三、阅读理解
When I was a child, my mother had one weapon(武器) to overcome my
strange problem—being unable to read. She always gave me an order: I was
ordered to walk to the public library to borrow books to read.
One day when I was 12, I found my way into the “Children’s Room” in the
library. I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf. The cover of a
book caught my eyes. It presented a picture of a beagle(小猎犬). I had recently
had a beagle, the first and only pet I ever had as a child. He was my secret
sharer, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the
space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle.
There on the cover was a beagle which looked similar to my dog. I ran my
fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title,
Amos, the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without
opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.
Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very
slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of
the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and
who finally found his way back home. It seemed that the dog was my dog, and I
was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final
scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind,
running together.
My mother’s call returned me to the real world. I suddenly realised
something: I had read a book, and I had loved reading that book. Everyone
knew I could not read. But I had read it. I would never forget my “magical”
experience that summer when I was 12.
After that, my mother saw a slow but great improvement in my classroom
performance during the next year. Books could be incredibly wonderful and I was
going to read them. And years later: she took pride in her son who had read
thousands of books, wrote lots of famous books, articles, poetry and fiction,
and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in literature(文学).

A. He was forced by his mother to read it.
B. The story in the book seemed to be his own.

( A )3. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

三、阅读理解
When I was in the sixth grade, my teacher asked our class the question,
“What does ‘doing the right thing’ mean to you?” She asked us to think about it
over the weekend, and to talk to anyone else we thought might have a good
answer. By Monday, we were to hand in an article on it, and get prepared to live
up to our answers.
The whole weekend, I tried to come up with something that would impress
my teacher and be easy to do. I talked to my parents, called my grandmother,
and asked my next door neighbour. Everyone had good answers, but I didn’t feel
like I could do them.
On Sunday afternoon my parents took me to my Aunt Cindy’s house. After
dinner, my parents told me to play with my four year old cousin Andrea while
they were away. I turned on the television and found a Disney movie for Andrea,
and then I sat down and started to write my article. I still knew what I was going to
write about. Soon I felt a pair of eyes on me. It was Andrea.
“What are you doing, Daisy?” she asked.
“I have to write an article about what doing the right thing means to me,” I
answered. Andrea laughed. “That’s easy,” she said.
“Okay, tell me the answer,” I said.
“Doing the right thing means: Being nice to your family and friends. Doing
what your mum says. Never lie. Take a bath when you’re dirty. Don’t waste water
and electricity.”
I looked at Andrea amazingly. Not only had she answered a very difficult
question for me, but I could easily follow all of her rules. And all I had to do was
to be nice. So when I wrote my article, I included the story about Andrea.
Two weeks later, my teacher returned everyone’s articles. I received an A+
along with a little note my teacher had written: “Always do the right thing and
give Andrea an A+, too!”
( C )1. The underlined part “live up to our answers” means
“ ”.
A. finish writing our articles over the weekend
B. come up with good ideas before writing
C. do the things that we mention in our articles
D. talk to anyone who might help give an answer
C
( A )2. What is the correct order of the writer’s activities?
①She talked to several people about the question.
②She tried to think of something special and easy to do.
③She introduced how Andrea helped her in her article.
A
④She asked Andrea to tell her the answer to the question.
A. ②①④③ B. ①②③④
C. ②③①④ D. ④①③②
( D )3. Why did the teacher ask the students to write the article?
A. To tell them how to admire other people.
B. To help them think about things carefully.
C. To advise them to ask for help from others.
D. To educate them always to do the right thing.
( B )4. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The writer won’t do what her parents say.
B. The writer will thank and praise her cousin.
C. Maybe the writer will be strict with her friends.
D. The writer will probably waste paper and water.

三、任务型阅读
阅读下面材料,从方框中所给的A—E五个选项中选择正确的选项(其中
一项是多余选项),将其序号填入1—4题,并回答第5题。
A. Learn to make proper plans.
B. You’ll probably just put them off again.
C. Just simply focus on one thing at a time.
D. It might seem like an idea to waste more time.
E. Try to find another feeling to describe your situation.
Four Ways to Feel Less Busy
“Busy” is a word that everyone can relate to, and you probably feel busy
during your week. The good news is that although our lifestyles are so busy, these
simple ways can help you feel a little less busy.
◆Stop saying you’re busy.
Words have amazing power over the way you feel. If you keep telling yourself
how busy you are, you will start feeling even busier. Try to stop saying your
feeling or situation as “being busy”. 1 When you don’t use the word,
you will realise you aren’t as busy as you may think.
E
◆Focus on(专注于) one thing at a time.
Although you might be proud of yourself on doing many tasks at a time, the
truth is you’ll get something done faster by focusing on one thing at a time. Dr
Morgenstern talked about the bad influence on your brain if you keep it busy all the
time. Dr Morgenstern said, “In fact, your brain cannot change between tasks
quickly, so you lose time.” 2 In the end, you are going to save a lot
more time.
C
◆Do something good for others.
3 But spending time every day doing something good for others can
actually help you feel less busy. Researchers found that people’s “time affluence
(富裕)” went up when they spent time doing warm acts to help others,
because they felt they had more meaningful time than people who spent the same
time on themselves.
D
◆ 4
Most people end up wasting time simply by doing the wrong things. It is easy
to put off big tasks and do the simplest thing first when you are busy. It’s a good
idea to make plans ahead, list things you need to do, even the smallest of
chores, and do them first.
5. How do you make yourself less busy? (回答不多于10个单词)

A
I never put off things./I usually set small goals. (答案不唯一,合理即可)
