosphere (大气层) after that time. In the upper parts of the atmosphere, it will burn up.
Many scientists are also suggesting different ways to clean up space junk. In England scientists are testing a metal net that can be fired into space junk. The net catches the junk and then pulls it into the earth’s atmosphere to burn up. The Germans are building robots that can collect pieces of space junk and bring them back to Earth to be safely destroyed.
“The problem is becoming more challenging because we’re sending more objects into space to help people use their mobile phones and computers,” says Marco Castronuovo, an Italian space researcher.
“The time to act is now. The longer we leave the problem, the bigger it will become,” he says.
27.What does the underlined word “these” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A.Telescopes. B.Satellites. C.Pieces of space junk. D.BBC News reports.
28.Why is space junk considered a problem
A.It burns up after it reenters the atmosphere.
B.It often stops the view of telescopes on Earth.
C.It could force (迫使) new space tools to travel at slower speeds
D.It may crash into other space tools causing damage or death.
29.Countries want future space tools to be able to fall back into the earth’s atmosphere so that ________.
A.the tools can be reused later B.the tools don’t become space junk
C.the earth’s atmosphere can stay clean D.the effects of space flight can be studied
30.How do the Germans plan to deal with space junk
A.Catch it with nets. B.Use robots to collect it.
C.Burn it ‘in the earth’s atmosphere. D.Send it further away from the earth.
【答案】27.C 28.D 29.B 30.B
