Suspension bridges, with their high towers and elegant spans(跨度), are achievements of engineering. This list covers the longest main spans of suspension bridges around the world, longest total lengths, as those main central spans are where the real engineering magic happens.
Osman Gazi Bridge, Türkiye
The Osman Gazi Bridge is a splendid suspension bridge. The bridge was finished on July 1, 2016, and at the time, it was the longest suspension bridge in Türkiye and the fourth longest in the world by the length of its main central span, which measures 1,550 meters. It reduced travel time between Istanbul and Izmir from six hours to around five.
Great Belt Bridge, Denmark
The Great Belt Bridge connects the Danish islands Zealand and Funen. The suspension bridge has a total length of 6,790 meters and a main central span of 1,624 meters, making it the world’s sixth longest main span—for now. It enabled a direct driving route from mainland Europe to Sweden through Denmark.
1915 anakkale Bridge, Türkiye
The bridge’s construction, which began in March 2017 and concluded in March 2022, was ambitious from the get-go. Spanning the historic Dardanelles Strait in northwestern Türkiye, the 1915 anakkale Bridge is a symbol of national pride. Officially the world’s longest suspension bridge, it stretches a remarkable 2,023 meters in its main central span.
Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge, China
Opened to traffic in October 2019, the Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, is the longest suspension bridge in China and the third longest suspension in the world. It spans 1,700 meters across the famous Yangtze River. The bridge notably has the world’s longest double-level bridge span, accommodating various forms of transportation on its two levels.

Working at a bank in New York City in the mid-2010s, Anna Sacks was not living the life she wanted. Sure, she was happy. But she wanted to do something that felt important.
Some people seeking meaning might read a self-help book or perhaps volunteer a few hours a week. Sacks packed up her life and moved to Connecticut to participate in Adamah, a farming program that focuses on sustainable living and growing sustainable food. When she returned to New York, her life was with a new purpose and many new skills to make her dreams a reality.
“One of the things that really stuck with me from Adamah was how little waste they produced and how they handled the waste they did have, primarily through composting(堆肥), she says. The Adamah program opened Sacks’ eyes to the damage consumer culture is doing on a local, national, and global level, and the need to find solutions. So in 2017, she began what she calls “trash walking”.
During tours around her community, Sacks picks through garbage to look for reusable items. Soon, her “trash walking” expanded to include corporate trash along with residential trash. Surprisingly, she discovered a wide range of really great stuff-like clothing, decorations, and food, all of which she documents on TikTok.
Under the name The Trash Walker, Sacks quickly gained popularity for her videos that highlight the problems with consumerism. “The root issue is overproduction, which leads to overconsumption, which leads to a large amount of waste,” she says.
The fact is, companies often choose to trash items rather than give them away to people who might need them. A big reason for this waste is the way our current tax laws are structured, Sacks says. Sellers who destroy goods can claim the cost as a loss on their taxes and be refunded. If they give away goods, they can claim only a small amount as a charitable reduction on their taxes.
Sacks’ main focus is simply getting people to pay attention to how many unnecessary things they buy and then throw away. “Once you become aware of the way you consume, you can see ways you improve,” she says.
24.Why did Anna Sacks leave New York
A.To learn how to grow food. B.To pursue a more meaningful life.
C.To realize her dream as a volunteer. D.To accept the invitation from a program.
25.What impressed Anna Sacks most about the Adamah program
A.The significance of trash walking. B.The hard truth of consumer culture.
C.The sustainable food people produced. D.The way people there dealt with the waste.
26.What makes companies prefer to throw out goods as trash
A.The tax refund. B.The tax reduction.
C.The overproduction. D.The poor quality of goods.
27.What can we learn from Anna Sacks’ story
A.Consumer culture accounts for wasting. B.Corporate trash outweighs residential trash.
C.Tuning to farming leads to sustainable living. D.Trash walking is the key to becoming wealthy.

China’s young people have created yet another word to reflect their growing disappointment with the stressful work culture. The new lifestyle hot word, tang ping, is an action rather than a feeling—deciding to just go by, using a minimum effort at an unsatisfactory job.
Wendy said that her lying-down philosophy could be summed up as “Putting the peacefulness of the body and soul first.” “According to the mainstream standard, a good lifestyle must include working hard, trying to get good results on work evaluations, struggling to buy a house and a car, and having babies,” she said, “However, I am looking forward to ‘lying down entirely’—quitting my job and living off my savings.”
Tang ping has come under fire from Chinese state media. “No matter what, young people must have confidence in the future,” read a newspaper. “China is the world’s most populous country, with rich labor resources and a huge market advantage. The only happy life is a hard-working life. “The lying-down community obviously isn’t good for the country’s economic and social development,” said Guangming Daily. However, the newspaper added that tang ping shouldn’t be ignored without reflection: if China wants to encourage hard work in the young generation, it should first try to improve their quality of life.
“The state is worried about what would happen if everyone stopped working,” said Huang Ping, a literature professor. “But humans aren’t merely tools for making things,” he said. To lie down is a reasonable choice rather than a negative attitude. For some young people, it’s a way for them to reduce pressure. “When you can’t catch up with society’s development—say, high house prices—tang ping is actually the most practical choice.” he said.
Lying down can be seen as the opposite of involution(内卷), referring to societies becoming trapped in continual cycles of competition. “In a relatively good social environment, people may feel involuted, but at least they’re trying” he said. “If it’s worse, people will tang ping.”
Alternatively, the more motivated among the young generation have accepted FIRE—“Financial Independence, Retire Early”—in the hope of someday escaping the severe competition once and for all.
28.What is Wendy’s goal in life
A.To keep up with society’s development. B.To depend on her savings to live.
C.To get promoted in her company. D.To be highly evaluated at work.
29.What do state media think the young should do
A.Improve their quality of life. B.Reflect on China’s development.
C.Base their future on hard work. D.Live a happy life by lying down.
30.What does Professor Huang think of the “lying down” style
A.It means low quality of life for the young. B.It prevents the development of society.
C.It motivates the young to welcome their future. D.It removes the heavy life pressure from the young.
31.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A.A healthy society doesn’t involve competition.
B.Young people prefer involution to tang ping.
C.Severe competition is the main cause of lying down.
D.More active young people favour severe competition.

In order to survive trips to Mars, humans need oxygen. Now, a team of scientists has designed a robot that could extract oxygen from water on the Red Planet.
The robot, which is called “AI chemist”, used a machine learning model to find a compound that could ignite an oxygen-producing chemical reaction on Mars. The compound, known as a catalyst(催化剂), is made entirely from elements found in Martian meteorites(陨石)—which means, if such a system could work reliably, space travelers would not need to bring oxygen or even the catalyst needed to produce it.
Mars’ atmosphere contains only trace amounts of oxygen. But scientists have detected evidence of liquid water beneath the planet’s southern ice cap. To create the breathable gas, researchers wanted to find a way to break down this water into its hydrogen and oxygen molecules using materials found on Mars.
Their robot analyzed five meteorites that either came from Mars or had a composition similar to that of the Martian surface. Using a laser, it identified significant amounts of iron, nickel, calcium, magnesium, aluminum and manganese in the samples. From these six elements, the robot’s algorithm(算法)determined it could produce more than 3.7 million possible molecules to break down water and form oxygen on Mars. According to the researchers, finding the best one from this extensive list would take roughly 2,000 years of human labor, but for the AI chemist, it took only weeks.
“On Earth, we don’t use these six elements,” Yi Luo, a co-author of the study says. “They are not the best choices for catalysts, but it’s only what you’ve got on Mars.”
With its chosen catalyst, the system could produce oxygen from the Martian materials at around -37℃, demonstrating the chemical reaction could be possible on the cold Martian surface.
Notably, the robot was able to carry out the entire process—analyzing the rock samples, identifying the best possible catalyst and producing it without human intervention.
32.What does the underlined word “ignite” mean in paragraph 2
A.Delay. B.Limit. C.Change. D.Cause.
33.What is the basis of extracting oxygen on Mars
A.The oxygen that Mars’ atmosphere contains. B.The scientists’ previous study on meteorites.
C.The existence of water and catalyst on Mars. D.The amazing learning ability of “AI chemist”.
34.What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A.The finding of six elements. B.The advantages of the robots.
C.The formation of the meteorites. D.The process of producing oxygen.
35.What is the writer’s attitude towards “AI chemist”
A.Doubtful. B.Favorable. C.Unclear. D.Indifferent.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In a world obsessed with “more” it’s easy to overlook the power of subtraction(减法). We’re constantly bombed with messages telling us that we need more stuff, more money, and more followers. 36 Let’s explore the power of subtraction, and how less can truly mean more.
We all have too much stuff. It’s time to clear up. Donate or sell what you don’t need or love. You’ll be amazed at how liberating it feels to live with less. 37 The fewer possessions you have, the more you’ll appreciate what truly matters.
In today’s fast-paced world, our attention is a valuable commodity. 38 For example, excessive social media scrolling, watching TV shows nonstop or focusing too much attention on insignificant tasks is time-consuming. Subtract these time wasters and redirect your focus toward more meaningful pursuits.
39 Assess the people in your life and determine who uplifts you and who brings you down. Identify who helps contribute to your success and who holds you back. Subtract the poisonous individuals and invest more time and energy into the friendships that genuinely enrich your life.
Our minds are often filled with worries, negative thoughts, and self-doubt. Learning to let go of this mental mess can significantly improve our overall well-being. Practice mindfulness techniques, such as yoga, to help clear your mind. 40
A.But what if more means a richer life
B.But what if less is the secret to happiness
C.Try to subtract your unhealthy habits from your life.
D.Identify meaningless activities that occupy your time.
E.We must admit not all relationships are worth keeping.
F.Embrace minimalism and focus on quality over quantity.
G.Thus, you’ll make room for more optimism and creativity.

第二节(满分25分)
My family moved from Taiwan to a small town in central Georgia, where my dad got a visa for his family and a job. I had just learned English, and from what little I could gather from my friends. Santa Claus would come down one’s chimney and put toys in one’s stocking on Christmas Eve! What a great country, I thought. After I looked up “stocking” in my Chinese-English dictionary, I knew what I had to do and always expected that day.
Finally, the big day came. On that wonderful night, after everyone went to bed, I sneaked out of bed, took my longest, cleanest knee sock and attached it to a nail already on the mantel(壁炉).
Obviously, the previous owners of this house were no strangers to this Santa character. Gazing at the sock and imagining the delicately-packed gift in it, I couldn’t help giggling(咯咯笑). For the first time, I found it hard to fall asleep.
And for the first time, I woke up before everyone else in the early morning. Then I headed straight to the fireplace and was even ready for what to say after seeing the gift. However, what happened next was the least thing I wanted to mention. On the nail was the empty and lonely sock. I was hit with the reality of the empty sock and the biggest lie ever told. I tried my best to hold back my tears but failed. Bursting into tears, I quickly took down the sock and stuffed it in the back of a drawer.
Every December since then, the topic of Christmas memories would unavoidably come up, and I would amuse my friends with my poor-little-me story. I had to make it as funny as possible, or else I would cry once again. I didn’t know whether any of my audience ever noticed the sparkling tears hidden in my eyes.
How could I know that Santa was just late Nine years ago, on Christmas Eve, I heard a knock on the door when I was watching TV. Unwillingly, I dragged my feet and opened the door.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150词左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Outside the door stood an old man with a white beard and a red cap, holding a well-packed box.
Through tear-blurred eyes, I recognized the handwriting on the card.

Dear Mr. Smith,
I was shocked at the news about the hurricane in your hometown. It’s understandable that you sink into sadness.
Upon hearing the news, all the students in our school volunteer to lend a helping hand. We have raised some money, which will be put into your bank account. Besides, we have also collected some basic necessities, such as clothes and tents for the victims. We hope our small deeds can be of some help.
Great damage as the hurricane has caused, I firmly believe things will get better. Cheer up and pick up your courage to restore peace and harmony to your family. Anyway, there will always be a silver tint in the clouds of grief!
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写参考范文:
Outside the door stood an old man with a white beard and a red cap, holding a well-packed box. Wearing a radiant smile, the man reached out his hands, passed the box to me and grinned. “Christmas gift for you”. Shocked at the unexpected guest and gift, I was at a loss what to say. The moment he blended into the darkness, I untied the ribbon with heart thumping wildly. Inside the box lay a teddy bear I had longed for with an attached card. Once again, I couldn’t contain my tears.
Through tear-blurred eyes, I recognized the handwriting on the card. It was a friend of mine and I later discovered that the man was her father. She was one of the audience of my sad story. The card read: “Sorry, I’m late. Merry Christmas.” I wiped away tears, held the box tightly and felt a surge of warmth. Christmas memories of this year wouldn’t be a bitter joke but a miracle which witnessed a healed heart. So now I believe Santa is real. This Santa doesn’t come down our chimneys, but lives inside good and thoughtful people who really listen to friends, and then plan deliberate acts of kindness.
