Lesson1 Listening and Speaking A Moral Dilemma Describe the right choice made by Lin Qiaozhi in a moral dilemma. By analyzing the qualities of Lin Qiaozhi, students will be guided to express their personal views on moral dilemmas in real life.
Lesson 2 & 3 Reading and Thinking Mother of Ten Thousand Babies Introduce Lin Qiaozhi's personal stories and guide students to learn good qualities and virtues.
Lesson 4 Listening and Talking Talk about the importance of kindness Listen to the stories of ordinary people passing on kindness on a radio show; share the short stories of kindness that students have experienced or heard.
Lesson 5 & 6 Reading for Writing The stone in the road To characterize the fable short story, summarize its cause, its course and its outcome, summarize the implied educational meaning and explain the importance of social responsibility.
Lesson 7 Video Time Confucius and Ren Learning about Confucius and his ideas on education, students express their opinions on how to observe and practice the virtues themselves in real life.

II. Text analysis
1. What
The listening content is about moral dilemmas. We can learn a real experience of Lin Qiaozhi in China, and discuss a specific moral dilemma by listening to the dialogue between Jane and Luke: a student who was taking the entrance exam for a medical university in Beijing met the student next to her fainted, should she finish the exam or should she stop and help the student
How
The dialogue uses the exaggeration and rising tone to express “surprise” or “can’t believe”, such as “did”, “really, like what”. The listening strategies can help students judge the speakers’ attitudes and emotions by intonation and rising tone.
Why
Through the definition of moral dilemmas, this dialogue discussed the different choices and results that people are in moral dilemmas, as well as the moral concepts and principles behind the choices. This helps students to understand and feel the universality of moral dilemmas in daily life, solve practical problems of moral dilemmas, improve their dialectical thinking ability, and be able to observe and view social phenomena more comprehensively and objectively. At the same time, it is also a good emotional and knowledge foundation for the next reading period.

1. What they have known
1)Students have relatively good attitudes towards learning; they also have the ability to obtain general idea and the basic information of the conversation.
2)They can infer the attitude of the speakers by what the people say.

1)They are still students in the first year of high school, and their listening ability is relatively weak.
2)Students are familiar with the topic of moral dilemmas, but they may don’t how to judge the speaker’s attitude by intonation.

1)By the end of this lesson, students will develop some listening sub-skills, like prediction, selective attention and so on.
2)Students are able to identify what moral dilemmas are and share their own thoughts based on real situations in their life in their own words.

Lead-in (5 mins) Activity 1 Research & Report Students complete a survey about choices before the class. Pre-listening (2 mins) Activity 2 Learn & Understand Students try to understand the definition of “moral dilemmas” with the help of the questions in the lead-in section.
Purpose To get prepared.
While- listening (13 mins) Activity 3 Listen & Complete Students listen to the conversation for the first time and write down what they have heard on the line. Activity 4 Listen & Judge Students listen to the conversation again and decide whether the statements are true or false with some hints offered by teacher.
Purpose 1. To understand the content of the listening material. 2. To learn some tips to judge attitude.
Post- listening (14 mins) Activity 5 Role play The students re-act the listening material. In the role play, students should pay attention to imitating the intonation of the speaker.
Purpose 1. To review the listening content. 2. To improve their skills of speaking and help them participate better in class.
Speaking (7 mins) Activity 6 Rethink & Share After learning the listening material, students rethink the choices made in survey and teacher guides them to share their opinions and reasons.
Purpose 1. To share their ideas of some moral dilemmas. 2. To depend understanding of moral rightness.
Evaluation (2 mins) Activity 7 Reflect Students make an evaluation according to the self-evaluation form.
