Text 1
M: On the first day we pass the mountain and our ship stops at a nearby port. We can walk around
the town for a while.
W: Great, but I prefer to see the sunset on the shore.
Text 2
M: Ah, Lucy, you’re back. How was your weekend adventure
W: Fantastic, although two days isn’t really long enough for Paris. It needs at least a week.
M: I agree. I felt the same way when I visited London and Amsterdam.
Text 3
W: Do you still have the sale on shirts Two for $20
M: No. That ended last week. Shirts are back to the regular price of $15 each.
Text 4
W: Hi, Tony. I haven’t seen you for a long time. How are things going
M: I’m sorry, Kate. I’m going to the meeting.
W: Then shall we catch up when it finishes
M: OK.
Text 5
W: Where are you going to spend the holiday
M: I want to go to India, but my wife lived there as a child, so she wants to go somewhere new. We
can’t decide between Australia and New Zealand.
Text 6
W: It’s shown that your arm has a small break, but your leg’s fine.
M: That’s a relief.
W: How did the accident happen
M: Someone dropped a bottle of sauce at the supermarket, and I fell over on it.
W: Were there no warning signs
M: Yes, but I was talking on the phone and didn’t notice them.
W: Did anyone help you
M: No. There was nobody around.
W: How’s your head feeling
M: Fine, I protected my head when I fell.
W: Good, the doctor is very busy now, but I’ll ask him to have a look when he can.
Text 7
M: I asked one of my Japanese classmates out for dinner tonight. I wonder where I should take him.
W: You could try the Indian restaurant.
M: But he doesn’t like it.
W: What about the Chinese restaurant
M: Which one is that
W: It’s near our school. It’s just a block away, next to the bank. It has been in business for a long time.
M: Great.
W: I’ve been there many times. The food is always excellent.
M: How are their prices
W: They’re neither too high nor too low.
M: Great. Thanks for your advice.
Text 8
M: Janet, glad to see you here. I didn’t know you went to work by subway.
W: I don’t usually. It’s just that I’m fed up with driving and paying so much for gas. The buses are
crowded and usually late. So, I thought I’d give this a try.
M: I know what you mean. I started taking the subway two years ago, and it’s wonderful.
W: What do you like about it
M: Lucas Street Station is three streets away from our office building. And going home, the Russia
Street Station is only two streets from my apartment, which is a good distance to walk. When I
was driving, I wasn’t getting nearly as much exercise.
W: Same here. Plus, the subway’s cheaper than buying gas in the long run. So, did you say we
should get off at Lucas Street
Text 9
W: What’s wrong I thought you had decided to paint the bedroom today.
M: Well, I started painting, but I just don’t feel up to it right now.
W: Why’s that You said it was what you were going to do this weekend.
M: I did intend to. But after such a tough week at work, I’m just not feeling well and I’d rather
relax than do more work.
W: Why don’t we get someone to do the painting It’s not fair that you don’t have some spare time.
M: I thought about that, but, really, I don’t mind doing it. I just feel like taking a break at the
moment.
W: Quite right. I’m going shopping now. Why don’t you watch TV while I’m out — or would you
like to come with me
M: I’m sorry. My boss called me and I have to write an email.
W: OK. The painting can wait until another day.
M: Yes, maybe I’ll make a better job of it when I feel more up for it.
Text 10
Over the past 75 years, Robert Holzman has danced his way across New York City, and he did all kinds of dancing. 89-year-old Robert is a well-known figure at the city’s dancing events and had never missed a single “Midsummer Night Swing” event at Lincoln Center. All that changed in March of 2020, with the COVID-19 spreading all over the world. As the elderly were particularly at risk from the virus, Robert was very careful to stay home. He spent the past 12 months at home playing online games with friends, reading electronic books from the New York Public Library, and dancing round his apartment. After the situation improved in February, Robert celebrated by visiting his favorite restaurants, and dancing through the city streets. His hope is that the yearly dance series, held at Bryant Park each May, could be able to take place this year. “I have no doubt that I will be able to do whatever I did before,” he says.唐山市十县一中联盟2023-2024学年度高二年级第二学期期中考试
