Reading is fun! Besides for fun, we can also analyze (分析) texts to learn more from the texts and more about the texts. One way we can do this is by finding out the theme of the texts.
The theme of a text is the “big idea” that runs through the text, connecting the characters and events. It is what the writer wants to tell us through the story. Themes can be ideas like family, friendship, love and so on. But it may not be able to be included in just one word, it might be an idea such as “Friendship is important.” Usually the theme of a text isn’t told directly, make sure you know what the writer is saying. How can we find out the theme of a text The following steps may help you.
Read through the whole text. Usually characters change as the story goes on, so the theme you get at the beginning might not be true at the end! For this reason, you need to read through the whole text first. There may also be more than one theme in a story.
Find out the clue. After reading the whole text, try to answer the following questions. What important events happened during the story What was the problem How did the problem get solved How did the character(s) change What did the character(s) learn The answers may help you to get the clues.
Get the big idea. Read again for the writer’s purpose of the text and find out the answers to the following questions. Was most of the plot (情节) around friendship Did the characters solve problems with their families Did the main character learn the importance of friendship If one of the answers is “yes”, you may get the big idea.
Check the big idea out. If you’ve found a “big idea”, go through the text to find the evidence that supports this idea in the text. You needn’t repeat every detail of the story — a few key examples will be fine.
Have you got the way to find out the theme of a text Get your favorite book quickly and see if you can find the theme out!

Do you feel strange when your dog begins barking (吠叫) at an empty corner of a room, at a door, or at a place where nothing seems to take place at all Is the dog communicating with something that humans can’t see Or does it simply want to drive its owner crazy
According to experts, the most common explanation for sudden barking is that it’s not really sudden at all. Instead, it’s likely that humans are simply unable to sense some of the things, but dogs can.
Dogs have excellent hearing. So they can discover sounds that are higher in pitch (音高) . A study shows a dog could be reacting (反应) to a noise that a person nearby wouldn’t be able to hear-possibly an alarm from far away.
Dogs are also able to see better in the dark than humans. This is because they have the ability to get more light into the eyes. If a dog is barking at an empty yard at night, it’s possible that something has caught its attention, like a leaf, a wild animal or a thief.
That’s not to say that dogs only bark when they sense something. Some dogs might bark because they feel bored and a walk is probably needed. They might also be trying to get their owners’ attention.
Experts say that owners should avoid punishing their dogs for barking, since they’re simply trying to remain watchful. Instead, owners can try to comfort their dogs to show that they know their worry. But if a dog barks all the time, its owner might consider a trip to the doctor.

Music education
Music education is important
How important is music When they are asked this question, students and parents usually answer that music is nice, but not very important. It is often considered only as entertainment, but not the first choice for education. This opinion is shortsighted. In fact, music education is necessary and important for all students.
Music tells us who we are
Music tells us who we are. Music reflects the creators’ thinking and values, as well as the social environment it came from. For example, just as Mozart music represents a lifestyle, and rock music represents a lifestyle, too. The jazz that George Gershwin and other musicians introduced into their music is obviously American because it came from American musical traditions.
Music provides a kind of ability
Music provides a kind of ability to know the world in a different way. Science explains how the sun rises and sets. Music explores the emotive (情感的) meanings. We need every possible way to discover and respond (回应) to our world because no one way can get it all.
Music is a form of thought
Music is a form of thought, as powerful as science. It is a way we human beings “talk” to each other. Through the language we express our feelings, our discoveries, our ideas, our imagination and our hopes so that they can be shared with others. When we do not let our children receive good music education, we take away from them the meanings that music expresses. Science does not tell us what it means to be human. Music does.
So music education is much more necessary than people generally realize.
Complete the chart according to the passage with only one word for each blank.

There are many kinds of clouds. They are an important part of the earth’s weather.
A cloud is made of water drops or ice crystals (冰晶) floating in the sky. The sky can be full of water. But most of the time you can’t see the water. The drops of water are too small to see. They have turned into a gas called water vapor. As the water vapor goes higher in the sky, the air gets cooler. The cooler air causes the water droplets (小水滴) to start to stick to things like bits of dust, ice or sea salt.
Clouds get their names in two ways. One way is by where they are found in the sky. Some clouds are high up in the sky. Low clouds are close to the earth’s surface. In fact, low clouds can even touch the ground. These clouds are called fog. Middle clouds are found between low and high clouds. Another way clouds are named is by their shape. Cirrus clouds are high clouds. They look like feathers. Cumulus clouds are middle clouds. These clouds look like giant cotton balls in the sky. Stratus clouds are low clouds. They cover the sky like bed sheets.
At night, clouds reflect heat and keep the ground warmer. During the day, clouds make shade that can keep us cooler. Studying clouds helps scientists better understand the earth’s weather.
Scientists also study clouds on other planets. Mars has clouds that are like the clouds, on Earth. But other planets have clouds that aren’t made of water. For example, Jupiter has clouds made of a gas called ammonia.

I enjoy reading, which helps me improve my English a lot. How to enjoy reading like me Here are some suggestions for you.
Firstly, it’s important to choose a book which is the right level for you. If you are just starting out with English, don’t try to read a 600-page classic novel!
Secondly, although having a dictionary at hand to look up words is useful, you should try not to translate word by word, or you will soon get bored. Look up the words that you think are difficult to understand the text and learn them in a sentence. This will make it more likely that you will remember them in the future.
Finally, interest is important but perseverance (毅力) is the key. Although at first it may seem that reading has become a chore, you will soon get into the story and you will end up not being able to put the book down! The feeling of finishing a book in a different language is very satisfying. If you finish one, don’t stop there!

It’s reported that Kristen Tapping who graduated from London South Bank University has invented a bike wheel that can help deal with air pollution. It’s called ROLLOE.
The wheel uses fins to draw-in air as it turns. It then uses filters (过滤器) to take in polluted air and give off clean air back into the environment. The wheel can filter more air when it goes faster.
Tapping said she was encouraged to create the wheel when she was biking around London. “On streets, you always notice the pollution: the heat, the gases and the smell,” she said. She predicted (预测) that if 10 percent of cyclists in London had a ROLLOE on their bikes, they could filter about 266,865 m of air a day, although this had to be tested.
A report showed that because of air pollution, London’s health costs were the highest out of the 432 European cities. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also said that outdoor air pollution caused about 4.2 million deaths around the world each year.
