根据倒数第二段“Brown expertly balances between breathtaking adventure and unsettling ideas- not just happiness and sadness, but also, given the climate-change undercurrents, hope and despair.

根据第一段“Initial conversations can have a huge impact on how relationships develop over time. People are often stuck in the impressions they think they might have made the minute they finish speaking with someone for the first time: “Did they like me or were they just being polite ” “Were they deep in thought or deeply bored ”(最初的对话会对关系的发展产生巨大的影响。 以及第二段“To find out whether these worries are necessary, we have conducted nearly 10 years of research.(为了弄清楚这些担忧是否有必要,我们进行了近10年的研究)”可知,作者进行10年的研究是为了找出潜在的偏见。

根据最后一段“There are numerous strategies to minimize your biased feelings. One place to start is shifting your focus of attention. Try to direct your attention to your conversation partner, be genuinely curious about them, ask them more questions, and really listen to their answers. The more you’re zeroed in on the other person, and the less you’re focused on yourself, the better your conversation will be and the less your mind will turn to all the things you think you didn’t do well.(有很多策略可以减少你的偏见。
根据第三段“Time and time again, we found that people left their conversations with negative feelings about the impression they made. That is, people systematically underestimate how much their conversation partners like them and enjoy their company — a false belief we call the “liking gap”.(我们一次又一次地发现,人们在结束谈话时对自己留下的印象感到消极。
A 33. B 34. C 35. A
根据第一段“Building artificial intelligences that sleep and dream can lead to more dependable models, according to researchers who aim to mimic (模仿) the behavior of the human brain.(据旨在模仿人类大脑行为的研究人员称,构建睡眠和做梦的人工智能可以产生更可靠的模型)”可知,开发WSCL是为了帮助提高AI的可靠性。故选A。
根据第三段“Besides the usual training for the “awake” phase, models using WSCL are programmed to have periods of “sleep”, where they analyze awake data from earlier lessons.(除了通常的“清醒”阶段的训练之外,使用WSCL的模型还被编程为有“睡眠”阶段,在那里它们分析来自早期课程的清醒数据)”可知,使用WSCL的模型在“睡眠”期间处理之前的数据。
根据第五段“The researchers tested three AI models using a traditional training method, followed by WSCL training. Then they compared performances for image identification. The sleep-trained models were 2 to 12 percent more likely to correctly identify the contents of an image. They also measured an increase in how much old knowledge a model uses to learn a new task.(研究人员使用传统的训练方法测试了三个人工智能模型,然后进行了WSCL训练。
根据最后一段“Despite the results, Andrew Rogoyski at the University of Surrey, UK, says using the human brain as a blueprint isn’t necessarily the best way to boost AI performance. Instead, he suggests mimicking dolphins, which can “sleep” with one part of the brain while another part remains active. After all, an AI that requires hours of sleep isn’t ideal for commercial applications.(尽管取得了这些成果,英国萨里大学的安德鲁·罗戈伊斯基表示,使用人类大脑作为蓝图并不一定是提高人工智能性能的最佳方式。 故选A。

第二节
Possible version 1
Then, suddenly, the unexpected happened. Just as Michael looked nervously, and right in
the sight of everyone, Frank somehow tripped. Down he fell to the ground, sending all his
books flying and spreading out. Time standing still, everyone was taken aback by the
occurrence. Although Michael was just as shocked, his mind was racing—It was in a split
second that Ramon’s Grandma’s words popped into his mind, “You can catch more flies with
honey than vinegar.” He knew what to do. Barely had Frank gotten up with loads of
embarrassment when Michael went up.
Michael bent down and quickly picked up Frank’s books on the floor. After offering them
to him, Michael said with a smile, “You look like you could use an ally.” Now, it was Frank’s
turn to be frozen there with burning cheeks. Obviously, Michael’s response was way out of his
expectations. A flicker of gratitude crossed his face. He quickly took the books, murmured his
thanks and fled the scene. Out of the corner of his eye, Michael caught Ramon approaching
with a knowing smile and a thumbs-up. “Well, I guess that’s honey,” Michael grinned to him.
“And I hope it sticks.”
Possible version 2
Then, suddenly, the unexpected happened. Frank tripped over his own laces and fell to the
ground, scattering his books everywhere. The other students laughed as Frank struggled to pick
himself up, his face burning red with embarrassment. There was a moment when Michael
couldn’t believe his luck. For once, the tables had turned and it was Frank who was the one to
be awkward. He could have laughed and made fun of Frank, or, he could choose to help him
pick up his books. Quickly weighing the options a few seconds, he approached Frank.
Michael bent down and quickly picked up Frank’s books on the floor. When he handed the books over, Frank was stunned by the unexpected kindness and didn’t know what to say.
Michael gave him a quick smile and walked away, leaving Frank to ponder over his own
behavior. Gradually, the hostility in his eyes softened and gave way to gratitude. Meanwhile, a
smile bloomed on Michael’s face — he eventually found a way to deal with his “headache”.
From that day on, Frank never bothered him again. Michael had learned a valuable lesson –
kindness goes a long way in resolving conflicts. He did catch more flies with honey than with
vinegar.
