As the Winter Olympic Games continue in China, here are some of the different technologies being used in Beijing.
Robots
Different kinds of robots have been used to help visitors and athletes. Some machines are being used to satisfy social distancing requirements related to COVID-19. Robots are also transporting equipment, cleaning surfaces and preparing and carrying food to limit human-to-human contact.
Smart beds
At the Winter Olympic Village, the athletes are sleeping on “smart beds” with sensors(传感器). The devices collect information on things like breathing and heart rates. They also have controls to allow users to choose sleeping positions, including one called “zero gravity”. That setting is supposed to reduce pressure(压力) on muscles and joints(关节) and support higher quality sleep.
These high-tech beds are very different from the lower-tech versions(版本) provided for Olympic athletes at last year’s Tokyo Games. The beds used in Japan were made of cardboard material, which received wide attention for being so unusual.
Digital currency(数字货币)
China’s digital money will be in use at the Olympics in the currency’s first main test with foreigners. Visitors can use digital yuan to pay for food, transportation and other goods and services. Users can get the currency by downloading an app, getting a digital yuan card or by exchanging foreign currency into digital form through machines in Olympic areas.
App monitoring
All Olympic players must use an app, called MY2022, for daily monitoring for COVID-19. The app allows users to send personal health information every day as a requirement to take part in the Games. The system is part of China’s aggressive effort to limit the spread of the virus during the Games.

Seahorses are small, thin fish. They’re called “seahorses” because they look a bit like horses. Although they’re fish, seahorses aren’t great swimmers. They often use their tail to hold onto something in the water. There are over 40 different kinds of seahorses. Many kinds of them are in danger.
On July 18,2023, Australian scientists released (释放) hundreds of baby White’s seahorses into the wild. White’s seahorses are mainly found near Sydney, Australia. In 2020, these seahorses were named the second most endangered kind of seahorse in the world. That’s partly because of pollution, and partly because many of the areas where they live, like seagrasses and
coral reefs, have been lost.
To begin the project, scientists collected three pregnant (怀孕的) male seahorses in January. Those seahorses were brought back to the aquarium (水族馆) at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS).
After the babies were born, the scientists kept them at the aquarium for five months, feeding the baby seahorses tiny shrimp (small shellfish) to help them grow strong. Scientist Mitchell Brennan says, “They don’t have a stomach, so they have to eat continuously (连续地).”
About a month before the young seahorses were released, the scientists created eight underwater “hotels” for them, The hotels looked a little like cages, and provided a safe place for the seahorses to develop. Putting the hotels into the sea early allowed the cages to be covered with small sea life that could help provide food for the seahorses.
The scientists have released seahorses into the area five times, but this time was a record. Around 380 seahorses were released and about 90% of them survived. The researchers put tiny tags (标签) under the skin of many of the seahorses to help track (追踪) them in the future.
The scientists are hoping that the young seahorses will grow and reproduce in large numbers. Brett Fenton, who works for SIMS. says. “It is highly expected that we’ll see the animals do well over the next 12 months.”
29.What do we know about White’s seahorses
A.They are facing dangers. B.They are good swimmers.
C.They are found worldwide. D.They disappeared in the wild.
30.What did the scientists do to help the young seahorses survive

C.Prepare underwater habitats (栖息地) for them. D.Feed tiny shrimp to them monthly.
31.What made this seahorse release special
A.The timing of the release.
B.The location of the release.
C.The number of pregnant seahorses released.
D.The survival rate (存活率) of seahorses released.

Airships were popular in the early 1900s. These aircraft can fly because they are filled with
lighter-than-air gases. Each of them has a frame and a cabin (机舱) below the main body. Pilots and passengers are carried in this cabin.
Back in the 1900s, most airships were filled with hydrogen (氢气). The gas burns easily. In 1937, an airship called the Hindenburg caught fire during landing. Thirty-six people died as a result. The sad thing scared people away from airships. At that time, planes were improving quickly. Since then, people have been using planes for most air travel.
Now, an American company called Lighter Than Air (LTA) Research wants to change that. LTA has been working on its airship, Pathfinder 1, for about ten years.
The new airship, about 122 meters long, is the largest of its kind since the 1930s. It uses helium (氮气). This gas is also lighter than air but does not burn. The helium fills 13 separate parts of the airship. About 10,000 long carbon fiber tubes (碳纤维管) make up a strong frame to protect these parts. The airship is powered by 12 electric motors. The electricity comes from either batteries or generators (发电机). With these motors, the airship can take off and land without a runway.
Pathfinder 1 can carry about 4 tons of goods. It can fly at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. Last November, the airship made its first test flights in California. In time, LTA hopes to show that their airships can be used to move goods quickly without polluting the air.
33.What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.Planes were improving quickly after the airship had a crash.
B.People preferred to travel by plane rather than by airship for safety.
C.LTA has been working on its airship for about ten years.
D.Airships were uncomfortable and not big enough for pilots and passengers to stay in.
34.How does the author describe the new airship in Paragraph 4
A.By listing numbers. B.By giving examples.
C.By raising questions. D.By making comparisons.
35.Which of the following statements about Pathfinder 1 is NOT true
A.The airship can take off and land without a runway.
B.The airship is much safer because the gas hydrogen doesn’t burn.
C.The airship can carry plenty of goods and can fly at high speed.
D.The airship is much more environmentally friendly.
36.How does LTA feel about the future of Pathfinder 1
A.Worried. B.Doubtful. C.Uncertain. D.Confident.

Now that the weather is starting to get warmer, plants are slowly waking up. 37 Check out these four tips!
Repot your plants. As green plants wake up, they are starting to stretch (伸展) and grow new shoots. It is the perfect time to repot (给……换大盆) your plants. 38 Plants prefer their roots to be slightly bound (束缚). Therefore, the new pot shouldn’t be too much larger than the old one.
Do spring cleaning. Spring is the season for cleaning. Cleaning the dust off the leaves helps your plants take in more sunlight. You can gently clean both sides of the leaves with a wet cloth. Some people take their plants into the bathroom and give them a gentle shower.
Feed your plants. Spring is the time when all plants say, “Feed me!” You can buy an organic fertilizer (有机肥料) and feed your plants with it. It’s also a good idea to make your own fertilizer from compost (堆肥) or coffee grounds. Start with a small amount of fertilizer, and slowly increase it to the full amount by the summer. 39
40 Before watering your plant, you need to check the soil first. This will tell you if you need to water now or to wait. To do this, simply push your finger about an inch down into the soil. Because of the increasingly hot weather, plants usually need more water in spring. However, watering plants too much is a leading cause of losing houseplants. So be careful not to overwater.
A.Check the soil first.

根据“In 1937, an airship called the Hindenburg caught fire during landing. Thirty-six people died as a result. The sad thing scared people away from airships. At that time, planes were improving quickly. Since then, people have been using planes for most air travel.”
根据“The new airship, about 122 meters long,”、“The helium fills 13 separate parts of the airship. About 10,000 long carbon fiber”以及“The airship is powered by 12 electric motors.” 故选A。
根据“This gas is also lighter than air but does not burn.”
根据“In time, LTA hopes to show that their airships can be used to move goods quickly without polluting the air.”

37.根据“Now that the weather is starting to get warmer, plants are slowly waking up.”
38.根据“It is the perfect time to repot (给……换大盆) your plants.”
39.根据“Start with a small amount of fertilizer, and slowly increase it to the full amount by the summer.”
40.根据“Before watering your plant, you need to check the soil first.”
41.were created 42.people’s 43.eighth 44.says 45.fishermen 46.are 47.to make 48.rapidly 49.more important 50.will be
they指代“24 solar terms”,与动词create之间是被动关系,结合“Thousands of years ago”可知,此处用一般过去时被动语态,根据they可知,助动词用were,故填were created。
此句是一般现在时,and连接并列主语,be动词用are,故填are。
固定句式:It’s+形容词+to do sth表示“做某事是……
51.it necessary to make up another two stories/it was necessary to make up another two stories/it necessary to make up two more stories/it was necessary to make up two more stories
【详解】必要的:necessary;编造:make up;再两个故事:another two stories/two more stories。 根据主句用一般过去时,所以从句中的be用过去式,故填it necessary to make up another two stories/it was necessary to make up another two stories/it necessary to make up two more stories/it was necessary to make up two more storie。
52.difficult it is for us to have a big impact on/hard it is for us to have a big impact on/hard it is for us to have a huge influence on
【详解】句子为how引导的感叹句,所以后接形容词difficult或hard表示“困难的”,it is + adj. + for sb. to do sth.表示“做某事对某人来说……”,其中人称代词宾格应用us表示“我们”,动词不定式应用to have a big impact on或have a huge influence on表示“对……产生巨大的影响”。故填difficult/hard it is for us to have a big/huge impact/influence on。
53.an honest person that we all trust her
故填an honest person that we all trust her。
54.will eat some nice food to cheer myself up/will eat something nice to cheer myself up
【详解】根据句意可知,空格处为“会吃一些美食让自己振作起来”;“会”will;“吃一些美食” eat some nice food/eat something nice;“让自己振作起来”cheer myself up,代词放中间;cheer前应用to,不定式表目的。故填will eat some nice food to cheer myself up/will eat something nice to cheer myself up。
55.how long your relatives have been on vacation to Hainan
【详解】此处用how long引导宾语从句,宾语从句用陈述语序,且从句用现在完成时have/has done,主语是your relatives,助动词用have;去海南度假:be on vacation to Hainan。故填how long your relatives have been on vacation to Hainan。
56.will travel at the speed of light
【详解】“以光速”at the speed of light;“运行”travel。根据“in the future”可知从句用一般将来时,其结构为will do。故填will travel at the speed of light。
