1.Whose book is this 这是谁的书?
whose意为“谁的”,在句中作定语,引导疑问句时,所修饰的名词可以紧接whose,也可以放在后面。例如:
Whose notebook is green 谁的笔记本是绿色的?
Whose jacket is this = Whose is this jacket 这是谁的夹克衫?
【注意】who, whom和whose这几个同源词的用法区别:who通常作主语; whom通常作宾语; whose通常作定语。

本单元重点学习情态动词表示推测的用法。
2.It must be Mary’s.它一定是玛丽的。
(1)肯定的推测一般用must, should, may(might)或could(不用can),其中,must的语气最强,意为“肯定,准是,想必是”; should的语气次之,意为“很可能,应该”,指按常理推测; may(might),could的语气最弱,意为“也许; 可能”。例如:
He must/should/may/could know the answer to this question. 他一定/应该/可能/也许知道这个问题的答案。
(2)否定推测分为两种情况。
①语气不是很肯定时,常用may not, might not或could not,意为“可能不; 也许不”。例如:
She may not go to the museum. I’m not sure. 她也许没去博物馆。我不太确定。
②否定语气较强时,则用can’t,意为“根本不可能; 想必不会”。例如:
It can’t/couldn’t be Miss Wang. She has gone to Shanghai for a meeting. 这不可能是王老师,她去上海开会了。
(3)疑问句中的推测,往往用can或could。例如:
Could she have finished the task 她可能把任务完成了吗?
Can she be in the library now 她现在可能在图书馆吗?
(4)对已发生事情的肯定推测常用“must/ may/ might等+完成式”; 否定推测常用“can/ could/ may/ might等+not+完成式”。例如:
It must / may / might / could have snowed last night. The ground is white.
昨晚肯定/可能/也许下雪了。地面是白色的。
The door is locked. She can (could)not / may (might)not have been at home. 门锁着,她不可能/可能不在家。
(5)对现在或将来的推测,情态动词后一般接动词原形; 若表示对正在发生的情况的推测,用“情态动词+be+现在分词”; 若要表示对过去的情况进行推测时,用“情态动词+ have + 过去分词”。例如:
He must be reading newspapers in the reading room now. 他现在一定在阅览室看报纸。
He must have arrived there already. 他一定已经到了那里。
3.Do you have anything valuable in your schoolbag 你的书包里有贵重东西吗?
句中valuable修饰不定代词anything。修饰不定代词的形容词要后置。例如:
Do you have anything special to tell me 你有不寻常的事要告诉我吗?

4.Every night we hear strange noises outside our window. 每天夜里,我们听到窗户外有奇怪的声音。
noise意为“噪声”时,通常为不可数名词; 意为“间断的或者一声声的响声”时,通常为可数名词。例如:

【辨析】noise, voice与sound的用法区别。
①noise侧重指“噪声,嘈杂声,吵闹声”,一般指不悦耳、不和谐的声音。例如:

②voice作“声音”讲时,多指人发出的声音,包括说话声、歌声和笑声等。例如:

【辨析】receive和accept的用法区别。
(1)receive和accept都有“收到”的意思,但用法有差别。receive表示接到他人交给你的东西,是客观上的“收到”; 而accept意为主观上“接受”,表示不仅收到,而且愿意接受这个东西。例如:
Betty has just received a letter from her pen friend.贝蒂刚刚收到来自她笔友的信。
Frank received a tablet from his friend, but he didn’t accept it because it was too expensive.弗兰克收到了一台朋友送给他的平板电脑,但他没有接受,因为太贵了。
(2)表示“接见,接待”时,要用receive而不用accept。例如:
