Felicia Jackson was certified in CPR, but that didn’t stop her from drawing a blank in the face of a real-life crisis. When her son stopped breathing in the back seat of her car, she froze in panic. Thankfully, her husband remained calm and was able to save their child. However, Felicia was shaken to find that, with all her years of medical experience, she wasn’t able to respond to her son’s emergency under pressure.
This unpleasant situation inspired Felicia to come up with a simple tool to make performing CPR easier, especially in high-risk situation. She created the CPR Wrap, a pocket-sized packaging device that can be laid over the body of the victim to show where the rescuer should put their hands and mouth. Not only does the product provide helpful instructions, but it also includes a face shield (挡板) and a one-way breathing barrier. This cuts down on the transfer of germs while performing mouth-to-mouth.
“Even people experienced in CPR can forget their training in stressful situations,” reads the description on the product’s website. “CPR Wrap makes it possible for those individuals to effectively perform CPR at a moment’s notice.”
Although that CPR Wrap was launched in 2017, one video on the TikTok account has recently gone viral. In the video, Felicia shows viewers the simple process of using her product to perform CPR. She adds that it’s “so easy a child could do it.” The brand now boasts over 100,000 followers and 2 million likes.

Dr. Joseph Dituri, who is 55 and known as “Dr. Deep Sea”, has just finished an amazing adventure. For 100 days, the University of South Florida scientist lived in a small room underwater. He set a new world record, beating the old record of 73 days.
The farther you go below the ocean’s surface, the greater the pressure. The mission, known as Project Neptune 100, was a scientific attempt to study the effects of living in a high-pressure environment for a continuous period. In his undersea room, Dr. Dituri was living with pressure that was about 66% greater than the pressure on the surface. He believed that high pressure could help people live longer and stay healthier as they get older and that it could also help doctors treat different medical problems, including brain injuries.
Actually, Dr. Dituri went through several big changes. For one thing, he became 1.3 centimeters shorter during his time at the higher pressure undersea. He was also able to sleep much better. His physical conditions greatly improved in a couple of other ways, too.
While he was living underwater, Dr. Dituri stayed busy. He used the project as an educational experience for the youth. “I have communicated with thousands of young people to get them interested in science, technology, engineering and math,” he said. He had online chats with over 5,500 students from 15 different countries. Meanwhile, he kept teaching his college classes and worked with other marine experts to figure out ways to protect and take care of the ocean.
Dr. Dituri said his favorite part of the project was talking with young people. “If we can get people excited about science, that would be a great success to me!” he said. “Maybe one day, one of them will come back and break the record I just set. My greatest hope is that I can inspire a new generation of researchers to push back the boundaries.”
28.Why did Dr. Dituri have the adventure
A.To learn how human bodies respond to high pressure.
B.To research the underwater life better.
C.To draw attention to a healthy lifestyle.
D.To beat the previous world record.
29.What happened to Dr. Dituri
A.His state of health stabilized. B.He was forced to live a busy life.
C.His height changed slightly. D.He suffered from sleep problems.
30.What does Dr. Dituri want to inspire young people to do through the project
A.Develop enthusiasm for science. B.Challenge themselves bravely.
C.Expand scientific boundaries. D.Protect the ocean actively.
31.How can we describe Dr. Dituri
A.He is high-powered and caring. B.He is determined and inspiring.
C.He is open-minded and insightful. D.He is committed and optimistic.

While there are many milk substitutes (替代品) on the market, most fall short of imitating dairy milk. And while vegetarians around the world have grown accustomed to these substitutes, millions of milk drinkers are unsatisfied with these options, which don’t often taste, look, and blend like dairy milk. That accuracy is exactly what Impossible Foods has set out to develop. “We want milk that a dairy milk consumer will choose” said CEO Pat Brown at a virtual conference call.
Like the famous Impossible Burger which tastes, cooks, and bleeds like real meat, Impossible Milk will also most likely be soy-based, giving it a protein profile (外形) like dairy milk. While the product is still in development for at least another year, Brown said in the conference call that soy is a very good choice from a nutritional standpoint and a supply chain standpoint, and for those reasons he thinks there’s a great chance that it will be the base protein for their product.
Plant-based milk, meats, and other products have been rising over the past several years as environmental and health concerns have grown, especially among millennials (千禧一代). According to a study by YouGov, approximately 55 percent of millennials surveyed agree with the statement “I am open to substituting meat or dairy products with healthy substitutes”.
And the market is seeing this preference take shape. According to the Dairy Farmers of America, milk sales dropped by $1.1 billion between 2017 and 2018. While at the same time, the Plant-Based Food Association revealed that the sales of plant-based milk increased a lot, making up 15 percent of the total milk market.
As the trend towards choosing plant-based substitutes grows, so do the products, which can now be found in supermarkets throughout the world. With no plans of slowing down, plant-based food substitutes are a micro revolution that is changing the very culture of our food consumption from the bottom all the way to the top.
32.What is the target of Impossible Foods
A.To satisfy the increasing demand for milk. B.To attract more vegetarians to buy milk.
C.To make its milk more similar to dairy milk. D.To develop more nutritional milk substitutes.
33.What is most of the young generation’s attitude to plant-based milk
A.Intolerant. B.Unclear. C.Impartial. D.Favorable.
34.What do the figures in Paragraph 4 imply
A.The poor sales of milk substitutes. B.The success of Impossible Foods’s milk.
C.The booming market for plant-based milk. D.The competition among plant-based products.
35.What do we know about plant-based substitutes
A.They will change vegetarians’ diets. B.They are only sold in supermarkets.
C.They are expensive for most consumers. D.They have a strong effect on food culture.

We’ve all been there—you’ve sent a message and it’s marked “read”, but you haven’t heard anything back. What’s the deal While being left on read (已读不回) can be confusing, it’s also pretty common. 36 Here are a few tips.
Expect the best. Remind yourself that the person is probably just busy. Ask yourself if you actually know their schedule. There could be some time commitments you aren’t aware of. Here are a few other reasons for a delayed response. 37 They put their phone away to focus on work or school. They accidentally forgot to reply. Maybe they thought about what they wanted to say but didn’t actually text it.
Resist the temptation (诱惑) to double-text. 38 If you send a lot of follow-up texts, it’ll be hard for them to keep up and they might get stressed. Leave them with just one text to catch up on—the other person will probably appreciate your patience.
Read over your previous messages. See if there are any confusing texts that you need to clarify. It’s okay if you review your message again and notice that it might have been a little unclear—it happens! 39
40 Keep it out of sight and get some peace of mind. Don’t let it upset or confuse you. If you get your mind off any notifications, you’ll be able to brainstorm new ways to spend your time.
A.Put your phone away.
B.Fix your attention closely on text responses.
C.Give them a little space so they have a chance to reply.
D.They want to give you a longer response but can’t right now.

Freddie Forbes stared in awe (敬畏) at the platform in the packed school hall. The headmaster marched onto the stage, followed by the captains of the school soccer team and rugby side. Freddie watched enviously (羡慕地) as each was presented with an honors jacket for their contribution to the school’s sporting success over the previous year. When the next presentation of honors jacket would come around, Freddie knew there was little hope that he would be the receiver of one of these treasured items of clothing.
“I wish you all a happy summer holiday,” the headmaster announced. “Although most of you will be going away to sunnier parts, there are others who will be staying near their home. The local council has asked the school to undertake a project over the next six weeks to help clear up litter around the area and separate it for recycling. If anyone is interested, come to my office and you will be supplied with a litter picker, bags and heavy-duty gloves.”
Freddie knew he would be at a loose end over the holiday, so he went to the office along with four other boys to pick up the equipment needed to gather up the rubbish which littered the streets around the school. When he arrived home, his mother looked at him curiously as he placed the equipment on the kitchen table.
“What is this all about ” she asked with a smile on her face. “Mum, I’m an average pupil and I’m not very good at sports,” he replied. “This waste recycling is one way I can contribute to the good name of the school.”
“Just as long as you don’t get fed up and stop half way through,” said Mum.
“I have made up my mind to stick this out through thick and thin,” Freddie said confidently.

66.The person I respect
We have a lot of respectable people around us. They may be our teachers, parents or one of our elders. As for me, my father is the person I respect most. My father is a teacher who loves his work and his students very much. He works very hard every day but he will also spare some time to accompany me and share many funny things with me about his work.
When I come across the problems of learning in my study, my father will listen to me patiently and encourage me to overcome the difficulties bravely. He achieved a lot in his work, respected by his students. So, in my mind my father is the person I respect most and I love him deeply.
67.Over the next few weeks, the other boys dropped out of the project. But Freddie kept on. Some of his friends laughed at him, thinking it was a waste of time. Nevertheless, Freddie decided to stick it out. The first day of the new school year soon arrived and once again the school hall was packed with pupils. When the headmaster appeared, he was carrying a certificate which bore the logo of the local council. “Welcome back,” he said, “The council has presented this certificate to the school in recognition of the work by one of our pupils. Freddie Forbes, please come to the platform.”
Hearing his name called by the headmaster, Freddie nervously made his way to the platform. The headmaster smiled at Freddie. “This certificate you have worked so hard to achieve will hang in the school office, but you will get a personal award too.” A teacher came onto the stage, bringing one of the honors jackets that Freddie had admired so much. The headmaster asked Freddie to remove his own jacket and helped him into the blazer that he thought he would never wear. As the pupils who had dropped out looked on enviously, Freddie knew that collecting waste was certainly not a waste of time.
