I overslept this morning because I stayed up late last night. I washed my face and brushed my teeth as soon as possible. I had no time to have breakfast. Then I left home and ran towards the bus stop. Unluckily, when I got to the bus stop, the bus had left. As a result, I arrived late for school. I was so sleepy that I couldn’t pay attention to what the teacher said in maths class. My maths teacher asked me a question but I couldn’t answer it. It made me feel embarrassed.
What an unlucky day I had today!

1.When I got to school, I realized I had left my backpack at home.
Section A(第一、二课时)
Jack forgot his English dictionary this morning.
She left her Chinese book at home this morning.
2.I overslept.
study →overstudy(用功过度)
work →overwork(过度劳累)
dose(剂量) →overdose(药物过量)
weight →overweight(超重)
crowded →overcrowded(过度拥挤的,挤满的)
3.By the time I got up, my brother had already gotten in the shower.
(1)by the time的意思是“在……
By the time I got to the cinema, the film had been on for ten minutes.
Frank said that he had not seen the film before.
By the end of last month, I had read 20 novels in English.
When I got to the railway station, the train had left.
4.We stared in disbelief at the black smoke rising above the burning building.
like(喜欢) →dislike(不喜欢)
order(秩序) →disorder(无秩序)
honest(诚实的) →dishonest(不诚实的)
appear(出现)→disappear(消失)
advantage(优点) →disadvantage(缺点;不利条件;损失)
I raise my hands above my head.
The top of the tree is above the tops of the other trees.
【辨析】方位介词over,on,under,below的用法区别。
There is a bridge over the river.
There is a boat on the river.
My football is under the desk.
Please sign your name below the line.
5.The other planes were full so I had to wait till the next day.
The young man danced till midnight.
Jim didn’t arrive till ten o’clock.
Betty didn’t go to bed till her father came back.
We didn’t start our work till the rain stopped.
