In the live-streaming(直播) channel of Yang Weiyun, no singing or dancing is performed nor are products sold. Yang teaches pinyin, reading and writing, something that has been most familiar to her for the past 50 years. The difference is her students are mostly adults.
The 73-year-old comes from Huainan city of Anhui province and is an experienced educator. She had been a Chinese teacher in an elementary school for 50 years. In retirement, Yang also wanted to do something meaningful. The rise of short video platforms gave her the idea of continuing her education attempt through live-streaming online. The retiree opened her live-streaming account in May 2021 and offered free pinyin courses designed for kindergarten pupils about to attend primary schools. However, she gradually learned among her viewers there are a lot of illiterate(文盲) adults.
Yang said she found many illiterate adults develop a sense of lack of confidence. They are afraid to go to new places, worried that they couldn’t teach their children or read their boss’s instructions. So, she added targeted content(内容) to meet their needs. “Many illiterate adults didn’t have the chance to go to school when they were young. They are the ones in urgent need of becoming literate. I wanted to give them a new starting point,” Yang said.
According to the seventh national census(人口普查) carried out last year, there are 38 million illiterate adults in China. Yang’s live-streaming channel offers an easy and private way for those who want to overcome adult illiteracy.
Yang said students learning through her live-streaming channel each have their own demands. So she always prepares her classes carefully after concluding a live-streaming session. She has tried her best to figure out what ways the students can learn and remember better, and her biggest wish now is to see these students graduate from her classes.

A.To teach retired adults Chinese. B.To spread Chinese character culture.
C.To teach kids before primary school. D.To sell products in her live-streaming channel.

A.She was an experienced and respectable teacher.
B.Many people believe her classes are beneficial for their children.
C.Her class is vivid and lively with singing or dancing performance.

A flood hit Yellowstone National Park on June 13, 2022.The disaster was caused by a combination of unusually heavy rains and rapid snow melt(融化). The high and fast water flows destroyed bridges and swept away entire roadways, leaving communities and homes isolated. Fortunately, the approximately 10,000 park visitors were safely evacuated.
The town of Gardiner, along the Montana-Wyoming border, was particularly hard hit. The floodwaters left almost 900 people with no power or water for many days. Gardiner’s economy, which depends on the almost three-quarters of a million visitors who pass through the park’s north gate annually, is likely to take a hit. The floodwaters severely damaged the main north entrance road to Yellowstone, and could take years to rebuild.
Park officials have begun work on improving another road to Gardiner. This will ensure that locals can access food, supplies, and other essential emergency services. A limited number of tourists may also be allowed into Gardiner once the road is stable.
Yellowstone’s north gate is closed indefinitely. But the park’s south gate opened to visitors on June 22, 2022. Park officials have started a new entry system to prevent overcrowding. It is based on the last number of the visitor’s vehicle license plate and the calendar date of the month. Cars with odd (奇数的) numbers can visit the park on odd days of the month, while those with even(偶数的)numbers can go on even days.
Established in 1872, Yellowstone is America’s oldest national park. The 3,472-square-mile reserve spans three states and is home to many unique wildlife. It is known for its natural beauty that includes mountains, rivers and lakes. The forces of fire and ice shaped the park over thousands of years.
28.What does the underlined word “isolated” in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A.Tracked. B.Separated. C.Decorated. D.Improved.
29.What was the possible result of the flood
A.Gardiner’s economy would get into trouble. B.Communities and homes were left in ruins.
C.Almost 900 people were trapped in the park. D.The park’s south gate was closed for a while.
30.What can be inferred from the text
A.Local people can get daily necessities from visitors.
B.The park has adopted a new system to recognize faces.
C.The license plate number decides when cars enter the park.
D.More tourists may flood into the park for geological features.
31.Which of the following statements is true according to the text

Who would have thought a teenager’s mobile phone could help them manage their men tal health by supporting a good night’s sleep A new app aimed at 12-to 16-year-olds is showing strong early results, improving both the hours of sleep and reducing depression and anxiety.
Sleep Ninja, a free app created by mental health research organization the Black Dog Institute, has shown significant early results in improving teenagers’ sleep patterns(模式), so critical not just for school readiness but for overall good mental health, co-creator Aliza Werner-Seidler said.
“Adolescents(青少年) struggle to get the recommended eight to 10 hours of sleep each night,” Dr Werner-Seidler, a clinical psychologist, said. “As a result, approximately 40 per cent of all young people will experience a significant sleep problem by early high school which heightens their risk of mental ill-health, which is a risk factor for a range of disorders including depression and anxiety.”
Those using the app nominate a time to be up in the morning to make it to school or other activities. From there, it work backwards, determining when they should be in bed. The app gives an alert to start a pre-bed routine, which launches at least an hour before bed time. Part of that routine is to put the phone and other devices away, and engage in behaviors more suitable to sleep. Some of this is simply to have a shower, clean teeth, read a book. But the app also offers a form of practical tips to help them establish sleep routines, things like how to set up their bedroom, what to do during the day to improve their chances of sleep and how to reduce those negative repetitive thoughts that come in at night.
Dr Werner-Seidler said Sleep Ninja was the only such app designed specifically for adolescents, and the results so far had been very encouraging. She added that we also saw rates of depression drop from 77 percent at the start of the study to 44 percent after using the app.
32.What do we know about Sleep Ninja
A.It’s a newly-designed mobile phone. B.It’s a free product of the Black Dog Institute.
C.It is invented by 12-to 16-year-olds. D.It has nothing to do with mental health.
33.What does the third paragraph focus on
A.The creating process of Sleep Ninja. B.The heavy burden of schooling.
C.The practical need for Sleep Ninja. D.The cost of making Sleep Ninja.
34.How can Sleep Ninja work on teenagers
A.By waking up on time in the morning. B.By setting up the bedroom.
C.By putting digital devices away. D.By helping form good sleep routines.
35.What’s the text

My life as a kid was a sweet life. I lived in a beautiful house with the beautiful surroundings in Peru. There was one particular thing I loved and it was a huge tree that was in my backyard. As a child, I used to climb the tree every day. Every time I went, I climbed higher and higher, reaching new branches, obstacles(障碍物), and pathways on my way up. One day, I finally reached the top and I could see my island. I felt I was on top of the world, and nothing could stop me. It was the special tree that taught me never to give up and reach higher.
Then, there was the day that seemed like the end of my life. This specific day changed my life forever.
It was a nice summer day. After breakfast, my family headed to the park to see my baseball game. In the evening we went to a carnival(嘉年华) in my town. My grandma was selling blankets under a tent( 帐篷). Suddenly, the mood of the day changed when my parents took me to my grandma’s tent. Still to this day, I remember the exact words my dad said to me, “Son, how would you like to move to the United States ” I couldn’t believe what he said. I then ra n away from him as the tears rolled down my cheeks. My perfect life was being taken away from me.
Two weeks later, we arrived at New York in late July, and my aunt and uncle drove us to Springfield, Massachusetts where we lived for seven years. As a 9-year-old kid who grew up in Peru, I knew little about local language and culture. What’s worse, September came soon and school started.
