Football star Jason Brown retired abruptly from the NFL (美国国家橄榄球大联盟) in 2012 in order to deal with something bigger than anything he'd faced on a football field: sweet potatoes.
Brown, then 29, moved with his wife, Tay, and their children from Missouri, where he'd played with the St. Louis Rams, back home to North Carolina, where he bought 1 ,000 acres in Louisburg. Overnight, he went from football star to family farmer. "For most people , it doesn't make sense—why would you leave an awesome NFL career " he says.
But Brown wasn't going to become just any farmer. He would give away nearly everything he grew. “I didn't feel l was just supposed to use my millions to buy food and donate it. I had to be out there doing the work and leading the way”, he says.
This radical step came to him one day when he was struck by a feeling that he had a purpose beyond sports. “Farming chose me; it was my calling in life,” he says.
Only one problem: Jason didn't know the first thing about farming. So he did what all beginners do today—watched videos on the Internet. Then he partnered with another local farm that helped him plant fields of sweet potatoes. He named his land First Fruits Farm.
In early fall of 2014, the first harvest was ready. Fifty pickup trucks arrived at the farm and loaded up 120 ,000 pounds to distribute locally. In 2015, First Fruits Farm expanded its sweet potato donations to food banks across eastern North Carolina.
Jason uses his unusual story to show the local youth what it takes to grow food from start to finish. “They get that food doesn't just magically appear in the grocery store or restaurants,” he says.
24. What did most people think of Brown's decision to retire from the NFL
A. They weren't satisfied with it. B. They couldn't understand it.
C. They had doubts about it. D. They disapproved of it.
25. What does the underlined word “radical” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. Easy. B. Slow. C. Great. D. Careful.
26. How did Brown learn to grow food
A. From books. B. From the Internet.
C. By practicing on a local farm. D. By attending beginner training classes.
27. Which of the following can best describe Brown
A. Brave and generous. B. Proud and determined.
C. Ambitious and sensitive. D. Considerate and optimistic.

Do you like Chinese traditional painting and dance They are two important parts of the traditional Chinese art. But what about when they meet each other
This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting (《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV's Spring Festival Gala and became popular.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance program was inspired by the 900-year-old Chinese painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》). Created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its sweeping size, rich coloration and the expressive details, reported CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape: "mountains and groupings of infinite (无限的) rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling (涟漪的) water". When the dancers moved elegantly, audiences seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an exhibition. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a review. “More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still impress people as they did long ago.” Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows feature Chinese traditional culture and have received warm welcome. As for the reason, it is due to people's great love for traditional culture.
“The younger generations have grown up with a more open mind. They accept Chinese culture and are proud of it.” Yao Wei, director of Henan TV Station's Innovation Center, told China Daily.

In colleges around the country , most students are also workers.
The reality of college can be pretty different from the images presented in movies and television. Instead of the students who wake up late, party all the time, and study only before exams , many colleges are full of students with pressing schedules of not just classes and activities, but real jobs, too.
This isn't a temporary phenomenon (临时现象). The share of working students has been on the rise since the 1970s, and one-fifth of students work year round. About one-quarter of those who work while attending school have both a full-course load and a full-time job. The arrangement can help pay for tuition (学费) and living costs, obviously. And there's value in it beyond the direct cause: such jobs can also be vital for developing important professional and social skills that make it easier to land a job after graduation. With many employers looking for students with already-developed skill sets, on-the-job training while in college can be the best way to ensure a job later on.
But it's not all upside. Even full-time work may not completely cover the cost of tuition and living expenses. The study notes that if a student worked a full-time job at the minimum wage, they would earn just over $ 15 , 000 each year , certainly not enough to pay for tuition, room, and meals at many colleges without some serious financial aid. That means that though they're sacrificing (牺牲) time away from the classroom, many working students will still graduate with at least some debt (负债). And working full time can reduce the chance that students will graduate at all , by cutting into the time available for studying and attending classes.
There is little reward for attending but not finishing college. Students who end up leaving school because of difficulty in managing work and class are likely to find themselves stuck in some of the same jobs they might have gotten if they hadn't gone to college at all. The difficulty of working too much while in school can create a cycle that pushes students further into debt without receiving any of the financial or career benefits.
32. It can be learned from the passage that today's college students actually_________.
A. attend a number of parties B. work while attending school
C. stay up late all the time D. care little about exams
33. Which of the following factors indirectly causes more students to work
A. The chance of finding a job after graduation.
B. The shortage of holiday jobs for college students.
C. The need of improving social skills.
D. The high tuition and living expenses.
34. According to the passage, we know that________.
A. working students are more likely to graduate from college
B. the pay from working can cover students' college costs
C. working too much while in college may not benefit a student's career
D. students can receive a reward for managing work and class well
35. What is the best title for the passage
A. An Introduction of Working College Students
B. The Advantages of Working While Studying
C. The Difficulties of Landing a Job
D. The Struggle to Balance Work and School

One time, the teachers at a school wanted to teach the students about airplanes. While all airplanes can fly, some are able to fly farther than others. This is because not all airplanes are built the same. For example, a fighter plane looks very different from a plane that people fly in when they want to go on a holiday. The teachers wondered how they could make students understand this.
Then, the science teacher, Mr Moose, decided that the school should have a paper airplane contest. Every student would design a paper airplane. They would stand in a line in the playground behind the school. The students would take turns throwing their airplanes. The student whose airplane went the farthest would win.
When Mr Moose announced the paper airplane contest to the students, they were very excited. A student named Paul, who was in the school sports team, said to everyone else that his airplane would win. “I am the strongest,” Paul said. “So I will be able to throw my airplane the farthest.”
However, while Paul was saying this, another student, Brian, was thinking how he could win. Brian did not play any sports and was not very strong. But he loved airplanes and really wanted to win the contest.
Brian realized what he had to do. He went to the store and bought a big stack (叠) of paper. When he got home, he took the paper into his backyard. He took a piece of paper and folded an airplane. It didn't go very far, so Brian took another piece and folded another airplane and threw it. This airplane went a little farther. Brian kept folding different kinds of airplanes and throwing them. Some went very far and some did not. Finally, when Brian had used all the paper, he walked up to the airplane that had flown the farthest and picked it up.
The next day was the contest. All the students lined up. Everyone took turns. After a while, everyone had thrown except Paul and Brian. Paul went first. With a loud yell , he threw the airplane into the sky. It went farther than every other airplane. Everyone cheered.

Finally, it was Brian's turn. Brian took the airplane that he had picked up the day before. He walked up to the line and, with all his strength, he threw the plane. It went flying, farther and farther, until finally it landed—10 feet past Paul's plane ! The whole school cheered. Brian won the contest. Mr Moose gave him a prize: a toy airplane.
Brian won because he tried out many solutions to the problem of how to make an airplane fly very far. He did this by testing out many different designs and comparing the results. When he found the design that worked best—the paper airplane that flew the farthest—he used it. Because Brian tried a lot of designs, he was able to make up for his lack of strength and beat Paul.
