Ireland is one of the world’s dreamiest destinations with its peaceful landscapes and fantastic culture. To ensure you have the best time, I’ve come up with the bucket list for Ireland!
The Wild Atlantic Way
It’s Ireland’s most popular road trip and it’s not hard to see why! Covering an impressive 1600 miles, it’s one of the world’s longest coastal routes. To drive the whole thing, you’ll need at least 7 days but preferably more.
The Ring of Kerry
It’s another famous road trip route in Ireland. In fact, it makes up part of the Wild Atlantic Way. It covers a distance of around 111 miles. So you don’t rush your time in this area, try to allow at least 3.5 hours for the best experience.
The Sky Road
It’s only 10 miles long, but allow at least 2.5 hours so you can explore some of the top sights in the area. There’s an upper and lower road that you can take, with the upper road offering the best views. However, you can always do both if you wish (just allow more time).
The Coastal Causeway Route
This awesome road trip starts from Belfast and ends in the city of Derry. This route covers a distance of around 120 miles and the majority of it runs along the coast, so you’ll get breathtaking views. Try to allow at least 3-4 days if you plan to do this route.

In 2019, a white-haired senior was awarded the Friendship Medal, the highest order of honor of China for foreigners. It was Isabel Crook. In her more than a century of life, she spent more than 90 years in China and cultivated (培养) a large number of foreign language talents for China.
In 1915, Isabel was born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. After graduating from the University of Toronto in 1938, Isabel couldn’t wait to return to China. With hard work, she and her colleague completed the survey of over 1,500 families in some villages in Bishan County. She recorded the daily life of the villagers in Xinglongchang with detailed field notes, which give the young people today some idea of the state of affairs in villages at that time.
In 1947, Isabel and her husband David Crook came to China to observe and study the ongoing land reform. A year later, they completed the study and accepted the invitation to stay in China for language teaching.
One could hardly imagine the teaching conditions in the midst of a war. They asked their students to take small stools (凳子) with them so that they could give class everywhere. They tailored (定制) teaching approaches to suit students’ different language proficiency levels. Without handy teaching materials, they collected articles from English newspapers and magazines. In oral English teaching, Isabel asked students to watch their teachers in a given conversation first. Since there were no tape recorders at school, she had to perform the conversation again and again.
Isabel retired in 1981, but she returned to Southwest China many times to set up scholarship for children from poor families. She also went to Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and other places to help with foreign language teaching. Isabel died in 2023 in Beijing.
24. What do we know about Isabel according to the text

La Voce Ballo (LVB) which means “the dancing voices” in Italian is an all-women show choir at Bemidji High School in Minnesota, US. Established in 2004, the group has captured many awards, including Best Choreography, Best Vocals, and Best Band. Show choir programs in Bemidji draw in over 250 students to participate every year.
Walking into the choir room during an LVB rehearsal (排练), you’d surely feel an atmosphere full of laughter, smiles and warm-ups. One of the marked differences between LVB and the other choirs, Director Emily Paine said, is the sister-like relationship the members share. During full distance learning, for example, the group participated in a “Secret Sister” gift exchange, similar to a “Secret Santa”, within the choir and dropped gifts at each others’ homes. The captains, Thompson and Kanani, agreed. “We’re kind of like a big family.”
Last year, for some reason virtual rehearsals became the norm (常态) for LVB. “We have a computer set up in the middle of the room with students tuning in,” Paine explained. “Especially when we were hybrid (混合的), we’d have half of our students coming in person, and half joining online.”
Kanani said the hardest part of online rehearsals was not being able to hear the other students singing, as they generally turned off their individual microphones during these video sessions. However, one perk of this, Kanani noted, was that she felt she had learned the music much more thoroughly than in other seasons. “I know the music a lot better than I have in past years,” she said. “You couldn’t rely on someone else.”
Luckily, the group has gotten the chance to be back on stage recently. Members performed during the BHS spring concerts and then held their own LVB concert on March 20.
28. What do we know about La Voce Ballo
A. It is a local choir in New York.
B. Its name comes from German.
C. It attracts 250 boys and girls every year.
D. It has won a lot of awards since 2004.
29. What makes LVB different from other choirs, according to Emily Paine
A. The members’ remarkable achievements.
B. The way the members perform online.
C. The close relationship the members have.
D. The members’ tradition of exchanging gifts.
30. What is the most difficult for online rehearsals, according to Kanani
A. The choir room couldn’t function well.
B. Members couldn’t hear each other singing.
C. Members were afraid to perform all together.
D. The choir had no experience in virtual rehearsals.
31. What does the underlined word “perk” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. A bad effect. B. A special benefit.
C. An effective solution. D. An unexpected challenge.
【答案】28. D 29. C 30. B 31. B

【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Kanani said the hardest part of online rehearsals was not being able to hear the other students singing, as they generally turned off their individual microphones during these video sessions.(Kanani说,在线排练最困难的部分是听不到其他学生唱歌,因为他们在视频过程中通常会关掉自己的麦克风)”可知,Kanani认为线上排练最难的部分是成员之间不能听到彼此唱歌的声音,故选B。

A new study from social scientists at Caltech now shows how long it takes to form the gym habit: an average of about six months. The same study also looked at how long it takes healthcare workers to get in the habit of washing their hands: an average of a few weeks.
“There is no magic number for habit formation (形成),” says Anastasia Buyalskaya, author of the study, now an assistant professor of marketing at HEC Paris. “Many may have heard that it takes about 21 days to form a habit, but that was not based on any science. Our works support the idea that the speed of habit formation differs according to the behavior in question and a variety of other factors.”
The study is the first to use machine learning tools to study habit formation. The researchers used machine learning to study large data sets of tens of thousands of people. “With machine learning we can observe hundreds of variables (变量),” explains Buyalskaya. Machine learning let the researchers study how people behave over time in their natural environments; most previous studies were limited to people filling out surveys.
The study found that certain variables had no effect on gym habit formation, such as time of day. Other factors, such as one’s past behavior, did come into play. For example, for 76 percent of gym-goers, the amount of time that had passed since a previous gym visit was very important to whether the person would go again. In other words, the longer it had been since a gym-goer last went to the gym, the less likely they were to make a habit of it. Sixty-nine percent of the gym-goers were more likely to go to the gym on the same days of the week, with Monday and Tuesday being the most well-attended.
“Overall, we are seeing that machine learning is a powerful tool to study human habits outside the lab,” Buyalskaya says.
32. Which of the following does Buyalskaya agree with
A. It takes about 21 days to develop a good habit.
B. It takes half a year to form the habit of going to the gym.
C. Habits are formed at varying speeds depending on behaviors.
D. Doctors need weeks to develop the habit of hand washing.
33. What made the new study unique
A. It collected a sea of data.
B. It was conducted by an international team.
C. It studied behavioral effects on habit formation.
D. It applied machine learning technology.
34. Which of the following influenced gym habit formation greatly according to the study
A. The day of the week. B. The last gym visit.
C. The fitness instructor. D. The length of a gym class.
35. What can be the best title for the text
A. No magic number for time it takes to form habits
B. Build lasting habits: keys to successful behavior change
C. Habit formation appears to be up to personal ability
D. Try machine learning: a tool for behavior study
【答案】32. C 33. D 34. B 35. A
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇说明文,一项研究表明,习惯形成没有神奇的数字,习惯的形成速度因行为而异。
【32题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“Our works support the idea that the speed of habit formation differs according to the behavior in question and a variety of other factors.(我们的研究支持这样一种观点,即习惯形成的速度会根据所讨论的行为和各种其他因素而不同)”可知,Buyalskaya认为习惯的形成速度因行为而异,故选C。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“The study is the first to use machine learning tools to study habit formation.(这项研究首次使用机器学习工具来研究习惯的形成)”可知,该研究的特别之处在于它运用了机器学习技术,故选D。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“For example, for 76 percent of gym-goers, the amount of time that had passed since a previous gym visit was very important to whether the person would go again. In other words, the longer it had been since a gym-goer last went to the gym, the less likely they were to make a habit of it.(例如,对于76%的健身爱好者来说,上一次去健身房的时间对于他们是否会再去非常重要。换句话说,自一个人上一次去健身房的时间越长,他就越不可能养成去健身房的习惯)”可知,距离上一次去健身房的时间长度对于养成去健身房的习惯有很大影响,故选B。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,结合第二段中“There is no magic number for habit formation (形成)(习惯形成没有神奇的数字)”和“Our works support the idea that the speed of habit formation differs according to the behavior in question and a variety of other factors.(我们的研究支持这样一种观点,即习惯形成的速度会根据所讨论的行为和各种其他因素而不同)”可知,一项研究表明,习惯形成没有神奇的数字,习惯的形成速度因行为而异,A项“养成习惯所需要的时间没有神奇的数字”为最佳标题,故选A。

As we know, the Internet can help develop friendships in many ways. It makes communication much more convenient. ___36___ Nowadays, your friends are just a click away.
Whenever someone needs help, friends from all over the world can immediately provide useful suggestions or information. Online communication can actually bring people closer to each other. In spite of this, some people believe that the Internet has many negative aspects.
___37___ Images really cannot replace a real-life smile or hug. According to a parenting expert, Denise Daniels, communicating through a screen makes it more difficult for children to concentrate or show kindness to others. Important social skills are developed through direct contact. It is these skills that enable us to develop lifelong friendships.
The Internet can make people self-centred. ___38___ For example, instead of having proper conversations with friends, some people are only concerned with their online popularity — How many “likes” did I get How many followers do I have — though we know that the number of “likes” or followers cannot compare to having long-term and rewarding friendships. ___39___ Posts about funny cat images do not necessarily help form meaningful relationship.
Online relationships may not be what they appear to be. Friendships are built on the basis of trust. With online communication you can never be 100 percent sure that the people you are chatting to are being honest about who they are. ___40___
In my opinion, friends should focus more on face-to-face communication, and less on online communication. This is the best way to maintain healthy relationships.

The Araguaia River is one of the biggest rivers in Brazil. It is home to thousands of animals. River dolphins swim and play in the water, and there are many different colored fish.
In one town, a 13-year-old boy named Rhenan walks along the river every day. But looking at the river makes him worry because there is rubbish everywhere. He sees plastic bottles, old clothing, and empty food packages. The water looks dark and ugly.
One day Rhenan asked about the dirty river at school. “You wouldn’t want rubbish in your house,” said his teacher. “Think about the poor animals!” For days, Rhenan couldn’t stop thinking about the river. It doesn’t seem right to him that this big and powerful river is filled with rubbish. “It’s hurting the animals in my area,” he thought. “And it’s also hurting the families who live here.” Then Rhenan had an idea.
The next morning, Rhenan talked to his mother about his plan for the river. He wanted to go around his town and ask for everyone’s help. Maybe if they all worked together, they could clean up the river!
Rhenan’s mother loved his idea. “I believe the most important thing for you, Rhenan, is learning how to change things that you care about. That will stay with you forever.” She said. She told him she would help him along the way.
The next day, Rhenan went to the police department and next to the office of the Mayor (市长). He visited offices, businesses, and other schools. Soon he had a very big group of people who like his idea! They all decided to meet at the river the following week. On the day of the river clean-up, Rhenan was excited—but he was also nervous. Paragraph 1
Over the whole day, they all worked together to clean up the trash. They managed to pick up the plastic bottles, old clothing, and food packages in the river and pulled them out of the water. As they worked, Rhenan noticed how everyone was laughing and smiling. Obviously, they were happy to do this. It did make them feel good to help their community. They were really productive, and when they were done, they picked up almost a tonne of rubbish—that’s the same weight as a car! It was really surprising.
Paragraph 2
At the end of the day, everyone started to cheer. They were proud of the change that they had made—the river rushes along beside them, clean and clear. Looking at the river, they thanked Rhenan. Rhenan felt like he was on top of the world. To stop problems like this from happening again, the town decided to teach everyone why throwing rubbish in the river was harmful. They also planned to help the river by planting more trees along the riverbank for birds to live in.

C An effective solution. D. An unexpected challenge.
D
“With machine learning, we can observe hundreds of variables (变量),” explains Buyalskaya.

A. The Internet has completely changed people’s lives.
B. They never think of anyone or anything but themselves.
C. Talking online is no replacement for face-to-face contact.
D. You can stay in touch with friends no matter where you are.
E. It’s impolite to post embarrassing information of other people.
F. In addition, a lot of the content posted on social media is of little value.
G. Going online can be dangerous if you are easily influenced or too trusting.
