Born in Congo, Dieuveil grew up in Germany and began his career in some of Europe’s best establishments. He opened his restaurant Meza Malonga in 2020, where dinner is not just a meal but also a tour of the African continent. Delicately plated dishes feature the Nile perch from Uganda, Algerian olive oil, and Penja pepper from Cameroon. By combining ingredients and food cultures from different countries in Africa with some modern elements, Dieuveil has created his own cuisine that represents not only the heritage and traditions of a vast and varied, continent but also the latest trends. Undoubtedly, such integration has received international applause.
However, Dieuveil’s ambitions are not just for himself. After setting up the digital platform “Chefs in Africa”, which to date has connected over 4,000 professional chefs to career opportunities and the skill development, Dieuveil created a training school to produce the next generation of cooking pioneers. He is on a mission to lay the foundations of an innovative fine-dining scene on the African continent that can compare with Europe’s — but in a distinctive, African way.
When it comes to the understanding of fine dining, different from Europe’s emphasis on exclusivity and competitiveness, Dieuveil focuses more on integration. “If you want to go far, you must share with people,” he says. And his Afro-fusion cuisine has been shaped by this philosophy of sharing. To better understand the diverse traditions, dishes and ingredients of Africa, he went into villages and met with the grandmothers, as they’re usually the masters of amazing, old techniques. These villagers shared their local cuisine and family recipes, teaching Dieuveil regional fermentation (发酵) and preservation processes.
To ensure the quality of fresh produce, Dieuveil sources all his vegetables from his three-hectare organic farm in northern Rwanda, where he continues his “food revolution” by establishing the connection with remote and underserved communities, and involving more students coming from countries across Africa. He said, “Africa is the garden of the world and has an amazing diversity of food. What is happening now with African cuisine and the exposure we are getting are clear indications that our food revolution is already here.”
4. What makes Dieuveil’s cuisine a success
A. The fascinating mix of the old and the new.
B. The use of imported ingredients and cookers.
C. The balance of international and local flavors.
D. The fine dining environment and table setting.
5. Why did Dieuveil visit the villages in Africa
A. To share his philosophy.
B. To publicize his organic food.
C. To draw inspiration for his dishes.
D. To seek excellent cooks for his restaurant.
6. How does Dieuveil feel about the development of his food revolution
A. Amazed. B. Satisfied. C. Pessimistic. D. Concerned.
7. Which of the following can best describe Dieuveil
A. Ambitious and decent. B. Generous and responsible.
C. Talented and humorous. D. Creative and determined.
A 5. C 6. B 7. D

C
Sustainability was a hot topic at the Paris Air Show, the world’s largest event for the aviation industry, which faces increasing pressure to reduce the climate-changing greenhouse gases that aircraft emit. Even the massive orders at the show got an emission-reduction perspective: Airlines and producers said the new planes would be more fuel-efficient than the ones they replaced. However, most of those planes will burn conventional kerosene-based jet fuel.
Some companies are working on electric-powered aircraft, which are seen as a way to reduce the environmental effects of the aviation industry, providing zero emissions and quieter flights. However, they are still some way off from widespread commercial use. That means sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) has become the industry’s best hope of achieving its promise of net zero emissions by 2050. SAF, however, accounts for just 0.1% of all jet fuel. Made from sources like used cooking oil and plant waste, SAF can be mixed with conventional jet fuel but costs much more.
With such a limited supply of SAF, critics say airlines are making overly ambitious promises and exaggerating how quickly they can ramp up the use of SAF. The industry even has skeptics: Nearly one-third of aviation sustainability officers in a GE Aerospace survey doubt whether the industry will hit its net zero goal by 2050.
Across the Atlantic, a consumer group called BEUC filed a complaint against the European Union’s executive arm, accusing 17 airlines of greenwashing. The group says airlines are misleading consumers and breaking rules on commercial practices by encouraging customers to pay extra to help finance the development of SAF and offset future carbon emissions created by flying. In one case, the group’s researchers found Air France charging up to 138 euros for the green option.
“SAF is indeed the biggest technological potential to decarbonize the aviation sector, but the main problem is that it isn’t available. We know that before the end of the next decade — at least — it won’t be available in massive quantities,” said Dimitri Vergnc, a senior policy officer at BEUC.
8. What did airlines and producers emphasize at the Paris Air Show
A. Ways of reducing fuel consumption.
B. Improvement in planes’ safety performance.
C Environmental friendliness of their new planes.
D. Efficiency of conventional kerosene-based jet fuel.
9. Why does the author mention electric-powered aircraft
A. To stress the necessity of developing SAF.
B. To highlight the future of the aviation industry.
C. To show efforts made to achieve net zero emissions.
D. To explain their advantages over traditional aircraft.
10. What does the underlined part “ramp up” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Stop. B. Limit. C. Balance. D. Increase.
11. Where does the text most probably come from
A. An airline ad. B. A study result. C. A news report. D. A science paper.
C 9. A 10. D 11. C

根据文章第一段“Sustainability was a hot topic at the Paris Air Show, the world’s largest event for the aviation industry, which faces increasing pressure to reduce the climate-changing greenhouse gases that aircraft emit. Even the massive orders at the show got an emission-reduction perspective: Airlines and producers said the new planes would be more fuel-efficient than the ones they replaced.(可持续性是巴黎航展上的一个热门话题。巴黎航展是世界上最大的航空业盛会,航空业面临着越来越大的压力,要求减少飞机排放的导致气候变化的温室气体。即使是航展上的大量订单也从减排的角度出发:航空公司和制造商表示,新飞机将比他们取代的飞机更省油。)”可知,航空公司和制造商在在巴黎航展上强调了新飞机的环保性。故选C。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Some companies are working on electric-powered aircraft, which are seen as a way to reduce the environmental effects of the aviation industry, providing zero emissions and quieter flights. However, they are still some way off from widespread commercial use. That means sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) has become the industry’s best hope of achieving its promise of net zero emissions by 2050.(一些公司正在研究电动飞机,这被视为减少航空业对环境影响的一种方式,可以提供零排放和更安静的飞行。然而,它们离广泛的商业应用还有一段距离。这意味着可持续航空燃料(SAF)已成为航空业实现2050年净零排放承诺的最大希望。)”可知,作者提到电动飞机是为了强调可持续航空燃料(SAF)已成为航空业实现2050年净零排放承诺的最大希望。故选A。
根据划线单词的上一句“With such a limited supply of SAF, critics say airlines are making overly ambitious promises(在SAF供应如此有限的情况下,批评人士说,航空公司做出了过于雄心勃勃的承诺)”可推测,航空公司夸大了其增加SAF使用的速度,由此可知,划线单词和“增加”词义相似。
D
Recently, after I gave a virtual presentation on my book Indistractable, a listener wrote something in the Zoom chat that drove me crazy, “This is great but wouldn’t work for me. I’m a Gemini (双子星座的人).”
Ironically, the Zoom listener is right. If she thinks she’s incapable, she’ll prove it correct — whether it has anything to do with the stars and moon or not. Her inflexible self-identification denies her the chance to improve her life. It’s incredibly self-limiting.
That’s why we should stop defining ourselves as fixed identities and nouns, and instead start describing ourselves using verbs.
Words are powerful. Linguistic research shows that language shapes people and culture; it can also give us insight into ourselves and our behavior. In a well-known study, researchers Robert Rosenthal and Lenore Jacobsen had all students in the same elementary school take a standard IQ test. Then they randomly selected a group of students, regardless of their test results, and told teachers the group would show “dramatic intellectual growth”. Eight months later, those students scored significantly higher on an IQ test. The study concluded that teachers’ positive perception of students correlated to those students’ high performance on intellectual and academic tests. The labels the children received became a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy (预言).
That’s because language shapes expectations, which shape our reality. If we have experiences that lead us to label ourselves with specific nouns during our life, then we are likely to stick with those labels and the behaviors that go with them.
Using verbs to identify ourselves is an effective method for releasing “trapped priors”—a term in psychology for a perception of reality that’s affected or trapped by past experiences. Verbs are action words well suited to describing short-lived behaviors that can and do change. They don’t lay claim to our entire identity, but they acknowledge that we are people first and foremost, not whatever a singular noun may say we are. So, instead of saying, “I am a procrastinator (拖拉者)”, you should say, “I am a person who often procrastinates.”
By focusing on our behaviors, not fixed characteristics, we can release harmful perceptions of ourselves that hold us back from trying methods that might improve our lives — like those that can help us achieve the critical skill of being indistractable.
12. What does the author want to show through the example of the Zoom listener
A. The concept of flexible self-identification.
B. His confusion about the way to self-identify.
C. His understanding of proper self-identification.
D. The negative effects of using nouns to define oneself.
13. What does the well-known study imply
A. Self-fulfilling prophecies change over time.
B. Encouragement promotes students’ improvement.
C. Language usage will have an impact on teaching.
D. IQ has little to do with students’ academic performance.
14. How are teachers expected to evaluate students
A. By highlighting their behaviors.
B. By focusing on their advantages.
C. By analyzing their typical characteristics.
D. By assessing their academic performance.
15. Which can be the best title for the text
A. Nouns are more powerful than verbs
B. Your words can determine your future
C. How we define ourselves really counts
D. Our option of words reflects our identity
D 13. B 14. A 15. C
根据文章第二段“Ironically, the Zoom listener is right. If she thinks she’s incapable, she’ll prove it correct — whether it has anything to do with the stars and moon or not. Her inflexible self-identification denies her the chance to improve her life.
根据文章第四段“In a well-known study, researchers Robert Rosenthal and Lenore Jacobsen had all students in the same elementary school take a standard IQ test. Then they randomly selected a group of students, regardless of their test results, and told teachers the group would show “dramatic intellectual growth”. Eight months later, those students scored significantly higher on an IQ test. 【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“By focusing on our behaviors, not fixed characteristics, we can release harmful perceptions of ourselves that hold us back from trying methods that might improve our lives — like those that can help us achieve the critical skill of being indistractable.(通过关注我们行为,而不是固定的特征,我们可以释放对自己的有害看法,这些看法会阻止我们尝试可能改善我们生活的方法——比如那些可以帮助我们获得注意力不分散的关键技能的方法)”可知,文章认为通过关注我们的行为而不是固定的特征,我们可以摆脱那些阻碍我们尝试可能改善生活的方法的有害自我认知。 故选A。
根据文章第三段“That’s why we should stop defining ourselves as fixed identities and nouns, and instead start describing ourselves using verbs.(这就是为什么我们不应该把自己定义为固定的身份和名词,而应该开始用动词来描述自己)”以及全文内容可知,整篇文本主要讨论了我们是如何定义自己的,以及这种定义如何影响我们的行为和现实。
Recently, I sat in a lecture hall with a couple of hundred final-year undergraduate students. ____16____ When I was about to graduate, the future seemed unclear. I didn’t have a place on a company graduate programme like many of my classmates. Decades on, I realized that what seemed like obvious career ladders weren’t so simple.
In the UK at least, the job market for today’s graduates seems good. The annual report by the Institute of Student Employers found that graduate recruitment could increase by 5% in 2023-panies struggled to recruit in areas such as digital, engineering and finance. ____17____ — with an average of 86 applications for every opening.
____18____ The Chartered Institution of Personnel and Development’s good work survey found that only 35% of people said their job offered good opportunities for career advancement.
There are a few reasons why people find it difficult to advance on the career ladder. One of them many people struggle is that career ladders are becoming smaller. As large organizations have slimmed down, so have the internal paths for promotion. ____19____ As work gets outsourced to gig workers, there are few opportunities for developing new skills and stepping up.
Another issue is that increasing numbers of people just aren’t interested in climbing the ladder. The recent iteration of the world values survey found millennials and generation Z placed less value on work than they used to. A decade ago, 41% of millennials thought work should come first while that number is 14% today. ____20____
A. Despite this strong demand, each position was hotly contested.
B. Looking around, I thought about my own uncertainty at their age.
C. It seems many of us no longer see ourselves defined by our work.
D. Career setbacks such as unsuccessfully applying for a promotion are often painful.
E. Once today’s generation of graduates find a job, only some will find opportunities to advance.
F. This means careers have been replaced with jobs, and jobs have increasingly been replaced with tasks.
G. Like the students sitting in that lecture hall many of us only see a small portion of the paths for carcer development life might offer.

Decades on, I realized that what seemed like obvious career ladders weren’t so simple.(当我即将毕业时,未来似乎不明朗。
根据后文“The Chartered Institution of Personnel and Development’s good work survey found that only 35% of people said their job offered good opportunities for career advancement.(英国特许人事与发展协会的“好工作”调查发现,只有35%的人说他们的工作提供了良好的职业发展机会)”可知,后文的调查表明大部分人的工作没有提供良好的职业发展机会。
根据上文“There are a few reasons why people find it difficult to advance on the career ladder. One of them many people struggle is that career ladders are becoming smaller. As large organizations have slimmed down, so have the internal paths for promotion.(人们很难在职业阶梯上取得进步有以下几个原因。许多人纠结的一个问题是,职业阶梯越来越小。随着大型机构的瘦身,内部晋升渠道也在缩减)”可知,本句承接上文,说明大型机构的瘦身,内部晋升渠道也在缩减背后的意义。故F选项“这意味着职业已经被工作所取代,而工作也越来越多地被任务所取代”符合语境,故选F。
【20题详解】
根据上文“Another issue is that increasing numbers of people just aren’t interested in climbing the ladder. The recent iteration of the world values survey found millennials and generation Z placed less value on work than they used to. A decade ago, 41% of millennials thought work should come first while that number is 14% today.(另一个问题是,越来越多的人对往上爬不感兴趣。

It was a normal Friday. I got home from work. The routine of talking to my grandmother on the phone after a long workday was comforting. We always shared our thoughts and stories.
I dialed her number and waited but she did not answer. That was extremely unusual because she always answered—her phone was always by her side. I called again. “Pick up! Pick up!” I said to myself.
I knew rationally (理智地) she could be out or was away from the phone but as I dialed again and again, only getting her answering machine each time for over two hours, I began to panic. She lived alone. She only took short walks around the neighborhood.
Throwing all the reasons out of my mind, I called my sister and my father and told them that I thought something was wrong and that we needed to drive to my grandmother’s house to check on her. I was out the door before either of them could start much of an argument.
I picked them up and we headed toward 1-95. “She’s probably at neighbor’s house,” my father kept saying. “Maybe she’s sleeping,” my sister interrupted, but I just stepped on the gas and a half hour later we pulled into my grandmother’s driveway.
Her red brick apartment was completely closed off, the gate was shut, and the blinds were pulled down. Not a ray of light could be seen inside. Sensing that I was right and that something was clearly wrong, my father began pounding on the locked front door while I checked the back door.
Both were locked. My sister leaned on the doorbell and although she could hear the bell ringing, there was no other noise inside. I raced around the side of the house to look inside one of her windows, but the heavy blinds were shut tight.
My sister rushed over to the neighbor’s house to see if they had seen our grandmother, but they were out. The other house connected to my grandmother’s apartment sat empty. Not a person was around.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Frustration and anxiety came upon us.

Just then, my grandmother showed up with a dirty kitten.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Frustration and anxiety came upon us. Time seemed to slip through our fingers as we desperately sought any clue to my grandmother. My father, driven by a mix of concern and fear, decided to contact some of my grandmother’s close friends to ask if they had seen or heard from her recently. As he made the calls, the tension among us mounted up. One by one, the phone calls returned no useful information. The fear that had been overwhelming us all evening intensified.
Just then, my grandmother showed up with a dirty kitten. It turned out that when taking one of her leisurely walks around the neighborhood, she noticed a tiny, trembling ball of fur hiding under a bush. That apparently abandoned creature was so fearful that it took a long while for it to gradually accept my grandmother. That explained why she hadn’t been answering her phone. We were relieved to see her safe and sound. That evening took a heartwarming turn as we welcomed the new furry addition to our family, thanks to our grandmother’s sympathetic spirit.

D. Efficiency of conventional kerosene-based jet fuel.
9. Why does the author mention electric-powered aircraft
A. To stress the necessity of developing SAF.
B. To highlight the future of the aviation industry.
C. To show efforts made to achieve net zero emissions.
D. To explain their advantages over traditional aircraft.
10. What does the underlined part “ramp up” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Stop. B. Limit. C. Balance. D. Increase.
11. Where does the text most probably come from
A. An airline ad. B. A study result. C. A news report. D. A science paper.

A decade ago 41% of millennials thought work should come first while that number is 14% today. ____20____
G. Like the students sitting in that lecture hall, many of us only see a small portion of the paths for carcer development life might offer.
