Felicia Jackson was certified in CPR, but that didn’t stop her from drawing a blank in the face of a real-life crisis. When her son stopped breathing in the back sea t of her car, she froze in panic. Thankfully, her husband remained calm and was able to save their child. However, Felicia was shaken to find that, with all her years of medical experience, she wasn’t able to respond to her son’s emergency under pressure.
This unpleasant situation inspired Felicia to come up with a simple tool to make performing CPR easier, especially in high-risk situation. She created the CPR Wrap, a pocket-sized packaging device that can be laid over the body of the victim to show where the rescuer should put their hands and mouth. Not only does the product provide helpful instructions, but it also includes a face shield(挡板) and a one-way breathing barrier. This cuts down on the transfer of germs while performing mouth-to-mouth.
“Even people experienced in CPR can forget their training in stressful situations,” reads the description on the product’s website. “CPR Wrap makes it possible for those individuals to effectively perform CPR at a moment’s notice.”
Although that CPR Wrap was launched in 2017, one video on the TikTok account has recently gone viral. In the video, Felicia shows viewers the simple process of using her product to perform CPR. She adds that it’s “so easy a child could do it.” The brand now boasts over 100,000 followers and 2million likes.

The Mona Lisa is the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting of a woman with a mysterious smile. This week, the painting gave up a secret.
Scientists using X-rays to examine the chemical structure of a small part of the painting discovered a technique Leonardo used in the work. An oil paint used for it was a special, new chemical mixture, which suggests that the Italian artist was in an experimental mood when he worked on the painting in the 16th century.
“He loved to experiment, and each of his paintings is completely different technically,” said Victor Gonzalez, a chemist who has studied the chemical element(成分) of several works by Leonardo and other artists. The researchers found a rare lead compound(铅化合物)—plumbonacrite, in Leonardo’s first layer of paint. The discovery proved that da Vinci most likely used lead oxide to thicken and help dry his paint. The paint in the study is about the thickness of a human hair, lying in the top right area of the painting.
The scientists looked into its atomic structure using X-rays, moving particles at the speed of light, permitting researchers to look deeper into the paint structure. “Plumbonacrite is really a fingerprint of his recipe, as it’s the first time we can chemically confirm it,” Gonzalez said.
Dutch artist Rembrandt may have used a similar mixture when he was painting in the 17th century. Gonzalez and other researchers have found plumbonacrite in his work, too. Leonardo is thought to have put lead oxide powder, which has an orange color, in the oil to make it thicker and dry faster. “What you will get is an oil that has a very nice golden color,” Gonzalez said. “It flows more like honey.”
But the Mona Lisa—said by the Louvre to be a portrait(肖像) of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine silk businessman—and additional works by Leonardo still have other secrets to tell. “What we are saying is just a little brick in the knowledge,” Gonzalez said.
28. What’s the new discovery about the Mona Lisa
A. A new explanation of the secret smile.
B. A new chemical element used in the painting.
C. The secret of the woman in the painting.
D. The structure of the paint da Vinci used.
29. Which best explains the underlined word “fingerprint” in paragraph 4
A. Open secret. B. Widespread use.
C. Hidden element. D. Long-term dream.
30. How does Gonzalez view the use of lead oxide powder in paintings
A. It helps to make many things into paints.
B. It helps to make paints easy to deal with.
C. It helps to keep the paintings last long.
D. It helps to make paintings rich in color.
31. What can we learn about the Mona Lisa from the last paragraph
A. It has more secrets to tell the world.
B. It’s the portrait of a silk businessman.
C. It’s well kept in bricks in the Louvre.
D. It has a mixture of different art styles.

Scientists are now digging into precisely why exercise holds so many benefits for our mental health and memory. The answer, studies say, lies in our brain chemistry.
Each time you work up a sweat, your body releases feel-good happy hormones(荷尔蒙), including endorphins, dopamine and endocannabinoids, the latter being responsible for the so-called runner’s high. Now researchers are also pointing to myokines(肌肉因子)as an important contributor to the mental health benefits of exercise. When our muscles contract, myokines are released into the bloodstream, helping your muscles and organs communicate. They think this communication increases resilience to stress, reduces symptoms of mental suffering and anxiety and has a direct effect on depression.
A 2021 scientific report published in Neuropharmacology showed evidence that myokines boost brain function, like improving memory and mood. “Myokines reduce systemic inflammation(炎症), which is especially beneficial for people with drug-resistant depression whose low mood is linked to high inflammation,” explains Dr Jennifer Heisz, an expert in brain health and associate professor in the department of kinesiology at McMaster University in Canada.
A recent study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine showed that treatment for depression can be much more effective when physical activity is added to the usual care. Participants found benefits after 12 weeks of exercising for 30 to 60 minutes a day. “While exercise is not a replacement for professional mental health treatment, physical activity can complement and enhance the effects of the treatment,” says lead researcher Ben Singh, a research fellow at the University of South Australia.
“It is amazing to consider how moving our bodies can heal our minds,” says Heisz. Whether you’re cycling, walking around your neighbourhood or doing yoga, getting sweaty is good for your body and mind. To get the biggest overall health boost, the key is to zero in on sports and activities you enjoy, so you’ll keep going back to them.
32. How do myokines boost our mental health
A. By bonding muscles with organs.
B. By slowing down our bloodstream.
C. By contracting muscles through the body.
D. By releasing happy hormones in our brain.
33. What is Ben Singh’s attitude towards physical activity in treatment for depression
A. Doubtful. B. Negative. C. Uncertain D. Approving.
34. What does the underlined phrase “zero in on” in the last paragraph mean
A. Adapt to. B. Give up. C. Focus on. D. Put off.
35. How does the author develop the text
A. By making comparisons. B. By presenting research findings.
C. By offering suggestions. D. By conducting some experiments.

Did you know many adults sit for more than nine hours a day Whether it’s working at a desk, sitting in a car, 56 lying on the sofa watching TV, we have 57 much more sedentary(惯于久坐不动的) lifestyle than our parents and grandparents did. The question that this raises is: what is it doing to our bodies
The news isn’t good. If you live a sedentary lifestyle, you have a 58 (high) chance of being overweight, having diabetes or heart disease, and experiencing depression and anxiety. A study carried out in the 1950s 59 (compare) bus drivers with the conductors, 60 walked around the bus selling tickets. It showed that drivers were twice as likely 61 (have) heart attacks than the more active conductors. In fact, prolonged 62 (sit) has been connected with a number of different conditions. If you sit all day, you burn far fewer calories than someone with a more active job.
One possible answer to this problem is for desk workers 63 (use) standing desks, to spend at least part of a day on their feet. Other experts point out that standing all day can also have negative 64 (impact), such as leg or back pain, recommending that if people do want to use standing desks, they should 65 (gradual) increase the amount of standing time. A boy called Jamy always arrived home hungry every day and his parents couldn’t figure out why, despite making meals for him. When Jamy wouldn’t share what was going on, his parents decided to visit the school principai(校长), hoping the principal could offer some insight.
After talking with Jamy’s classmates, the principal and his parents heard a story they weren’t expecting. Although Jamy never talked about it, his classmates told them that he always came to school without food. The principal and his parents were shocked. No wonder Jamy was always so hungry after school! Was there something happening on the way to school that Jamy didn’t tell them
To make the situation clear, the principal asked Jamy’s teacher, Callum to talk to Jamy in private. During the conversation with the teacher, Jamy refused to say any further details about the situation, leaving everyone frustrated and helpless. And despite multiple questioning, Jamy still refused to say any knowledge of the situation. This left the principal with no evidence to take any action regarding the missing lunch of Jamy.
Jamy’s parents were becoming increasingly concerned as their child continued to come home from school without saying a word. Despite their meeting in the school, they thought that they hadn’t gotten any closer to uncovering the truth about why Jamy was always so hungry. The lack of communication from their child only added to their frustration and helplessness. They knew they needed to take action, but they had no idea where to start.
Determined to get to the bottom of the problem, Jamy’s father decided to take action again. The next day, Jamy’s father went to school and requested to speak with Jamy’s teacher Callum.
When Jamy’s father reached the school, Callum spoke with him and patiently answered all of his questions. However, despite a deep conversation between them, no conclusion could be reached, which still puzzled Jamy’s parents.
