（1）try to do sth.意为“努力做某事”；try doing sth. 意为“试着做某事”。例如：

（1）Why not do sth. = Why don’t you do sth.
这是一种提建议的表达方式，意为“为什么不……？”，not后面接动词原形。
（2） write down意为“写下，记下”。 这是一种“动词+副词”搭配的短语，在这种短语中，宾语如果是代词需放两词中间；如果是名词可放两词中间，也可放两词之后。例如：
Please write down your name. = Please write your name down. 请写下你的名字。

forget to do sth. 意为“忘记要去做某事”，动作尚未发生。
forget doing sth. 意为“忘记做过某事”，动作已经发生。例如：
I forgot to close the windows when I left home. 我离开家时忘记关窗户了。（我没有关窗户）
I forgot closing the windows so I came back. 我忘记我已经关好窗户了，所以我返回来了。（我以为没有关窗户，但实际我已经关了）
5.What else 还有别的什么吗？
else作副词，意为“另外，其他”，可用于不定代词、疑问词之后。例如：
Who else do you know 你还知道别的什么人？

【辨析】other表示“别的，其他的”，用于被修饰的名词前。例如：
There are some big trees on one side of the road and some flowers on the other side. 马路的一边种有一些大树，另一边种有一些花。
6.You don’t need to understand every word. 你不需要理解每个单词。
need to do sth.意为“需要做某事”,此处need是实义动词，其后接动词不定式。例如：
You don’t need to come here. 你不需要来这里。

Unit 2
1.Many students ask for advice about how to improve their English. 许多学生征求关于如何提高他们的英语水平的建议。
（1）ask for意为“请求”，有时也用作ask sb. for，意为“请求某人给予……”。例如：
I decided to go to the next house and ask for food.我决定去隔壁那家蹭点吃的。
If you have problems, you can ask your teachers for help.如果你遇到了困难，可以向你的老师寻求帮助。
（2）how to improve意为“如何提高”，此处是“疑问词 + 动词不定式”结构作宾语的用法。类似用法的还有：where to go，what to do，when to go等。例如：
I don’t know what to do.我不知道该做什么。
2.Here are three basic questions.下面是三个基本问题。
“Here be（is/ are）”在这里可以理解为 “下面是……/这儿有……”，它是个倒装句，主语是be后面的名词，be与后面的主语保持人称和数的一致。例如：
Here is some advice for you.下面是给你的一些建议。
3.Watch and listen several times, and guess the meaning of the new words.看几遍，听几遍，并猜测生词的意思。
time在此处用作可数名词，意为“次，回”，复数形式是times。在英语中，表示“一次”用once; 表示“两次”用twice;表示“三次或三次以上”用“基数词+times”。对次数提问用“How many times… ”。例如：
He knocked at the door three times, but nobody answered. 他敲了三次门，但没有人应答。
4.I am shy and I am afraid to speak to her. 我有些害羞，害怕和她讲话。
be afraid to do sth. = be afraid of doing sth.，意为“害怕做某事”。例如：
I’m afraid to go out at night. 我害怕在晚上外出。
Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. 不要害怕犯错。
5.I also advise you to talk about the films or songs with your friends. 我还建议你跟你的朋友谈论电影或歌曲。
I suggest you write four or five words a day on pieces of paper and place them in your room. 我建议你每天在纸上写四五个单词，并把它们放在你的房间里。
【辨析】（1）advise与suggest
①相同点：均为及物动词，都可表示“建议做某事”，advise与suggest后面都可接名词、动名词或that从句（从句的谓语形式为“should+动词原形”，should可以省略）。例如：
他建议（我们）再等一会儿。
He advised/ suggested waiting a bit longer.
He advised/ suggested that we （should） wait a bit longer.
②不同点：advise后可以直接跟人称代词作宾语，如“advise sb. to do sth.”; 而suggest后一般用“suggest（to sb.） that…”的形式。例如：
他建议我们改天再来。
［正］ He advised us to come another day.
［误］ He suggested us to come another day.
［误］ He suggested us that we come another day.
（2）advice与 suggestion
①advice为不可数名词，意为“建议，意见”。表示“一条建议”常用a/one piece of advice, 表示“一些建议”常用some advice。例如：
Please give me some advice about how to study English.请给我一些关于如何学习英语的建议。
②suggestion为可数名词，意为“建议，意见”。表示“一条建议”用a suggestion，表示“一些建议”则用some suggestions。例如：
It’s just a suggestion. 这只是个建议。

2.提建议的句型结构及用法
（1）Shall we…
在表示建议或征求对方的意见时，可以用shall开头的一般疑问句。其肯定回答一般可用“All right.”/ “OK.”/ “Good idea.”等。
（2）Let’s…
表示“让我们（包括双方在内）做某事”。使用该句型提建议时要用以“Let’s…”开头的祈使句。而“Let us…”在表示“让我们做某事”时，不包括对方在内。例如：
Let’s have a look, shall we 我们一起去看一看吧？
Let us go, will you 让我们走吧，好吗？
（3）Why not…
“Why not… ”是省略了主语的省略句式，意思是“为什么不……？”，后接不带to的不定式（即动词原形）; 其完整句为“Why don’t you/they/we… ”。例如：
Why don’t you try again =Why not try again 为什么不再试一次？
（4）What about… / How about…
意为“……怎么样？”，后可接名词、代词和动名词。例如：
What about having a cup of tea 来杯茶怎么样？
I’m going to the park. How about you 我打算去公园，你呢？
（5）It is a good idea to…
意思是“做……是个好主意”。例如：
It’s a good idea to read new words aloud. 大声读生词是个好主意。
