三、阅读理解
“WHAT CAN I HELP YOU WITH?” says a voice from an iPhone. It’s
Siri, and she’s ready to follow your voice orders to search the Internet, text
someone, or play a song.
Siri is an example of artificial intelligence(AI,人工智能), or a
computer programme that can think. The way Siri thinks is very different from how
a person thinks. She doesn’t have a brain. Instead, she depends on code(编码)
in a computer programme to understand speech and answer questions. And some
questions are still too difficult for her to answer. But AI programmes like Siri are
getting smarter each year. In 2011, an AI named Watson beat two human
champions on the show Jeopardy! Computer programmes can also drive cars,
do science experiments, and produce their own artwork.
Someday, artificial intelligence can probably surpass human intelligence.
Once this happens, computers will think, plan, and act in a way that human
beings can’t understand. In the book Superintelligence, Nick Bostrom thinks if a
superintelligence wanted to control the world, it would easily do so. It could even
make all humans die out. Whatever it did, we would lose our control over the
world. He’s not the only one worrying. In 2015, a group of great scientists wrote
an open letter to remind(提醒) people to do the AI study more carefully. AI can
surely make our society better, but it must do what humans want them to do.
However, if people do create a super AI, how will we be able to control
it? What will happen to us if a super smart AI starts making decisions on its
own?

三、阅读理解
Forget your password or your ID? Well, you will never forget your face.
Using your face as your ID is quick and convenient. You could take the subway or
board a flight with just your face alone. This is how facial recognition(人脸识
别) works. It has also been used to catch criminals.
In China, facial recognition systems have been used in many areas. In
Zhengzhou, people can now get on the subway by using facial recognition
technology. They just need to link their online payment systems to the subway’s
smartphone app. Students at Peking University can pass through the school gate by
scanning their faces.
Many people are worried about the collection and use of the facial information
by governments and companies. However, nowadays there are no laws for
them, according to Zhao Zhanling, a researcher at the China University of
Political Science and Law. Why is it necessary to collect data(数据) about your
face and what will the data be used for? These are some common questions about
the facial recognition.
“I feel uncomfortable because I don’t know how the company is using my
facial details or whether they will be leaked(泄露),” Feng Yi, a tourism
company employee, said regarding Zhengzhou’s subway smartphone app. When
someone steals your personal information, you can change your bank card and
password, but can you change your face when your facial information is stolen?
Leaks catch lots of our attention because there is a long history of companies failing
to protect the user data.
As facial recognition is used more and more in our daily life—from college
libraries and subways to street corners and smart phones—we must ask ourselves
whether or not this new technology is worth the risk.
( C )1. Which of the following about the use of facial recognition is NOT
mentioned in the passage?
A. Paying for the subway tickets.
B. Helping the police solve cases.
C. Getting into the lift of the building.
D. Allowing students to enter the school.
C
( D )2. The underlined word “them” in paragraph 3 refers to “ ”.
A. the roles of the facial recognition
B. the rules about the facial recognition
C. the problems about the facial information
D. the use and collection of the facial information
D
( D )3. What does the writer really mean by saying the underlined sentence
in paragraph 4?
A. It is impossible for companies to leak user data in the future.
B. It has been a long time since companies failed to protect user data.
C. The users believe that the companies can protect user data from leaks.
D. The users had better be careful with the facial recognition because of leaks.
D
( A )4. The writer used Feng Yi’s opinion to explain .
A. the risks of using facial recognition technology
B. the advantages of using facial recognition technology
C. the importance of protecting people’s private information

Oil paper umbrellas used to be seen everywhere. However, as steel ribbed

To bring the art to life, some umbrella making masters(大师) in Yuhang

Recently, students in some schools begin to use electronic schoolbags. Is it
good or bad? Here are my group members’ ideas about it.
Lily thinks an electronic schoolbag is light and easy to carry. She says we
can get information more easily in this way and it also makes us more interested in
lessons. But Peter thinks if he uses it all day, it will be bad for his eyes. And he
doesn’t think it can replace textbooks. As for Tina, she thinks although it is
expensive, it can protect the environment because people don’t need to cut down
trees to make paper books.
(125 words)
In my opinion, using electronic schoolbags makes it easier for teachers to
find each student’s problems and help him or her.
