Horses replace machines in Welsh forest
Fforest Fawr is an old woodland area with broadleaf trees and important archaeological features, but there are diseased larch trees that need to be removed. They’ve been individually felled and then dragged out of the forest by a team of four horses.
Horse logging was used for thousands of years before machinery took over. Now, it’s making a comeback because it has much less impact on the environment in areas like Fforest Fawr and can even help to fertilise the land.
Natural Resources Wales, who manage Fforest Fawr, say that horses will be used at other locations in the future.

Here we introduce three Chinese films that have won praise in 2023.

Describing the film as “a story of finding a way out”, Wang said it not only helped him get out of a difficult situation but also holds great meaning for his own life.

Cultural relics (文物) are not only a nation’s cultural treasures but also a record of a country’s historical changes. Each of us has a responsibility to protect and develop our own culture and history. Two Chinese vloggers (视频博主) have taken their action—they created an online show Escape From the British Museum last August.
The show is only 16 minutes and 44 seconds, but successfully drew people’s attention to Chinese cultural treasures that have been lost overseas. It follows the journey home of a Chinese jade teapot (玉壶) played by Summer Sister, that has come to life and become a lovely Chinese girl in Hanfu. She runs away from the British Museum in a hurry and then returns to China with the help of a Chinese reporter named Zhang Yong’an, who was played by Pancake Fruit.
Many people have been touched by the words in it, such as “My family, I have been lost for a long time,” and “As long as I’m with my family, I’m safe.” Also, there are many meaningful details which are worth thinking deeply, such as the face of the “jade teapot” is dirty, and she is surprised by how big the reporter’s house is, compared to her own place—a crowded shelf without a cover. So, does the British Museum take good care of our cultural treasures Everybody is sure of the answer.
In December, 2023, it was reported that more than 2, 000 cultural treasures from the British Museum were “missing, stolen or broken” This has made a hot discussion in China and other countries, including Greece and Egypt. We are all calling for the return of our cultural treasures. Would you like to do something for our country, just like the two vloggers

A.In a novel. B.In a movie poster. C.In a newspaper. D.In a story book.
5.Who helps the jade teapot in the show return to China
A.A Chinese girl in Hanfu. B.Summer Sister.

6.It’s clear that the jade teapot in the show ________.

B.misses the British Museum very much
C.lives in a big house without a cover

①According to UNESCO, there are 740 million people unable to read or write in this world. And 250 million children of primary school age have no basic reading and writing skills. However, reading makes everything possible in life: education, work and escaping poverty (贫困). Considering that, the Global School Community aims to bring digital books to all the children of the world and their families.
②Digital technology makes a real difference. It can reach across the world and is fairly inexpensive. The Global School Community makes e-books available to children all around the world, either through mobile phones, pads or computers, saving the cost of making books and transport. Technology also helps improve our communication skills. Through the use of technology, schooling (远程教学) is one example of the success of communication through the Internet.
③The first books a child reads can have a great influence on that child. The greater the influence, the more likely the child is to continue reading and learning throughout his life. E-books not only provide knowledge and information, but help people grow healthily in mind. They can provide hours of entertainment and can connect schools all over the world. Studies have shown that children make much progress after only five months of reading e-books. Bido Hafrag, a child from Egypt, said, “Reading e-books not only helps me learn to read and write, but gives me much confidence. It also helps me have a better understanding of the world.”
④The Global School Community has a huge e-book library for every school to enter. It aims to bring digital books to all children and their families, and helps schools, colleges and universities to connect with each other. Please join our family of schools, write an e-book or share resources (资源) at globalschoolcommunity.com.
