One day, when I finished raising money for a charity and was on the train back home, I put down my phone and started writing thank-you notes to people who had offered help.
When I got off the train, I felt amazingly good. The next day, I wrote more thank-you notes and the same feeling of happiness hit me again. I suddenly had the idea: Why not keep on doing this for every day of the year
To keep on the task, I decided to pick out a different theme for each month. January was charity. February would be neighbours. And many names came to my mind right away.
While writing the notes, I realized I spent too much time on the phone moving from app to app, enjoying other people’s lives. Writing thank-you notes allowed me the time to do something different, paying more attention to my own life.
In the following months, I wrote to my friends, doctors and teachers. In July, my "food" month, I
wrote to Julie, who used to cook at my favourite restaurant. It went like this:
Dear Julie,
I find myself missing you lately. Thank you for hosting and cooking beautiful food. Jake and I will never forget the cake you made for our wedding. We talk about it every year.
Thank you. We miss you.
Love,
Gina
I was happy to receive a note back from her. Julie replied, "I don't think I've ever received such a touching letter before. I'm going through a hard time right now, and this helps."
On December 31, I wrote my last card---to Jake, my husband, and our two kids. And I took a picture of us, so I could remember the feeling coming up inside me---Gratitude.

The Comic Relief charity, an organization that helps people in need, uses laughter to raise money. Every two years in spring, many English people put on a red nose, make a fool of themselves and do "silly" things to make themselves and others laugh. Examples of silly things you can do are:
Invite friends around to your house to watch funny films. They have to pay for watching the films---those with the most comfortable chairs pay more---and for food and drinks.
Hold a talent show at school and ask your friends and teachers to sing, dance or tell jokes. Sell tickets for the show to the rest of the school.
Have a red nose party at your house. All your friends come dressed in red, including a red nose, and you serve red food and drinks. If they don't wear red, they have to pay a fine.
Get the students in your school to make funny sculptures(雕塑)using all kinds of materials. Sell tickets to your Red Nose Day exhibition and part of the money goes to the Comic Relief charity.
The organization has helped people for more than 20 years. And how much have they collected since the first Red Nose Day Over 600 million! The idea of Red Nose Day has travelled to other countries too. In New Zealand, for example, people have made big red noses which they put on the front of cars and even buildings.
54. What's the purpose of the Comic Relief charity
55. In which silly thing may people pay a fine
56. If you are a member of the Comic Rlief charity, what will you do Why
