What will restaurants look like in the future What would your dinner taste like if a robot cooked it A robot restaurant in Tianjin may give you the answers.
Covering an area of over 400 square meters with a total of 112 seats, the X Future Restaurant is a robot restaurant that opened in November 2018. The restaurant has amazed customers with its fully-automated (全自动的) technology, which covers every step of the dining experience, from ordering to cooking to serving the dishes and even taking payment.
Entering the restaurant, one can order dishes by simply scanning the QR codes on the table. There are over 40 choices of dishes. After taking the order, “robot cooks” prepare dishes using fixed time, temperature and ingredients designed by famous Chinese cooks.
“As the cooking is controlled by a computer system, the taste and quality of dishes can be good,” said Li Xiaokui, manager of the X Future Restaurant.
Robots also complete the delivery of dishes. Without following any designed route, the robot waiters serve meals thanks to automated driving technology, which helps each robot timely change its route when something is in the way.
These eye-catching technologies have received wide praise from customers. “The dishes taste surprisingly good. I couldn’t believe that they were made by robots, especially dishes that were difficult to cook.” one customer said. “The application of robots has increased our efficiency and cut down our costs,” Li said, “I think robot restaurants will develop fast and have a bright future.”

Dog owners walked about 23 minutes longer each day than non-dog owners. In a new study, dog owners took 2,760 additional steps—compared to people who didn’t have a dog at home. But here’s the real good news: That extra exercise was done at a moderate(适度的)pace, which means it could help adults meet their recommended weekly totals for physical activity.
The research, published in BMC Public Health, focused on adults 65 and older, who tend to be less active than younger people. The study included 43 dog owners and 43 non-dog owners, all of whom were monitored continuously for three week-long periods. When they compared the two groups, the researchers found that dog ownership was associated with a large, potentially health-improving effect.
Dog owners walked about 23 minutes longer each day than non-dog owners, 119 minutes versus 96 minutes on average. They also took an additional 2,760 steps, and had eight fewer continuous periods of sitting down. Most of that extra walking was done at moderate pace, defined as 100 or more steps a minute. Dog owners walked at this pace for 32 minutes a day, versus just 11 minutes a day for non-dog owners.
The World Health Organization(WHO)recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of physical activity a week. This increased walking time alone could just about satisfy that requirement, say the researchers—so it makes total sense that 87 percent of dog owners in the study met these guidelines, versus just 47 percent of non-dog owners.
Co-author Nancy Gee says that pet ownership may help older adults get more activity or maintain their current activity level for a longer period of time. “This could improve their chances of a better quality of life, improved or maintained cognition(认知), and perhaps, even overall longevity(寿命),”she said.
Here at Health, we’ ll add that caring for pets has been shown to have plenty of other physical and mental health benefits, as well. As animal lovers ourselves, we’ re happy to add one more to the list.
28. What can we learn about the research
A. It was targeted on old people.
B. It was sponsored by the WHO.
C. It had an undesirable effect on dog owners.
D. It took the mental health of dog owners into consideration.
29. What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 3
A. To present the results of the research. B. To show the guidelines of the research.
C. To describe the process of the research. D. To explain the reasons for conducting the research.
30. What does Nancy Gee think of owning a dog
A. It is too expensive. B. It is time-consuming.
C. It enables older adults to live a healthy life. D. It helps young adults to keep a healthy routine.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. Non-pet owners enjoy more pleasure B. Animal lovers are more generous
C. Young people walk less today D. Dog owners walk way more

Plants are vital to human survival, even when there’s no sunlight. But keeping your houseplants alive in window-less rooms or in shadowy corners can be a challenge. Luckily, there are ways to help your plants stay energetic, even when their sunny source of energy is limited.
Grow lights provide an easy and accessible energy increase in dim or black spaces. These specialized beams (光线) have different features, colors, and prices. LEDs, for instance, are the cheapest and most energy-efficient option.
While most devices stick to a warm white light, plants respond differently to various illuminating colors. Scientist Levine has made two creative experiments. Under gravity, red light worked well for the slim flowering plants Arabidopsis (拟南芥). But in the weightless environment, they stretched into funny shapes until he started adding blue lights. He eventually found a middle ground and put the plants in green light.
If electricity is a limiting factor, you can try to reflect light with mirrors. Even brightening up your space with white decorations, like a light-colored tablecloth, will cast a little glow over your plants. While it’s not comparable to using a grow light or the sun, it could offer plants extra power.
Some plants, including tomatoes, need more light than those like Arabidopsis; new seedling s need less light than fully-grow n plants. As you choose your seeds and seedlings, research their native ranges to learn how much sunshine they’d naturally get.
Plants are finally adaptable. They can stretch their stems toward available light sources or produce extra chlorophyll (叶绿素), which absorbs available cold light. Even though they may not be getting all the light that they would like for optimum (最适宜的) growth, they’ll still grow. With only a little extra help, you and your plants can overcome the darkness.
32.What is the purpose of using grow lights
A.To change the color of the plants.
B.To provide an energy boost in dim spaces.
C.To create a decorative effect in the room.
D.To help plants grow in weightless environments.
33.What did Levine discover about the effect of different light colors in experiments
A.Plants grew best under red lights without gravity.
B.Blue lights caused plants to grow funny shapes.
C.Green lights were the best choice for plants without gravity.
D.Plants preferred warm white lights in all situations.
34.How can you help plants get extra energy without using electricity
A.By putting the metal in the soil. B.By adding more fertilizer to their soil.
C.By decorating some reflective objects. D.By pouring some chemical liquid.
35.Who is the passage written for
A.Plant scientists and researchers.
B.Indoor decorators and designers.
C.Farmers planning to grow crops in low-light conditions.
D.Individuals looking to improve their indoor gardening skills.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
People set goals for their lives. Perhaps you want to lose weight, learn a new skill or read 30 books a year. But then you get busy and your daily life takes up all of your time. Before you know it, weeks, then months have gone by and you are no closer to your goal. 36
1. Make a specific plan
Adding details to your plan helps you act better. Be sure to add when and where. If your goal is to work out five days each week, a plan like “I’ll work out on weekdays” would be too vague. But a detailed plan like “I’ll exercise at the gym on weekdays during my lunch break” would fit the bill. 37 For example, if you plan to work out during lunch, you’ll be sure to refuse a lunch invitation from others.
2. Consider punishment
This may sound difficult, but ensuring you’ll face some punishment if you don’t achieve your goal can work wonders. One easy way to do this is to tell a few people about your goal. You’ll feel ashamed if they check back later and find out you haven’t followed through. Feeling ashamed is a kind of spiritual punishment. You can also make a bet with a friend that you’ll stick to your goal. 38
3. Make it fun
Most of us concentrate on the final result when it comes to achieving our goals. 39 Are you enjoying the process of pursuing you goal If it’s not fun to exercise or study, you’re unlikely to keep at it. But if you get pleasure from your works or study sessions, you’ll persist longer. It’s the pursuit of your goals-not the reaching of them-that makes up the weeks, days and hours of our lives. So make sure to have fun along the way!
4. Get a little help from your friends
Spending time around high achievers can boost your own performance. If your aim is to run a marathon or write a book, you’d be wise to start hanging around friends who’ve made it to the finish line and can show you how it’s done. You’ll learn a lot just by spending time together with these friends. 40 Giving someone else tips on how to achieve boosts your self-confidence and motivates you to achieve success.
A.There is evidence that cash punishment motivates success.
B.It can also help you avoid interruptions.
C.Coaching friends with shared goals can improve your success rate, too.
D.Who could you turn to for help
E.If you want to stick to it, try the following strategies.
F.But focusing too much on it can make us ignore an even more important thing.
G.Friends are well aware of your strengths and weaknesses.

Jim loved adventures when he was a little boy. He was also a strong-minded boy who didn't give up easily.
One day when he was thirteen years old, he asked some friends to climb a mountain with him. The boys agreed and they even decided to camp at the top of the mountain. Then after they got ready, they set off. It was a beautiful day and the boys started climbing the mountain happily after they got to the foot of it. The mountain was very tall and it was tiring for the young boys to climb it, but everyone was passionate about the activity and no one complained.
When it got dark, they finally reached the top and they all shouted happily. Then Jim started counting. To his shock, there was one missing.
“Where is Mike ” he asked.
All the boys looked around and they didn't see Mike around. They got concerned.
“Mike, Mike…” they started shouting. But there was no response. Worrying that Mike might be in danger, the boys knew they must return to find him. However after climbing the mountain for hours, they were all tired, so Jim asked the other boys to camp there and then he went down the mountain to find Mike alone.
Jim left the boys and started going down the mountain with a flashlight. Though tired, hungry and cold, he still didn't give up because of worrying about his friend. But things got even worse when his flashlight suddenly stopped working,
Jim almost became desperate. Out of despair, he started calling his friend’s name. To his joy, finally, he got a weak response. Mike was just nearby.
Jim felt his way in the darkness and walked toward his friend. Luckily the moon got out of the cloud and Jim could finally see again. He found his friend who had been trapped in a hole for hours. Jim managed to pull Mike up from the hole, and Mike was finally safe. However, Jim was so tired that he fell and rolled down a slope and lost consciousness.

【原文】W: Good morning class. Now I'll tell you something about the history of English. Old English is very difficult to understand. Only a few experts can read it. Several written works from the old English period have remained. Perhaps the most famous is called Beowulf. The name of the person who wrote it is not known. In 1066, William took control of England. The language used by the new rulers gradually changed the way English was spoken by 800 years ago. English became what language experts call middle English, which was used between about AD eleven fifty and AD 1,500. Middle English sounds like modern English. Many written works from this period have passed down. Perhaps the most famous was written by Geoffrey Chaucer, a poet who lived in London and died there in the 1400s. Chaucer is most famous work, is the Canterbury tales written more than 600 years ago. The history of the English language continues as middle English becomes modern English. I'll talk about that after a short break.

Hearing that, Jim became desperate, with tears rolling down his face. He loved adventures and now he even couldn’t walk. His parents and friends were all there with him, feeling sad and regretful. But they all encouraged him, saying that they’d do all that they could to help him walk again.

The process was really painful and hard, but he never gave up. One year later, Jim finally made it. Now he can have adventures with his friends again!
