模拟精编—优中选优 夯实技能举一反三
1. (2023四省联考)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My husband and I enjoy seeing life through the eyes of our children. It’s amazing to watch as they discover their world.
While we were outdoors last summer enjoying the sunshine, our oldest daughter, Kaytlin, called me to the doorway. Beneath the steps was a baby red squirrel.
We watched it from a distance, not wanting to disturb it or scare off its mother. But after a long wait—and looking all around our house for signs of a nest or a mother—we realized the tiny squirrel was lost.
Shaking terribly, he was weak, thin, and hungry. We tried to find an expert to help, but the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website showed that there were no wildlife experts in our area. After some quick research, we concluded that the best way to give the squirrel a fighting chance was to care for him ourselves. So a trip to the local store for milk and supplies was in order. More research taught us how much to feed him, how to estimate his age, how and when to wean (断奶) him, and that we should let him go as soon as he could survive on his own.
Our daughters and I took turns in feeding “Squirt.” Kaytlin took on the most responsibility. She taught him to eat from a bottle, and she woke in the night for his feeds.
To our relief, Squirt soon became healthy and strong. Within a few weeks he became more active. He would
chatter (吱吱叫) for his next meal, playfully go around the girls, and lie down on them for sleep. It wasn’t long before he was weaned onto solid food and reintroduced to the wild.
His first few visits to the great outdoors were funny. Just like a child, he would play in the grass some and then run back to Kaytlin for safety. Soon she had him climbing trees and finding nest material.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________One night, Squirt didn’t come back to our house and it rained hard.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】
One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. But the family was none too happy about his visit. They scolded and swatted at him. At first Squirt was so unhappy that he avoided them. And then he quickly learned some social skills. He would take some snacks to meet them. For several days he played all day in the trees surrounding our house but came down at bedtime.
One night, Squirt didn’t come back to our house and it rained hard. Our girls fretted. They wanted to seek Squirt. We prevented them because it was too dangerous. But when the sun rose the next day, there was Squirt, begging for food. And that remained the pattern for weeks. The experience was entertaining and heartwarming for our family. In the wild and somewhat silly moments of raising an orphaned baby squirrel, our children learned to value and appreciate life.

Once upon a time, there was a small village in the heart of a big jungle on a land far away. Surrounded by mountains and in the shade of green trees, the villagers lived a happy life. All of them were used to their robotic daily tasks and none of them had the imagination or the will to try something new, except for one girl named Hannah,
Hannah was an adventurous spirit with an imagination far beyond her time. She loved to explore and would spend hours in the woods looking for new things. She loved to create stories in her head and used to imagine herself as one of her characters. One afternoon, when Hannah was on one of her adventures, she came upon an abandoned cottage. The cottage looked very old in its condition. The door was barely hanging and the wood was chipping away. Even though Hannah’s mother had strictly warned her not to go wandering in abandoned places , her curiosity got the best of her. She tip-toed (蹑手蹑脚) slowly to the door and slowly opened it and she was left shocked. In front of Hannah was a room full of books! Books shining in the dust, basking in the warm sunlight just waiting to be
explored. Hannah’ s excitement was visible on her face as she jumped up and down with joy!
Hannah became excited as she realized that she had found a hidden treasure. She knew in her heart that she had to read all of them so she quickly got to work. She dusted the books, the shelves, and what was left of the furniture. Hannah swept and dusted all day long until she realized that it was dark and she had to go back to her home. But she couldn’t get herself to leave without at least reading one. So Hannah picked two books and decided to read them at her home.
She met her friends on the way home who were curious about what Hannah was carrying. In her excitement, Hannah shared everything with her friends. She was thinking that her friends will share her excitement but instead, she heard roars of laughter!

【答案】
Hannah was confused by this reaction and a little hurt too, but she did not give up her books. She went home and all night long, she read the adventurous tales hidden in the book cover. The next day, she quickly finished her breakfast and made her way to the cottage again. There she read different stories. Hannah’s imagination took her to a different world. She was so inspired by the books that the characters and the stories within them became her mentor. She learned a lot from them.
She wanted to fire the curiosity and imagination in her friends. Making this her mission, Hannah started telling tales every day at her cottage. She added her own touch of curiosity every now and then to different stories, making
them more interesting. In the beginning, only her very good friends came to the readings. But to her excitement, the word of her famous tales spread rapidly, causing more and more people to come to the readings. Seeing the interest of people, Hannah started writing stories of her own too! Soon, the word of Hannah’s storytelling spread to far-off towns.

I remember that I was worn out when I got home that afternoon. I'd had to be at the theatre for the audition (试
演) at nine that morning, and then I'd been waiting around for about three hours before the director finally saw me. I performed my song and almost at once he told me I could go home. “I am very sorry,”he said,“but your voice isn't quite right for the part.”It had been a similar story at all the auditions that I'd done over the past few weeks.
It had been my dream for years to be in a famous musical like The Sound of Music or Mamma Mia, so I'd taken lessons in singing and dancing, and had come to the city to try and get a part in a show. I'd been really pleased when I'd managed to set up no fewer than ten auditions, but so far all of them had gone the same way. As I arrived back that afternoon at the little apartment where I rented a room, I really wondered whether I should bother going to the eleventh the next morning. It was a show I'd have loved to be in — but really, what was the point Someone I knew had told me about a job at a local coffee shop, and had said that if I called in for a quick chat at ten the next day, I'd almost certainly get the job. It meant missing the audition, but right now, it seemed like a much more sensible thing to do.
I always sing when I need to cheer myself up, and because there was no one else in the apartment, I slipped off my shoes, went and stood in front of the mirror and started singing.Quite quickly I found myself belting out (大声唱) one of my favourite songs, Bridge over Troubled Water. As I finished the song, I suddenly heard applause. I looked around the room thinking that my roommate had perhaps slipped in without me noticing — but there was nobody. Then I went over to the open window of the apartment, and saw an elderly woman standing on the far side of the pavement below, looking up at me.

【答案】范文
She reached her arms up towards me with a great smile on her face. I was taken aback by her unexpected gesture of appreciation. Her eyes sparkled with admiration as she shouted from below, “You have a voice of an angel, my dear! Keep singing, don’t ever stop!” The unexpected support from a stranger was like a beacon of light in the midst of my doubts and disappointments. I felt a surge of confidence and determination washing over me. With renewed spirit, I made up my mind to go all out for the audition the next day.
The next day I went to the eleventh audition. As I walked into the theatre, I felt a newfound sense of purpose and self-assurance. The director greeted me with a warm smile, and this time, as I sang my heart out, I could feel the magic in the air. When I finished, there was a moment of silence before the room erupted into applause. The director’s eyes were shining with excitement as he said, “You’ve got the part! Welcome to the show!” It was at that moment that I realized dreams really did come true, and all it took was a little courage and belief in oneself.

My political career in the Student Union(SU)began by throwing frisbees (飞盘) on the campus lawn. I would throw a frisbee to someone I didn’t know and they would throw it to someone they didn’t know. Before long, we had built a community of people who met every day at lunch to throw frisbees.
Besides frisbees, the group decided to climb the mountain near our campus. When we reached the peak, it felt like we were at summer camp. We laughed, danced and told jokes. It was totally fun. While playing like little children in the cool mountain air, we all decided to do it again the following week. Our motto (座右铭) was “Bring a Friend” . We started out with a small group of hikers. But as the word spread, the number of participants increased. We made it a rule to climb the mountain every weekend. All of us were passionate about the fantastic experience, which we were looking forward to.
One day on campus, I decided to throw my frisbee to some strangers, run over and invite them to climb the mountain. Much to my surprise, a girl sitting in a wheelchair got hold of it. Her name was Grace. I asked her if she had ever been to the top of the mountain. She said she hadn’t. Holding the wheelchair tightly, she hung down her head in awkward silence. Then she told me that she had suffered from lung disease when she was young and depended on oxygen twenty-four hours a day. So, it was impossible for her to move without help. Fortunately, things got better.
With continuous efforts and treatment, she managed to live on her own with the assistance of the wheelchair: I told her that my friends and I would carry her if she were up for it. On hearing what I said, she refused without hesitation, adding that it would be a bother to carry her. But I tried my best to persuade her to come along with us by talking about the interesting experiences.

【答案】
Having thought for a while, Grace still refused my offer. Looking at her depressed and embarrassed expression, I didn’t want to quit persuading her. I showed her some pictures that were taken during our trip. She smiled, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Ultimately, I made it. On that appointed day, I, together with several friends, offered continuous assistance to her. With our joint efforts, we made it to the top of the mountain and admired the fantastic scenery. A sense of excitement took hold of her, tears rolling down her cheeks like broken pearls. She was so grateful to us and we became close friends.
On the downhill path, Grace asked me why not run for the SU election. However, I didn’t have enough courage to run for it. Knowing I was in a dilemma, Grace had a sincere communication with me. “So kind and friendly are you that you helped me to enjoy the beautiful scenery and plan the weekend activity carefully. I am firmly convinced that you are capable of the work in the SU,” she said in a gentle voice. Inspired by her encouragement, I made a resolution to have a try. Having made full preparations, I was chosen chairman of the SU, which was beyond my expectations. Indeed, it is the mutual trust and help between friends that do make a great difference to us.

I stood in the restaurant kitchen, my eyes wide, arms hanging awkwardly, ready to work but unsure of what to do. “You will be trained first,” my manager Aaron said, “and do remember to check every detail!” With these words, he walked away.
A workmate threw me a dish brush and said, “Let’s get started.” He introduced me to the basics of washing dishes and demonstrated the process. This was the beginning of my part-time job, a new stage where I was both eager to learn and anxious about the challenges ahead.
On a Friday night, Aaron swiftly entered the kitchen. “Who has just bused (收拾) the back right table ” he shouted, his voice sharp with urgency. My hands, slippery with bubbles from the bowl I was washing, nearly let it slip through my fingers. I wanted to say I was guilty, but Aaron’s cold stare didn’t promise a happy reward for the guy who admitted. Finally, a mix of fear and my own conscience pushed the response out of my mouth.
“I did, Aaron.”
“What were you thinking Get back out here and look at what you missed!” His words forced me forward. I grabbed a rag (抹布) and followed him out to table twenty-two. As we made our way through the restaurant, he said something about rags, but I didn’t hear clearly with other conversations going on around us.
I quickly realized the true issue was the mess beneath the table. A nearly full cup of beer had tipped over,
creating a small lake on the floor. It was a significant mistake on my part. “Take care of it!” Aaron tuned and stormed off to the front of the restaurant.
I dropped down to clean up the beer. That was when another problem occurred. I had brought only one rag. One already wet rag. It did nothing but increase the size of the lake. “More rags,” I thought. Immediately, I rushed into the kitchen and hurriedly grabbed five dry rags, hoping Aaron wouldn’t notice my brief absence.

【答案】
I had just rushed out when I found Aaron standing in my way. “What’s up” he asked sharply, his eyes fixed on me. Feeling the weight of my mistake, I stammered nervously, “I need dry rags...to...clean...” Upon hearing this, Aaron let out a heavy sigh. “You should have checked every detail,” he remarked, a hint of disappointment in his voice. “This job isn’t just about reacting, it’s also about being careful. Now, go clean that up!” Avoiding his gaze, I dashed towards table twenty-two. With an ample supply of rags, I threw myself into the task, tirelessly mopping, scrubbing, and wiping.
After cleaning up the mess, I reflected on Aaron’s words. They were sharp but absolutely right. My inexperience and initial anxiety in this new job had led me to overlook crucial details, and I should have been more mindful of my work. Taking a deep breath, I returned to my duties, bearing Aaron’s words in mind. With very dish washed and every table cleared, I made sure to double-check my work. Everything went well and soon I realized this carefulness would not just apply to cleaning; it would influence every aspect of my job, preparing me to embrace any challenge with responsibility and confidence.

He would chatter (吱吱叫) for his next meal, playfully go around the girls, and lie down on them for sleep. It wasn’t long before
he was weaned onto solid food and reintroduced to the wild.
His first few visits to the great outdoors were funny. Just like a child, he would play in the grass some and then run back to Kaytlin for safety. Soon she had him climbing trees and finding nest material.

Books shining in the dust, basking in the warm sunlight just waiting to be explored.
So Hannah picked two books and decided to read them at
her home.
She met her friends on the way home who were curious about what Hannah was carrying. In her excitement, Hannah shared everything with her friends. She was thinking that her friends will share her excitement but instead, she heard roars of laughter!

I remember that I was worn out when I got home that afternoon. I'd had to be at the theatre for the audition (试演) at nine that morning, and then I'd been waiting around for about three hours before the director finally saw me.

All of us were passionate about the fantastic
experience, which we were looking forward to.

This was the beginning of my part-time job, a new stage where I was both
eager to learn and anxious about the challenges ahead.
A nearly full cup of beer had tipped over, creating a small lake on the floor.
