Activity 4
2.What do you think of Pip based on his family background and what he did
As a parentless boy, he himself struggled to live under his sister’s roof, which explains his timid and obedient characteristics. Also, when confronting a possible criminal alone, there was no better way out except to do whatever he was asked to. Taking these factors into account, I think what Pip did is reasonable and understandable.

If Pip was caught stealing food, there was no doubt that his bad-tempered sister would have given him a good spanking. Besides, Pip might have been assigned more housework to make up for his mistakes. However, his good-natured brother-in-law Joe would try his best to offer some comfort to Pip.

Activity 5
2. Imagine you were Pip, would you choose to help the stranger Why or why not
If I were Pip, I would also promise the Stranger to keep his secret and help him. Because I was just a little boy and I was threatened by a potential criminal, the priority was to get myself out of the dangerous situation and then I would take action to keep myself away from the Stranger’s sight just as Pip did. But if there was any chance that I would meet the Stranger again, I would call the police for help.
