一、教材内容分析
本单元的中心话题是“地震”，阅读部分标题为“地球的一个不眠之夜”，主要叙述的是1976年7月28日发生在河北省唐山市的大地震。全文分震前、震中、震后三个部分，叙述了整个过程。全文分为四段：第一段讲地震前夕，唐山地区发生的一系列反常现象，但并未引起人们的警觉。第二段讲唐山大地震的发生以及大地震造成的伤亡。第三段讲震后发生了强烈余震，幸存者感到惊恐与不安。第四段讲在解放军和各地支援帮助下，被地震摧毁的城市又开始得以复苏。
二、教学目标
[课标要求]
课标要求高中英语课程应强调在发展学生综合语言运用能力的基础上，着重提高学生用英语获取信息、处理信息、分析问题和解决问题的能力，特别注重提高学生用英语进行思维和表达的能力；
[具体分析教学目标]
（1）知识技能：
1.了解唐山大地震的先兆、地震造成的损失及救灾等情况，培养学生获取信息和处理信息的能力。
2. 通过略读找到每段的主题句；通过查读掌握细节；通过细读，理解课文标题的含义
（2）过程方法：
理解关键语句和数字等所表达的特殊感情。
（3）情感、态度、价值观：
1. 通过了解唐山大地震前兆，培养学生对自然灾害的应对意识和能力
2. 通过灾后重建，使学生树立战胜自然灾害的信心
三、学情分析
1班学生有一定的英语学习热情，一部分学生的基础较好，能主动配合老师，愿意开口说英语。但班里也有一部分学生英语基础薄弱，主动学习的动力不够。经过初中的英语学习，他们已经掌握了一定的阅读技巧。针对1班学生的特点只有设置使他们感兴趣的活动，因材施教，才能让他们投入到课堂活动中来。
