(2024·甘肃兰州·一模)If our eyes only saw souls (灵魂) instead of bodies. How differently we would understand the meaning of beauty!
Our house was across the street from a big hospital, so we rented (租) our empty rooms to patients. One evening, there was a knock at the door. I opened it to see a truly sick-looking man.
His face looked terrible, but his voice was pleasant. He told me that he came to see the doctor and that he’d been looking for a room since noon, but no one would give him one because of his face.
For a moment, I hesitated, but he said he would be happy to just sleep on our sofa. I agreed.
The old man had a big heart inside his tiny body. He told me that he fished for a living to support his daughter, her daughter’s five children, and her daughter’s crippled (残疾的) husband.
He didn’t complain while telling me his story. He was happy that he didn’t feel any pain from his disease, skin cancer (皮肤癌).
The next morning, he said. “Can I come back and stay the next time I need to see the doctor ” I told him he was welcome to come again.
On his next trip, as a gift, he brought a big fish. In the years that he stayed with us, there was never a time that he did not bring us gifts like these.
After he left the first morning, my neighbor warned me that I could lose other renters if I let the old man live in. But I know my family always will be happy to have known him; from him we learnt that—we should accept the bad without complaint (抱怨) and the good with gratitude (谢意).

(2024·甘肃平凉·一模)“Without music, life would be a mistake,” German philosopher (哲学家) Friedrich Nietzsche said over a century ago. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some US schools have cut music classes to control budgets (预算).
For example, Chicago Public Schools hurt arts education when it fired (解雇) over 1,000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That’s partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn’t tested.
However, learning music is beneficial in many ways.
When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode (解码) them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.
Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music: Einstein played the violin, and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.

(2024·甘肃酒泉·一模)The spring equinox (春分) happens every year in March. The equinox is not a full day. It is a specific time. It depends on the position of the sun. The equinox happens when the sun crosses the equator (赤道). The equator is an imaginary line. It is drawn around the center of the Earth. It divides Earth into two halves, the Northern and Southern Hemispheres (半球).
The spring equinox 2023 happened at 5:24 in the morning. At this exact moment, the Northern and Southern hemispheres will receive an equal (相等的) amount of sunshine.
Equinoxes happen only twice a year. One equinox happens in March. The other happens in September. This is the autumnal equinox. It is also known as the fall equinox. It marks the beginning of fall for the Northern Hemisphere.
On an equinox, the length of day and night are approximately (近似) equal. This means the equator experiences about 12 hours of daylight. And it experiences about 12 hours of darkness.
The reason an equinox happens has to do with Earth’s axis. The axis is an invisible (看不见的) line. It runs from the North Pole to the South Pole. The planet spins (旋转) around this axis. Earth makes one complete turn around it each day. That is why every part of Earth’s surface gets both day and night.
Earth’s axis has a tilt (倾斜). That’s why different places on Earth experience different amounts of daylight. But during an equinox, this is not the case. The amount of daylight and darkness are nearly equal.
26.Which sentence can exactly describe the equator
A.It marks the beginning of the spring season.
B.It depends on the position of the sun.
C.It divides Earth into two halves, the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

D.Which day in March will the spring equinox happen this year
28.How does the spring equinox affect the equator
A.There is no daylight at the equator during the equinox.
B.There is no darkness at the equator during the equinox.
C.Day and night are almost equal in length at the equator.
D.Day and night last more than 12 hours each at the equator.
29.What does the underlined word “axis” in paragraph 5 mean
A.坐标轴 B.倾斜度 C.角度 D.日照量
30.What does Paragraph 5 mainly tell us

Every school day, we use schoolbags to carry all of our things to school. They are a big part of our lives. But have you ever thought about the history of the schoolbag
In the Han Dynasty, students in old-style private schools used bamboo boxes to carry books to school. People consider the bamboo boxes to be the earliest schoolbags. There were usually two or three layers (层) in the box. Kids put different things like books, brushes, ink stones and paper in the boxes.
Hundreds of years later, people developed a new kind of schoolbag called the “budai”, or the “hip-pocket”. The budai was lighter than the bamboo box. With the founding of China, military rucksacks(军用帆布包)became popular. Many people carried them when they were in school. Ask your grandparents or parents about these bags. Maybe they can tell you about their experiences of carrying them when they were in school.
A new style of schoolbags has appeared in recent years. Many of them have colorful and fashionable designs on them, such as pictures of cartoons or pop stars. Some students pull wheeled bags filled with heavy textbooks and others carry backpacks because they are more comfortable to use.

Then she saw a rainbow. The sky was filled with beautiful colors. Then both ends of the rainbow began to fall to the earth.
The rainbow landed in the garden. Milly went closer and touched the rainbow. She felt nothing, just air.

She dropped to her knees and started to dig. She went deeper and deeper. Then she saw something shiny, under her fingertips. She pulled it out. It was a golden coin, bigger than usual money and much heavier. She made it clean. There were words on it: Make a wish before the rainbow disappears.
“This is amazing! A wish!” Milly said. Her head began to fill with ideas. But then she saw the rainbow becoming smaller and smaller.
“No! I can’t make up my mind! Please wait!”
