第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Looking for a new poetry book to read I’ve got you! We’re going to explore some of my favorite poetry collections, which range from the traditional all the way to the totally experimental. And though they differ in terms of tone and subject matter, they’ve got all we call “good parts”.
Night Sky with Exit Wounds by Ocean Vuong
It is the first poetry collection from Ocean Vuong. Vuong’s style is well-suited to the heavy subjects he pursues, particularly when he reflects on the loss of his father and his experiences as a wartime refugee. There’s a certain wonderful quality to his writing.
Lunch Poems by Frank O’Hara
If you like a conversational style, Lunch Poems might be the poetry book for you. Personal, funny, and easy, the collection perfectly shows the casual voice of Frank O’Hara, an outstanding figure of the New School Movement in late 1950s’ New York. As the name suggests, most of the poems were written during his lunch break at work, bringing a realistic image by the writing.
100 Selected Poems by E. E. Cummings
It’s a shame that more people don’t take EE Cumming s seriously. Yes, his poetry is sometimes experimental. Unconcerned with “rules”, Cummings tried to capture emotion in its own form.
The Complete Poems by Elizabeth Bishop
In my opinion, any kind of fantastic poetry books must include Elizabeth Bishop. Highly skilled and highly influential, Bishop was one of the most powerful voices of the 20th century. She mostly worked within traditional forms, but the forms led to surprising effects, mixing classic styles with modern ones.
21.Who experienced a war
A.Elizabeth Bishop. B.E. E. Cummings. C.Frank O’Hara. D.Ocean Vuong.
22.Which poetry collection may reflect the routine life
A.Night Sky with Exit Wounds. B.Lunch Poems.
C.100 Selected Poems. D.The Complete Poems.
23.What does the author think of Elizabeth Bishop’s poetry
A.It is abstract. B.It is funny. C.It is surprising. D.It is excellent.

Growing up in Saudi Arabia, 44-year-old photographer Jody MacDonald has always had a strong interest in the desert. “I have always wanted to spend some time in the Sahara,” MacDonald said. “There are still so many unexplored areas in the Sahara Desert. These relatively unexplored places are so rare these days and hold the very fundamentals of exploration, which attract me. So finally I made the journey.” MacDonald started her journey in Mauritania’s capital city Nouakchott, and headed inland where she and her team jumped on the world’s longest cargo train(货运列车) for a 435-mile journey on the Mauritania Railway. “The train was dirty and uncomfortable but it was such an interesting and unique way to travel through the vast desert by train,” said MacDonald.
MacDonald and her group had to face many challenges on their journey. Except for the dirt and discomfort, the travellers also had to deal with the intense heat, violent winds and even dangerous sandstorms. “I was out taking photographs and within minutes, the wind increased to more than 100 miles an hour,” MacDonald said. “I thought my skin was going to be torn off because of the rain and blowing sand. It felt like sandpaper on my skin. I have never experienced winds that strong before. There was once a time when I wanted to give up.”
She dealt with the harsh(恶劣的) conditions by trying not to travel in the middle of the day and wore headscarves to protect herself from the sun and blowing sand. “The weather definitely dictates when and where you travel,” said MacDonald. Even with all the challenges, the photographer managed to record amazing images of the beautiful but harsh landscapes of Mauritania, and its fascinating cultures and communities.
24.Why did MacDonald tour the Sahara Desert
A.She grew up in Saudi Arabia. B.She intended to be a famous woman.
C.She had a strong interest in travelling alone. D.She was attracted by the unexplored places in it.
25.How did MacDonald feel on the cargo train
A.Unclean and painful. B.Unique and relaxed.
C.Comfortable and interested. D.Excited and unforgettable.
26.What made MacDonald once decide to give up her journey
A.The sandpaper on her skin. B.The difficult weather conditions.
C.The dangerous animals. D.The harsh criticism.
27.What does the underlined word “dictates” in the last paragraph mean
A.Determines. B.Allows. C.Ignores. D.Postpones.
C
“In high school, I decided to stop eating meat. I love animals. I couldn’t see them suffering,” Babulski says, who is a biologist at Monroe Community College in New York. Teenage Babulski initially lived on starches(淀粉食物) and salads. Eventually she learned to eat a more balanced vegetarian(素食者的) diet. But, Babulski remembers, her mum still wished she’d give up the madness. Mum thought she was going to straight up die.
The decision by Babulski and others to go vegetarian can be threatening to those who view eating animals as typically American. Eating meat is the norm in the United States, even though medical experts have long encouraged people to eat less processed and red meat for health reasons. What is becoming clear is that a meat-heavy diet is also terrible for the planet.
Shifting demand from meat to beans, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and nuts could have many benefits for the climate. A more recent April report from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the IPCC, suggests that the world’s wealthiest individuals could greatly decrease emissions(排放) through lifestyle changes. That’s because households with incomes in the top 10 percent produce roughly 36 to 45 percent of global emissions, while households with incomes in the bottom 50 percent contribute just 13 to 15 percent. Therefore, wealthier individuals, who adopt a low-carbon lifestyle, can help establish new, more sustainable social norms.
Babulski learned about the environmental impacts of meat production. She now shares her personal journey with students in her environmental science course. Many of her students come to realize the power of their individual choices. The little things they do actually do add up and make a difference.
28.Why did Babulski’s mother object to her becoming a vegetarian
A.She was a meat lover. B.She felt threatened.
C.She was worried about her health. D.She misunderstood her.
29.What do most Americans think of a meat-heavy diet
A.It can cause health problems. B.It is a personal lifestyle.
C.It is an essential part of their life. D.It is harmful to the environment.
30.Who plays a key role in reducing emissions according to the IPCC’s April report
A.The wealthy people. B.The factories.
C.The government. D.The low-income families.
31.What is the attitude of most of Babulski’s students towards her diet
A.Uninterested. B.Neutral. C.Supportive. D.Critical.
D
As we enjoy the summer ocean waves along the beaches, we may think nervously about Steven Spielberg’s Jaws and the great fear that sharks inspire in us.
Yet we are happy to see global efforts to protect the declining number of sharks. The world has realized that we need the species, like sharks, to keep a balanced ecosystem. Sharks, in particular, are “in” these days. Thanks to good public policy and famous stars such as Jackie Chan and Ang Lee, killing sharks for fin(鳍) soup is no longer cool.
The demand for shark fi ns has been rising for decades, threatening sharks with extinction (灭绝)—up to 100 million sharks are killed each year just for their fins. But we have started to reverse the trend(趋势), particularly in many areas of the United States and overseas where restaurants once proudly provided delicious shark fins on the menu.
In California, a ban on the sale and possession of shark fin soup has gone into effect this year through the efforts of Wild Aid and other organizations. Overseas marketing and public efforts featuring posters on public transportation systems and TV ads have been underway for the past few years. These efforts all show signs of success, on both the supply side and the demand side of trade in shark fins.
Actually, stopping the killing of sharks is part of a broader movement to stop the killing of wild animals and the buying and selling of wildlife products. These products come from hunting elephants, tigers and rhinos, besides killing sea life. Whether it is shark fi n soup or ivory piano keys, killing animals is big business. The hunting of elephants in search of ivory tusks for luxury(奢侈的) goods has become a war. The decrease of African elephant populations is alarming. Together with international partners, the United States is leading the worldwide effort to reduce demand for high-end products that rely on killing animals.
32.Why do people begin to make efforts to protect the declining number of sharks
A.Sharks are friends of humans.
B.Sharks don’t attack people any more.
C.We need sharks to keep a balanced ecosystem.
D.We can’t enjoy the summer ocean waves without sharks.
33.What’s the main reason for killing sharks
A.Just for fun. B.Just for their fins.
C.For their delicious meat. D.For the restaurants’ development.
34.Who helped California decide to ban the sale and possession of shark fin soup
A.Wild Aid and other organizations. B.Jackie Chan.
C.Ang Lee. D.Steven Spielberg.
35.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.The hunting of elephants in search of ivory tusks.
B.Demand for high-end products that rely on killing animals.
C.Products coming from hunting elephants, tigers and rhinos.
D.The global movement to protect wildlife and stop the trade of wildlife products.

Liam, a fifth-grader, moved with his mum for a new apartment in a relatively cheaper area of the city after his father’s unexpected death, and began attending a neighbourhood school.
Since he was an introvert(内向的人), the thought of making friends always made him feel nervous, and moving into a new neighbourhood meant he had to face his fears. On his first day, he didn’t talk to anyone or try to make friends, and during the mealtime, he sat at the corner table in the cafeteria and ate his lunch alone. No one in the class stepped forward to welcome him. Instead, they ignored him and refused to sit next to him in class.
The next day, he was sitting alone in the classroom when a boy approached him and asked, “Can I sit next to you ”
“Sure,” Liam smiled.
“I’m Joel. And you ”
“Liam.”
“Is it your first day today ”
“No, it’s my second day. I recently moved into this neighbourhood.”
“Oh, I didn’t know that. I skipped(逃避) school yesterday, so I thought it was your first day today.”
As days passed, Liam and Joel discovered that they lived on the same street. After school, they often played catch in the nearby park, a game they both loved playing. It only took Liam a few weeks to become best friends with Joel.
One day, Joel skipped school, and Liam had to sit alone in class, wondering why. Feeling worried, he went to ask his class teacher.
“Liam, I’m so sorry, but your best friend got into an accident last night,” the teacher put her hand on Liam’s shoulder. “He lost his parents in the car crash.”
“Oh no!” Liam covered his face with his hands.
Two months later, Joel was allowed to go home after a spinal(脊柱的) surgery. However, he couldn’t walk and was restricted to a wheelchair. The day he arrived home with his grandmother, Liam rushed to Joel’s house with a candy bar and the ball they used to play catch with.
Joel’s eyes lit upon seeing Liam. The boys talked to each other for hours before Liam’s mother came to pick him up at night.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
While he was happy to see his friend after months, he felt terrible knowing Joel could never walk again. Ten days later, Liam asked Joel to play catch with him outside and he agreed.

第一节
One possible version:
Like any other English learner, I met a lot of difficulties in learning English.
First, I found it difficult to understand what I read because most English words have more than one meaning. Besides, I found it difficult to write in idiomatic English or put Chinese into idiomatic English.
But I didn’t lose heart in removing these obstacles. I tackled English vocabulary in two ways. First, I tried to understand and memorize the specific meaning of a word that appeared in the context. Second, I enlarged my vocabulary by learning the dictionary by heart. In this way, I have made rapid progress in English.
As long as the method is right, we can overcome any difficulty in our study.
第二节
One possible version:
While he was happy to see his friend after months, he felt terrible knowing Joel could never walk again. Moreover, seeing his elderly grandma struggle to push the wheelchair made Liam feel even worse. “Mum, I feel so bad for Joel,” he told his mother at the dinner table later that evening. “I can understand, sweetheart. But you don’t have to feel sad. You can help your friend adjust to his new lifestyle and make him feel better. Pitying him would make him feel worse.” Liam nodded and decided to try his best to help his good friend.
Ten days later, Liam asked Joel to play catch with him outside and he agreed. However, when the boys started playing, Joel was missing most of the catches since he couldn’t run around. Later that night, Liam thought of all the ways he could help Joel and then realized the best option was to buy an electric wheelchair. Liam was thinking hard when he came up with an idea of setting up a charity contest at school to raise funds. To his delight, many teachers, students and their parents took part in the contest. The money in the donation box was enough to buy Joel the latest electric wheelchair. Thanks to it, Liam and Joel continued playing catch and Joel even attended school.

(Text 1)
M: What did you do last Saturday, Mary
W: Oh, John and I drove to a mountain village and had a picnic there. How about you
M: I worked the whole day in my office.
(Text 2)
M: Can I encourage you to eat more food
W: Oh, Mr. Green, your cooking is amazing. I definitely could eat more, but if I had one more steak, I would have to run at least 3 miles to burn the extra calories.
(Text 3)
M: Would you like some candies I have a lot of extra, because my father works for this company. It has a fruity taste.
W: No, thank you. I do like the fruit flavour, but candy is bad for my teeth.
(Text 4)
M: Peter has been feeling down lately because his hair has started to become thinner.
W: I know. I saw him yesterday and he couldn’t stop trying to style it during the dinner.
M: I think he just needs to relax...
(Text 5)
M: Did you watch that comedy special on TV last night I don’t think I ever laughed so hard.
W: Don’t even talk to me about it. The only night I really wanted to watch something and we had a power failure in my building.
(Text 6)
M: Hey, Lily! Where are you going for university after you graduate
W: I like Australia, but I am too scared of spiders, so that’ s not an option. Right now I am thinking between the UK and the US. My sister is already in the US, but I have always wanted to study in the UK because of the architecture.
M: I think it is important to follow your heart.
W: Yes, that’s my decision. Architecture is the most important to me. Plus it also has my favourite basketball team.
(Text 7)
M: Hello, Miss. May I make an appointment with Dr. Clare
W: Could I have your name please
M: Randolph Black.
W: Got it. How about 7: 30 a. m. on Wednesday, the day after tomorrow or 1: 30 p. m. on Thursday
M: The latter one is better.
W: Do you mind telling me your phone number
M: Not at all. It’s 6350973.
W: OK. And what’s wrong with you
M: Well, to tell the truth, I fell from a ladder yesterday while painting my house and injured my ankle. I just felt a little bit painful at that time, so I didn’t pay too much attention to it. However, I found it became much worse this morning.
(Text 8)
M: I have to get my sister a graduation present. She loves clothes. What do you think about this coat It’s exactly her size.
W: Hmm, I would choose blue or black, but I guess brown is okay for her.
M: That’s what I thought. It’s the same colour as our school uniform. And the price is right.
W: How much is it
M: It’s only $ 30.
W: Well, that’s a great price, and the size is good, but what about the style
M: Hmm, you don’t like the style
W: No, I don’t like that style at all.
M: Yeah, I agree, but I’m going to get it anyway because the price is so good.
W: Okay, she’s your sister!
(Text 9)
M: Have you been sitting in front of that TV all day
W: Yes, sorry. I started watching a new TV show and now I can’t stop. The actors are not very popular, but their performances are perfect. You won’t feel bored for a second.
M: Well, why don’t you take a break and go for a walk
W: No, it’s raining outside. I don’t want to get wet. I’ll stay inside where it’s nice and warm.
M: Or you could wear a jacket and take an umbrella.
W: Why are you trying to get me out of the house
M: Because I want to finish my paper and I also need to clean the living room and your bedroom.
W: OK. Well, I’ll do the cleaning so that you can write.
M: That would be very helpful of you.
W: I was thinking that later on I could cook dinner for you as well, since you always cook for me.
M: But you’ve never cooked.
W: I know, but the TV show was about a restaurant and now I want to try.
M: OK. That would be lovely.
(Text 10)
There are plenty of mysteries of this planet. One of them that have been explained, however, is the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. The Bermuda Triangle is an area between three points in the Atlantic Ocean that create a triangle. It has been said that throughout history, many ships and boats have gone missing there, never to be found again. It was first mentioned by a famous explorer in the 1400s, who said he saw a“great ball of fire”in the ocean. It was again referred to by the famous writer Shakespeare in the 1600s, in one of his books. But it didn’t become a popular story until 1918, when an American ship disappeared in the area with 300 men on board. So why have there been all these reports of missing planes and ships Luckily, today we know the real answer. First, the area is well-known for stormy waters and bad weather. Second, many inexperienced sailors have gotten lost because of poor sailing equipment and the lack of fuel. And finally, accidents are common in the sea. So, if you are planning to take a boat ride through the area, just make sure to be safe!
