A poem is a piece of writing in which the words are chosen for their beauty and sound and are carefully arranged(安排), often in short lines that rhyme.

compared to/with是过去分词短语作状语,意思是“和...比起来”。

Although a poem has fewer words, it's not always easier to write.
① although conj. “虽然,尽管”
虽然诗歌用词较少,但写起来不总是容易的。
尽管他们穷, 他们却一直很诚实。

② not always “不总是”, 表部分否定。像both, everybody, always, everywhere等含有“总括意义”的词与否定连用表部分否定。

Like it's calling me aloud to eat!
aloud adv. “出声地,大声地”。
就像它正在大声呼唤我去吃!
aloud“出声地, 大声地”, 强调发出的声音能被听见,意思为“出声地”或“大声地”,常与read等连用。强调发出声音, 出声, 但并不代表声音大。而当aloud修饰laugh, talk, speak等时, 就有声音大的意思了。
他总是大声地朗读。

拓展:
loud 主要指说话声和笑声等,常用比较级形式.意为“响亮地”、“大声”或“高声地”,侧重发出的音量大,传得远,一般多用来修饰 speak ,talk ,laugh 等动词。
Try to sing louder. 试着再大点儿声唱.
loudly 意为“响亮地”,其基本意义与 loud 相同,还常与 ring ,knock 等动词连用.loudly 放在动词前后均可,可指人声、敲门声或其他各种声音,强调声音高、喧叫.含有“喧闹”或“嘈杂”的意味。
