Last month, a group of university student volunteers from Wuhan, Hubei province, arrived at the home of a couple who have been married for more than 60 years.
The group was taking part in a programme launched in 2015 aimed at helping elderly couples fulfill their dreams of having special wedding photos taken. Zhang, 20, a freshman at Wuhan University of Engineering Science, is among the students taking part in the institution’s volunteer project, Dream Fulfillment Plan.
The project’s founder, Yu Jinwen, 35, a teacher at Wuhan University of Engineering Science, said that as of last month, the volunteers had taken wedding photos for more than 1,000 couples. They also interviewed their subjects and recorded their love stories.
The project was inspired by Yu’s regret at not having a good photo of his grandfather, who died in 2010. The family searched hard but was unable to find a quality shot. In desperation, Yu had to use the photo on his grandfather’s ID card as a portrait. In 2014, Yu led students applying to launch a volunteer service project, and came up with the idea of taking good photographs for the elderly free of charge.
“When these couples were young, there was no opportunity to take wedding photos. We can help them by taking special shots to bring back good memories of their younger days,” Yu said. Initially, he found it difficult to acquire wedding dresses and photographic equipment. However, one of his former classmates, who owned a wedding photography company in Wuhan, donated more than 70 secondhand wedding dresses to the project. Yu formed the first team, which consisted of 15 volunteers.
The project, which has grown over the years, now comprises 13 groups with a total of 590 volunteers. They have worked in 356 communities and rural areas across 43 cities in 13 provinces nationwide, gaining recognition and appreciation for their work. In 2021, the project won the silver prize at the sixth Chinese Youth Volunteer Service Project Competition.

As we know, queues (队列) have always been related to the theme park experience. Disliked by many, attractions do their best to stop them from having a bad influence on the guest experience. However, queues remain a necessity for gated attractions with popular rides.
The most obvious problem with queues is that they waste time, and for guests, wasting their limited time during their visit leads to a poor experience. For attraction operators, queues can be a letdown too. Even though long queues might be a sign that business is good, the more time guests spend tied up in long lines, the less opportunity they have to spend money on on-site retail and food offerings.
Thankfully, technology is developing to meet changing guest expectations. Many theme parks are taking guests out of physical queues and putting them into virtual queues through an app or wearable device.
Free from queues, guests are likely to spend their time and money far more freely around the attraction. Even though no one has to wait in line, attractions can still offer queue upgrades within a virtual queue system. According to a recent survey done by Attractions.io, over 84% of theme park visitors said they would rather use virtual queuing.
But queuing isn’t all bad, either. Making a queue part of the experience can also create an opportunity for better guest management. For example, Disney observes queues on many of their rides to give worried kids a space to relax. For smaller attractions, physical queues can be useful for judging how busy different rides are likely to be.
So to queue or not to queue We say, why not both. In an ideal world, every attraction will have both virtual and physical queues. While virtual queuing can ensure that no one has to stand in line for hours, not every ride will need one. Short physical queues may still work for smaller or less popular rides, which guests can even enjoy while they wait in line virtually for another ride.
8. What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 1 refer to
A. Guests. B. Queues.
C. Attractions. D. Experiences.
9. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. The disadvantages of physical queuing.
B. The changing ways of queuing in theme parks.
C. The influence of physical queuing on attractions.
D. Guest expectations for theme park queue systems.
10. What did the Attractions.io survey find
A. Virtual queuing actually saves people’s money.
B. Most attractions find virtual queue systems helpful.
C. A majority of theme park visitors prefer to wait online.
D. Virtual queuing allows people to make the most of their time.
11. What does the author think of virtual queuing
A. It will replace physical queuing.
B. It isn’t good for guest management.
C. It isn’t useful for less popular rides.
D. It should coexist with physical queuing.
B 9. A 10. C 11. D
由第一段中“As we know, queues (队列) have always been related to the theme park experience. Disliked by many, attractions do their best to stop them from having a bad influence on the guest experience. (正如我们所知,队列一直与主题公园的体验有关。许多景点都不喜欢队列,景点会尽最大努力阻止them对游客体验产生不良影响)”可知,队列一直与主题公园的体验有关,所以景点会尽最大努力阻止排队对游客体验产生不良影响,划线词指代“Queues”。故选B项。
【9题详解】
主旨大意题。由第二段“The most obvious problem with queues is that they waste time, and for guests, wasting their limited time during their visit leads to a poor experience. For attraction operators, queues can be a letdown too. Even though long queues might be a sign that business is good, the more time guests spend tied up in long lines, the less opportunity they have to spend money on on-site retail and food offerings. (排队最明显的问题是浪费时间,而对于客人来说,在参观期间浪费有限的时间会导致糟糕的体验。对于景点运营商来说,排队也会让人失望。尽管排长队可能表明生意不错,但客人排长队的时间越多,他们在现场零售和食品上花钱的机会就越少)”可知,第二段主要讲现实排队的缺点。故选A项。
由第四段中“According to a recent survey done by Attractions.io, over 84% of theme park visitors said they would rather use virtual queuing. (根据Attractions.io最近的一项调查,超过84%的主题公园游客表示他们更愿意使用虚拟排队)”可知,Attractions.io调查发现大多数主题公园游客更喜欢在网上排队等候。故选C项。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。由最后一段“So to queue or not to queue We say, why not both. In an ideal world, every attraction will have both virtual and physical queues. While virtual queuing can ensure that no one has to stand in line for hours, not every ride will need one. Short physical queues may still work for smaller or less popular rides, which guests can even enjoy while they wait in line virtually for another ride.
D
Scientists at the University of Washington (UW) have come up with an unusual way to help farmers get information about the plants in their fields.
Farmers already use drones (无人机) to collect information about their crops. But they can only fly for 10 to 20 minutes, and can only travel for a few miles. Last year, the team at UW showed off “RoboFly”, a tiny robot that weighed as much as a toothpick and could fly. But it can’t fly far at all and it needs a laser (激光) for power. So the scientists began to think about things that already knew how to fly, which led them to the bumblebees (大黄蜂) that fly all day. Compared to many flying insects, bumblebees are so large and strong as to fly carrying almost as much as their own weight.
The UW scientists created a special device with sensors, a small battery, and a way of storing tiny amounts of information. This “backpack” weighs about as much as seven grains of dry rice.
To track the bee, the scientists send radio signals from several spots along the edges of the field where the bee is. The tiny computer on the bee’s back uses the strength of the signals to figure out where it is. The backpack records information about the temperature and light. When the bee return s home at the end of the day, a device can wirelessly download the information the bee has collected. Another device can wirelessly recharge the backpack’s battery.
In the UW experiment, the scientists cooled the bumblebees down so that they stopped moving, and then glued the backpacks onto the bees. But it would be difficult for farmers to do the same thing for hundreds of bumblebees. Besides, bumblebees don’t live long — about a month. Farmers would need to be careful as the bees got older, otherwise the trackers could die while they are out in the field, leaving the electronic litter behind.
12. What is the disadvantage of drones and RoboFly
A. They cost much. B. They need charging. C. They can’t travel long. D. They aren’t strong.
13. What does the backpack on the bee do
A. Send radio signals. B. Guide the bee home.
C. Collect crops’ situations. D. Exchange the battery.
14. What challenge do the farmers face when using the “backpacks”
A. Putting them on the bees more effectively. B. Making sure the bees live much longer.
C. Recycling the electronic litter on time. D. Making them cheaper and cheaper.
15. Which is the best title for the text
A. Bees Work Better Than Drones and RoboFly B. Scientists Invent Bee Robots to Help Farmers
C. Bees Tell Farmers How Crops Get Along D. Scientists Make Sensors Bees Can Wear
C 13. C 14. C 15. B
根据第二段中“But they can only fly for 10 to 20 minutes, and can only travel for a few miles. (但它们只能飞行10到20分钟,只能飞行几英里)”以及“But it can’t fly far at all and it needs a laser (激光) for power.(但它不能飞得太远,而且需要激光作为动力)”可知,无人机和RoboFly的缺点是不能长途飞行。
根据第三段“The UW scientists created a special device with sensors, a small battery, and a way of storing tiny amounts of information. This ‘backpack’ weighs about as much as seven grains of dry rice. (华盛顿大学的科学家们发明了一种特殊的设备,它有传感器、一个小电池和一种存储微量信息的方法。这个‘背包’的重量大约相当于七粒干米)”和第四段中“The backpack records information about the temperature and light. When the bee return s home at the end of the day, a device can wirelessly download the information the bee has collected.(这个背包记录了温度和光线的信息。当蜜蜂在一天结束的时候回到家,一个设备可以无线下载蜜蜂收集的信息)”可知,蜜蜂身上的背包是用来收集庄稼的情况的。故选C项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Besides, bumblebees don’t live long — about a month. Farmers would need to be careful as the bees got older, otherwise the trackers could die while they are out in the field, leaving the electronic litter behind. (此外,大黄蜂寿命不长——大约一个月。随着蜜蜂年龄的增长,农民需要小心,否则追踪器可能会在它们外出时停止运转,留下电子垃圾)”可知,农民在使用“背包”时面临的挑战是需要及时回收电子垃圾。故选C项。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,根据第一段“Scientists at the University of Washington (UW) have come up with an unusual way to help farmers get information about the plants in their fields. ____17____
In a study reported by Popular Science, 48 percent of participants thought soda in a blue glass was more thirst-quenching (解渴的) than that served in glasses of other colors, probably because they connected blue with cold. Colors such as red and orange can make people feel warmer. Although it’s not unheard of, red is a less common color for airplane seats. ____18____
It is a universally well-liked color.
____19____ It’s a universal color that’s appealing to most. This is also the same reason why many brands have blue logos. People universally connect the color with positive things — such as clean water and blue skies — so they tend to like it. Across ages and across cultures, it’s the world’s favorite color.
The right shade hides stains (污渍) well.

上文“Color psychology plays an important role in selecting the fabric for airplane seats. “The idea is to help passengers feel at home, with relaxing colors and restful designs,” explained Shelly Zundell in a Boeing press release. (色彩心理学在飞机座椅面料的选择中起着重要作用。Shelly Zundell在波音公司的新闻稿中解释道:“这个想法是为了让乘客有宾至如归的感觉,采用轻松的颜色和宁静的设计。)”讲色彩心理学在飞机座位的布料的选择上起到了重要作用,使用让人放松的颜色和设计可以让乘客感到宾至如归,下文“Blue is a calming color that suggests peace, calmness, and relaxation. (蓝色是一种平静的颜色,表示平静、镇静和放松)”则指出了蓝色是一种令人平静的颜色,让人感到安宁、镇静和放松,可得出某些颜色会带给人某种感觉,该空应该承接上下文讲人们会把某些颜色和感觉联系在一起,讲E选项“人们经常把某些颜色与某些感觉联系起来。”切合语境。故选E项。
【17题详解】
该空选取小标题,需总结下文。由下文“In a study reported by Popular Science, 48 percent of participants thought soda in a blue glass was more thirst-quenching (解渴的) than that served in glasses of other colors, probably because they connected blue with cold. Colors such as red and orange can make people feel warmer. Although it’s not unheard of, red is a less common color for airplane seats. 故选A项。
由上文“Colors such as red and orange can make people feel warmer. Although it’s not unheard of, red is a less common color for airplane seats. (红色和橙色等颜色可以让人感到温暖。虽然这并非闻所未闻,但红色在飞机座椅上并不常见)”可知,红色和橙色会让人感觉更温暖,这种颜色的座位很少见,F选项“登机时感到热对任何人都没有好处。”承接上文,解释了为什么飞机上座位的颜色通常不是红色或橙色的原因。故选F项。
【19题详解】
由小标题“It is a universally well-liked color. (这是一种广受欢迎的颜色)”可知,本段主要说明了一个事实——蓝色是大家普遍喜欢的颜色,下文“It’s a universal color that’s appealing to most. (蓝色是一种对大多数人都很有吸引力的通用颜色)”提到蓝色是对大部分人都具有吸引力的一种普遍存在的颜色,G选项“很难找到对蓝色强烈反感的人。”符合本段主旨。故选G项。
【20题详解】
由上文“Imagine how many people sit in them per day. (想象一下,每天有多少人坐在里面)”可知,作者让我们想象一下每天有多少人坐在飞机座位上,下文“Darker shades are better at hiding stains and don’t show their wear as easily. Those dark blue seats will look fresher and newer for longer.

Li Hua
Dear fellow students,
Due to the cold winter and the pressure in study, many students live a sitting-too-long life. Lack of exercise can cause illness and low efficiency.
To stay active and lead a healthy life, I strongly advocate some simple and practical approaches to exercise. Instead of intense workouts or sports, just focus on small bursts of activities in the daily routine. For example, during class breaks, get out of the seat, do some quick stretches, or walk around to speed up the blood flowing. Another good idea is taking advantage of PE lessons to run, and play basketball, football or badminton, to get refueled and refreshed.
My fellow students, you see, small exercise doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming, but it makes a big difference to our good health and productivity. Stay active and stay healthy. Let’s act now!

The project was inspired by Yu’s regret at not having a good photo of his grandfather who died in 2010.

11. What does the author think of virtual queuing
A. It will replace physical queuing.
B. It isn’t good for guest management.
C. It isn’t useful for less popular rides.
D. It should coexist with physical queuing.
