At the Qatar 2022 World Cup, is there a Chinese soccer team No. But one can’t miss Chinese elements(元素) in and around the stadiums in this desert state. One can take a nap in a “mobile hotel” built by Chinese engineers, drink water from ponds dug by Chinese engineers, charge one’s mobile phone with electricity produced at the photovoltaic(光电的) power stations built by Chinese companies, and take a bus made in China to move between hotels and stadiums.
Did we forget something Yes, even some stadiums are built by Chinese companies, while the souvenirs(纪念品) one can buy there, too, are made in China.
That’s how China has taken part in this World Cup and earlier events, and may do so in the upcoming ones too: by providing products and services to the athletes and audiences alike, thus impressing the world with its technology and products.
While “Made in China” has left its stamp on earlier soccer World Cups and other sports events, what makes the Qatar World Cup unique is the kind of technology China is providing. For example, the Stadium 974, built by Chinese companies, is the first movable and redeployable(可重构体系的) “green stadium”. It can recycle rainwater for future use and turn the garbage collected from the stadium into fertilizer(肥料). Besides, China has built an 800 MW photovoltaic station that continually turns the rich sunshine in the Middle East into electricity for the stadium.
Another reason that has made it possible for Chinese firms to perform well in the World Cup is that China has achieved good economic growth despite a global economic slowdown. While the whole world suffers because of the COVID-19 pandemic and other reasons, Chinese companies have largely continued to function normally.
24.What’s the function of the first two paragraphs
A.To lead in the topic of the text.
B.To give an overview of the text.

D.To summarize the the main idea of the text.
25.What is special about China’s influence on the Qatar World Cup
A.The services offered are the best ever.
B.The products provided are of high quality.
C.The souvenirs are designed and made in China.
D.The technology employed are environmental-friendly.
26.What can the underlined phrase “has left its stamp on” in para 4 be replaced by
A.Has been the symbol of. B.Has become necessary for.
C.Has made contributions to. D.Has stood for.
27.Which can be a suitable title for the text
A.Qatar: A most successful World Cup
B.Economic growth in Qatar World Cup
C.Another World Cup without Team China
D.You can’t miss “China green” in Qatar

According to scientists, being kind to others can improve happiness. Acts as simple as buying a cup of coffee for someone can better a person’s mood (心情), for example. Every day life affords many chances for such actions, yet people do not always make use of them.
In a set of studies published online in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, Nick Epley, a behavioral scientist, and I examined a possible explanation. We found that people who perform random (随机的) acts of kindness do not always realize how much of an effect they are having on another person. People usually think little of how others value these acts.
Across our investigations, several results came out. For one, both givers and receivers of the acts of kindness were in more positive moods than usual after these exchanges. For another, it was clear that givers undervalued (低估) their effect; receivers felt much better than the kind givers expected. The receivers also really recognized these acts as “bigger” than the people performing them did.
At first, we studied acts of kindness done for familiar people, such as friends, classmates or family. But later we found that givers undervalued their positive effect on strangers as well. In one experiment, givers in a public park gave away hot chocolate to strangers on a cold winter’s day. Once again, the experience was more positive than the givers expected for the receivers. While the people giving the hot chocolate saw the act as unimportant, it really mattered to the receivers.
Our findings suggest that what might seem small to the givers could matter a great deal to the receivers. Since these warm acts can promote our own mood and brighten the day of another person, why not choose kindness when we can
28.What do givers seldom think about
A.Comments about their acts.
B.Effects of their acts on others.
C.Scientists’ explanation.
D.Taste of happiness.
29.What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 3 refer to
A.Investigations. B.Moods. C.Acts. D.Exchanges.
30.Why does the author mention “gave away hot chocolate to strangers” in paragraph 4
A.To prove a finding. B.To explain a rule.
C.To present a fact. D.To show a topic.
31.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.Warm Acts Are Usually Valued
B.Warm Acts Are Necessary For People
C.Kindness Can Unexpectedly Brighten Our Own Day
D.Kindness Can Have Unexpectedly Positive Results

Do you think dogs and cats can live in perfect harmony in the same home People who are thinking about adopting(收养) a dog as a friend for their cats are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found a new recipe of success. According to the study, if the cat is adopted before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly probable that the two pets will get along swimmingly. Two-thirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog.
However, it wasn’t all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression(侵略) and fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals(信号) were just opposite. For example, when a cat turns its head away it signals aggression, while a dog doing the same signals submission.
In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers observed a surprising behavior. They are learning how to talk each other’s language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk ‘Dog’, and dogs can learn how to talk ‘Cat’.
What’s interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence. They can learn to read each other’s body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than was previously thought. Once familiar with each other’s presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together, greet each other nose to nose, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. They can easily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom (梳理) each other.
The significance of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets -- to people who don’t get along, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even world superpowers. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.
32.The underlined word “swimmingly” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to ______.
A.early B.sweetly C.quickly D.coldly
33.Some cats and dogs may fight when ______.
A.they are cold to each other B.they look away from each other
C.they misunderstand each other’s signals D.they are introduced at an early age
34.It is suggested in Paragraph 4 that cats and dogs ______.
A.have common interests
B.are less different than was thought
C.have a common body language
D.are less intelligent than was expected
35.What can we human beings learn from cats and dogs
A.We should learn to live in harmony.
B.We should know more about animals.
C.We should live in peace with animals.
D.We should learn more body languages.

Milo is a rescue dog, adopted by twenty-year-old Mary Swift. But the dog is also a rescuer.
One morning in November 2021, Swift was ready to go jogging as usual, with Milo following her happily. To her surprise, as soon as she opened the front door, Milo took off running towards the gate quickly. It was very unusual. He always ran after his master.
Outside the gate, Milo was looking around the neighborhood, looking a little alert. Suddenly, he ran straightly to the house across the street, barking loudly and sniffing(嗅) around. He seemed unsatisfied with this house. He quickly ran to the one next door. He stopped there and turned to Swift, barking more loudly, with his tail swinging crazily. Swift followed him, shouting sharply “Stop, Milo!” Some passing neighbors were looking disapprovingly(不满地)at them .
Swift was kind of embarrassed. Not everyone wanted a strange dog on their property and liked hearing a dog's barks in the quiet morning. She tried to get Milo to go back, but Milo seemed not to follow the master's order. He started to scratch on the front door. Swift wondered, “Why is he trying to break into the house ” She looked at the house, which belonged to Sherry Starr, who was 85 years old and seldom walked out of her house. It was the time for her to trim her bushes in the garden. Somehow, she wasn't there that day.
Although Swift was a little doubtful, she still tried to drag Milo away. But at this time she could hear a sound coming through an open upstairs window.

One possible version:
It was a voice yelling “Help” . Immediately Swift recognized it was Starr's. Milo was still barking, with his tail swinging more crazily. Swift decided to break into the house, but Milo rushed before her. When she came in, what she saw shocked her. Starr was lying on the floor, looking scared. “I slipped, couldn't move. ”she said faintly. Swift realized Milo apparently heard Starr as she opened her door just now. She called 911 at once. 第6段材料
【原文】W: Peter, are you OK
M: (Coughing) Not really. The air quality is really bad today. I can’t stop coughing.
W: News reports said today’s AQI is 300. The PM2.5 levels are particularly bad.
M: No wonder I feel so bad. I turned on the air purifier in my office. I hope that helps.
W: It’s lunch time. Let me go out to buy lunch for us.
M: That will be great. Thanks. Make sure to wear a mask.
W: Do you have an extra mask
M: Yes, I always keep masks in my office. Let me get one for you.
W: Thanks.
第七段材料.
W: Good afternoon, sir. We have both Chinese food and Western food. Which do you like better, Chinese or Western
M: I’ll have Chinese food for a change today. I like Chinese food very much, you know.
W: I’m glad to hear that. This way, please. Here is the menu for today.
M: Thanks. This is my first visit to China. Could you tell me what different kinds of Chinese food you serve here
W: As you can see from the menu, we serve Shanghai food, Guangdong food and Sichuan food.
M: Could you tell me more about them
W: With pleasure. Guangdong food is a bit light. Sichuan food has a strong and hot taste. Shanghai food is rather oily.
M: Very interesting. There are so many kinds of dishes of different tastes. It’s hard to decide which to take. But I think I’ll have Sichuan food this time as I like hot food. I’d like to have some standard Sichuan dishes.
W: We usually serve the food first and then the soup, but we’ll bring you the soup first if you like.
M: I’m used to having soup first.
W: All right, sir. I’ll get it for you right now.

M: No, not this time unfortunately.
W: Ah no, I’m really sorry Alex. I know how much you wanted that. What did they say

W: Ah, that’s a pain. Keep going though. I’m sure there’s a job with your name on it just around the corner.
M: Yeah it’s just frustrating because I’ve sent out so many applications recently and haven’t had any luck.
W: Yeah I bet, that must be really annoying. Let me know if I can help at all with interview preparation, or just as another pair of eyes on your CV.
M: Yeah that might be helpful actually to practise interview questions!
W: Great. Just send a message when you’re free and I’ll give you a hand.
M: Thank you. I’ll do.
第九段材料
【原文】W: How is your preparation for the exam going on
M: Not too bad, overall. I’m worried about English and chemistry, Though. How is yours going on
W: Mine is alright. I’m also finding chemistry to be a bit challenging because there is too much to memorize in organic chemistry.
M: Organic chemistry has been a problem for me too. Can we study chemistry together, at least the organic part
W: Sure. I think it’s a good idea. Can you help me with English though
M: Yeah, I can. Where exactly in English you’re facing a problem
W: Thanks. Grammar and reading comprehension are the main problem areas for me.
M: As far as Grammar are concerned, I can help you in understanding the rules. But for reading comprehension, you need to put in lots of practice to get better at it.
W: OK. Will do. Thanks. Let’s get back to studying. All the best for your next exam.
M: Thanks. All the best for you as well.
第十段材料
【原文】The first thing I did when I woke up in the morning was watching TV news. I could see that the situation was bad, and they showed a map where the forest fires were burning. Outside in the garden I couldn’t see the morning sun, as the sky was full of smoke. I decided to leave right away. My son was staying in town and my wife was abroad so it was up to me to decide what to do and where to go. I packed a suitcase of clothes and another case of useful things, such as my bankbook and all the money I had. Out in the garden the sky was getting blacker and the wind which had been blowing hard for a whole night was getting stronger. I got into my car and drove down the road. The smoke was really thick and at times it was difficult to see the road clearly. Animals were running across the road, trying to escape the fire. I silently prayed that the fire would be put out as soon as possible
