  一、语言知识:

Narrator: Scientists have made a great difference to the world in many fields.Yuan Longping was born in 1930 and died in 2021. He was a Chinese agricultural scientist and educator, known as the “Father of Hybrid Rice”. He was born in 1930. He graduated from Southwest Agricultural College in 1953 and began his teaching career at an agricultural school.

In the 1960s,Yuan devoted himself to the research and development of a better rice breed.In the 1970s, Yuan succeeded in developing the first hybrid rice varieties.
This hybrid rice species could produce about 20% more rice per unit than common rice species. In 1979, the technique for hybrid rice was introduced into the United States.

Hybrid rice has been grown in dozens of countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America. Yuan’s efforts to end the hunger problem have earned him many awards such as the Wolf Prize in Agriculture and the World Food Prize, both in 2004. In 2019, he was awarded the Medal of the People’s Republic of China, one of China’s highest honours.

Stephen Hawking was born in 1942 and died in 2018. He was an English physicist and author who worked at the University of Cambridge.
