AI technology has been used in many fields, and it is now playing an increasingly important role in
matters of public interest.
A group of students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST)has developed
an AI system that restores(修复)old photos of missing children.Until now, they have been providing
technological support for many parents with over 1,000 restored photos and helped reunite (使重聚)11
missing children with their families.
The team was set up by Sheng Jianzhong three years ago, when he was a student at HUST.He first thought to restore photographs of missing children when he came across a missing child notice with a poor-quality photo in 2020.As he was studying digital image processing(数字图像处理)at school,he
decided to use his skills to help the parents restore their images.
But the system cannot be completed by one person alone.Luckily, many like-minded students soon
volunteered to join Sheng's project.
After six months of hard work, they produced an image restoration AI system that solved the problem of unclear faces in photographs.A restored image can be generated in just a few minutes
Parents can then print the high-quality images of their missing children onto T-shirts or large posters.
In many cases, the team doesn't have direct contact with the families. And sometimes the families don't even know the team has helped them.“But we still feel satisfied, and we are happy for them,”

Our parents and teachers always tell us that working hard is the key to success.Yes,in many ways,
hard work does lead to success.
17 Allow me to explain it with the following example.A person who wants to succeed knows clearly where he is and where he wants to go.That is,he needs to go from Point A to Point B. There are a few choices to this person. He may choose to run.He may work hard on it and get closer to his destination(目的地)slowly, perhaps at 5 kilometers an hour.Or he may choose to drive at 100
kilometers an hour. 18
Which means of transportation would you choose to reach your destination When put this way, isn't the answer clear The choice you make is important! If you choose the right way to go,the right area for you,and the right method of solving a problem, you will succeed more quickly and smoothly. However,if you make the wrong choice,no matter how hard you work, you will still be miles away from
where you want to go.
I agree that putting in effort is important. 19 Once the direction is right, working hard on it will
increase the speed of reaching your goal.
However,it is not easy to find the right direction. 20 .Always keep your goal in mind and put
effort into it.Then you will find your right direction.
A.That does not mean you should give up looking for it. B.How can the person get to Point B in the shortest time C.Finally,he may choose to fly at 1,000 kilometers an hour. D.But making right choices is just like setting right directions. E.Yet,have you ever thought that making right choices is as important

Do you speak a dialect(方言)in daily life Since many Chinese people speak Mandarin(普通话), some dialects are in danger of disappearing. In order to save dialects, the Chinese government set up the
National Language Resources (资源)Protection Project a few years ago.
This project keeps carrying out surveys(调查)and protecting
China's language resources. It has studied how people talk in over
1,700 places.Their languages include 103 dialects that are almost
gone. The project has helped China to have the largest language
resource library in the world. There is an online library where people can learn dialects by watching over
5 million videos and listening to over 5.6 million audio clips(音频片段).
Why is it so important to protect the dialect culture According to the British linguist (语言学家) Harold Palmer, the dialect is a key to local culture,as language can show the history and beliefs of an area.Chinese linguist Zhang Hongming talked about his worries about the disappearing of dialects."In the Wu dialect areas such as Shanghai and Suzhou, children aged 6 to 15 can understand the dialect but hardly speak it.And young people above 15 years old sometimes speak it,but not very well.If this
continues, the dialect might disappear in the future,”he said.
So how did China make this big library A national effort was put into the project to make it happen. More than 350 universities and research groups took part in the project, along with over 4,500 experts
and more than 6,000 dialect speakers.
The project is now entering into its second part. This includes creating digital (数字化的)tools like
apps and mobile dictionaries to help people learn dialects.
