although
当although引导的让步状语从句放在句首时,
主从句之间要用逗号隔开。
Although I gave him some advice, he didn’t take it.
Although he was ill, he still went to school.
【注意】
句中如果有although, though,则不能再用but。
在一般情况下可以和though互换,
但though比较口语化,而although较为正式。
Although/Though he is very old, he is still strong.
Using “although / though”
Using “until”
until...
until... 意为“直到...”,
主句是肯定句,谓语用延续性动词。
They continued until they came to a river.
他们继续往前直到来到河边。
until引导的时间状语从句,
主句为一般将来时,从句要用一般现在时表示将来。
I'll wait until you come back. 我会一直等直到你回来。
not...until... 意为“直到...才...”,
主句是否定句,谓语用非延续性动词。
We can't get off the bus until it stops.
直到公共汽车停了我们才能下车。
Using “so that / so...that”
so that / so...that
so... that...引导结果状语从句,
陈述的是客观事实,常常不带情态动词。
The box is so heavy that we can't carry it.
这个箱子太重了,我们搬不动它。
so that引导目的状语从句,表示“以便;为了”。
表示动机(即一种可能性),而非事实。
因此,从句中常带有can, will, could, would, should等情态动词。so that= in order that.
I took a taxi so that I could get there earlier.
我坐了出租车,以便早点到那里。
