文档简介

Passage 1
Every day, a lot of people move house. With newfound appreciation for space and air, it may suddenly have seemed as if a new kind of life was possible.__1__ Here's some expert advice on how to build a new community.
__2__
Ask people you already know if they could introduce you to anyone in the location to which you are moving. The posting on social media is probably the easiest way to tap your friends' friends. It increases the chance that there's someone you will get along with.
Don't expect friends to magically appear.
__3__ People really need to take the initiative to go out there and meet other people and not assume that friends are just going to fall into their lives. As people become familiar to us, we like them more, and it's completely unconscious.
Be open to a broader range of people.
You have spent a lifetime narrowing your social circle to those you really care about, but the chances are you're not going to meet new best friends in your new area instantly. When it comes to friendships, having close friends is one of the best things we can do for our health and well being. But even having brief interactions with people in general benefits us.__4__
Don't despair.
Remember to maintain pre existing friendships, so that you're not feeling lonely and disconnected while developing new relationships.__5__ But people don't realize that if they put themselves out there, the process can go faster than they think. It really makes a difference if you're willing to attend different events; you can really change your social life.
A.Make a public appeal.
B.Put some work in before you move.
C.Quality is best, but quantity still does something.
D.It can take a long time to build up new friendships.
E.But now the pandemic has made it harder to connect with strangers.
F.It doesn't necessarily mean you made the wrong decision on the move.
G.We tend to think friendships happen naturally, but that's a huge misconception.
Passage 2
The Human Library has been working to encourage a sense of shared humanity for almost two decades. It is quite different from traditional libraries.__1__ You can review your perspective with the help of borrowed human books.
The Human Library is an association which attempts to create respect and understanding for the diversity in society through efforts. __2__ In this place, people who otherwise would never meet or talk can find room for conversation.
As its website details, the library hosts weekly events in local communities. The volunteers,“human books”, welcome members of the public to come and talk to them. __3__
Ronni Abergel is the founder of the library.__4__ As his idea has spread like a bestseller, the library has hosted events in more than 80 countries, in libraries, museums, festivals and schools. It has more than 1,000 human books in circulation in more than 50 languages, with especially strong presence in American cities such as Chicago and San Francisco.
__5__ They have served as a timely way to reach out to scores of people stuck at home, and fearful of being too close to strangers. Being a book in the library is more than what you expect and is something you will never forget. It is also an opportunity to meet a lot of people that are different from you and yet you will find you share a lot in common.
A.It creates a safe space for dialogue.
B.His ambition is to build a high tech library.
C.COVID 19 has led to many virtual events as well.
D.This library allows people to start an online conversation.
E.He just wants to get the whole world listening and talking.
F.Here, various questions are expected, appreciated and answered.
G.At this library, you can “borrow” people for a conversation instead of books.
Passage 3
It seems like some people are born with a good sense of direction while others are always getting lost.__1__ You can improve your sense of direction. You just need to work at it. Nowadays, of course, it's convenient to rely on GPS rather than commit a long, complex route to memory.__2__ Studying a larger map and remembering the route before you set out does have its benefits. The amount of mental energy it requires means it's more likely to stick in your mind. Looking at digital maps on a big screen or even studying a paper map also allows you to get a sense of the all important bigger picture and how places fit together.
__3__ It's also important to notice what's around you in all directions. Instead of staring straight ahead, make sure you look up, down and behind you as well. This will be particularly useful when you're doing the journey in reverse(反向)—even if it's just finding your way back from the toilet in a restaurant. Another tip Taking photographs or writing notes at key locations can help you keep them in your memory.
Finally, try to relax when you're on unfamiliar ground. __4__ But this sudden anxiety will only prevent you from calmly working out which way to go. Besides, getting lost is one of the best ways to discover new places and add more details to that ever growing mental map, both of which will help you have a better sense of direction in the long term.
Your sense of direction is a use it or lose it skill. If you only stick to the routes you already know, it's never going to get any better.__5__
A.Don't just look where you're going.
B.So now it's time to start exploring!
C.If you're one of the “lost” ones, don't worry.
D.Anxiety plays a role in our sense of direction, too.
E.It's all too easy to get anxious if you suspect you may be lost.
F.Developing a good sense of direction usually takes much practice.
G.But ignore it if you really want to improve your sense of direction.
Passage 4
Want a relaxing but fun challenge at home?__1__ Puzzles have been around for more than 250 years and the challenge of working out where each piece goes and carefully recreating the scene on the box lid can keep you busy for hours, days or even weeks.
Puzzles come in a huge range of sizes and difficulty levels. For beginners, a 100 piece puzzle is usually a good starting point. __2__ Try grouping pieces with the same colour or design because they will probably go in the same area once the puzzle takes shape.
__3__ Those pieces are easier to find because they have a straight side. Stay patient as you search through pieces and try to make them fit together. You may not find any connecting pieces for ages but then several may suddenly appear.
For a real test, puzzles that have 1,000 pieces or more are a tough task and it's best to complete them with friends or family if you can. Choosing a scene that interests you, such as a favourite film, sport or location, can help keep you interested and determined to work to the final piece. You can get fun educational puzzles, too.__4__
Some of the best places to pick up puzzles are charity shops. They're often on sale for less than 5.Once you have completed a puzzle, it's nice to exchange it with a friend.__5__ You just upload an image, such as a family scene, and they will make a puzzle from it and post it to you. It makes a lovely and unusual present.
A.So others can have a go.
B.You can't beat a good puzzle.
C.Some companies make personalised puzzles.
D.However, a good start doesn't always lead to a good result.
E.Most people like to start by getting the four edges of a puzzle laid out.
F.It can get you used to sorting out how the shapes, patterns and colours go together.
G.For example, you may try a map of the world, historical timelines or the periodic table.
Passage 5

__1__ He is a Cornell University sociologist who surveyed more than 2,000 adults and found that from 1985 to 2010, the number of truly close friends has dropped even though we're socializing as much as ever. On average, participants listed 2 close friends in his survey. __2__“These are the people you think of as your real friends, your go to people if you need something,” Brashears said.
Brashears asked people online from a database called Time sharing Experiments for the Social Sciences to list the names of people with whom they had discussed “important matters” over the previous six months.48 percent of participants listed one close friend when asked, 28 percent listed two and 19 percent listed more.__3__ He reported the results in the journal SocialNetworks.
__4__ Brashears said his survey can't tell us conclusively (确凿地), but his guess is that while we meet just as many people as we used to, we sort them differently.
Does that suggest we're more isolated in these times when we seem to meet more people online than in person Social scientists say social media may actually be healthy for us. Keith Hampton from the University of Pennsylvania wrote a report.“Internet, or social media users have more close relationships than other people. They get more overall social support than other people.__5__”wrote Hampton in his blog post.

5.B 解析 空格处是本段主题句,空格后说“A range of motion is another huge aspect of sports and is another area where yoga can help.”,因此本段主要讲的是“瑜伽可以增加运动范围”。B项概括本段主题,符合语境,可作为主题句。
Passage 10
【语篇导读】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍大笑对我们的身心有好处,并列举了三个具体的益处。
1.G 解析 上文“Laughter Online University found that children laugh 300 to 400 times on an average, whereas adults laugh only 17.5 times in a day.”说明儿童每天大笑的次数比成年人多;下文“But if you still don’t know why you should laugh, here are some benefits of laughter for you.”说明大笑是有好处的,空处应说明成年人笑得少,会有坏处。G项“难怪我们成年人会遭受焦虑等心理问题”符合题意。
2.A 解析 上文“Reduce stress”说明大笑的好处之一是可以减少压力。A项中“a powerful stress killer”是关键词,A项符合题意。
3.E 解析 上文“Just laughing together made us come closer.”说明大笑会有助于保持紧密的关系。E项中friendship是关键词,大笑可以帮助珍惜友谊,E项符合题意。
4.B 解析 上文“Have you ever experienced that when you laugh at a fearful situation, you feel more courage and confidence ”说明作者在问别人是否经历过这样的情况。下文应说明作者的个人经历,故选B项。
5.F 解析 由上文“Hopefully, the information that you have received...needs to be included into more and more meals.”和下文“Some simple preparation work ahead of time can certainly help you out in a significant way here.”可知,下文讲通过做一些简单的准备工作,有助于把鱼添加到饮食中,说明把鱼纳入饮食中并不困难,承接上下文。F项“此外,这样做并不一定很困难。”切题。
