Poland is known for food that is rich in meat. But as in many countries across the world, recent years have witnessed a rise in plant-based living. If you’re a vegetarian traveller in Gdansk looking for some meat-free options, make sure to pay these restaurants a visit!
Pierogarnia Mandu
A trip to Gdansk would be incomplete without pierogi, dumplings containing sweet fillings. They’re the ultimate Polish comfort food! This restaurant specializes in pierogi. You’ll also get to watch the pierogi being made in full view of the restaurant. It’s worth booking in advance as it’s very popular.
Avocado Vegan Bistro
It is a small, comfortable cafe with a menu that includes classics like dumplings as well as daily specials. It can get pretty busy, so you may have to choose for takeaway rather than eating in, but the food is fresh and tasty. There is also a great selection of vegan (严格素食主义者) cakes and desserts to choose from, so it’s worth a visit even if you’ve already eaten.
Zakwasownia
Also in Wrzeszcz is Zakwasownia, a vegan organic restaurant. The menu is not huge, but you can expect quality rather than quantity with dishes. There is a lot of attention to detail in the way that dishes are plated, creating a dining experience that feels a little fancy — perfect for a date night or a special occasion. There is also a children’s menu, so it’s family friendly, too.
Manna 68
Also in the Old Town is Manna 68, an only vegan restaurant. The menu is varied. Its central location makes it a perfect pit stop(短暂休息) after a day of exploring the streets of the Old Town. That also means it’s a little pricier, but for quality food, friendly service and a comfortable atmosphere, it’s worth it.
1. What can travelers experience in Pierogarnia Mandu
A. Choose for takeaway. B. Buy free comfort food.
C. Make dumplings with families. D. Enjoy the process of making dumplings.
2. Which restaurant suits a young couple with a kid
A. Manna 68. B. Zakwasownia.

I've just done my first jump since the accident that nearly killed me just a year ago. As I was lying in hospital, thinking that I would never skydive again, I wasn't feeling glad to be alive. Instead, I was wondering how I could possibly live without it.
It all started one evening after another nine-to-five day. I was sitting at home thinking, “There has to be more to life than this,” when an advertisement came on the television, “Try skydiving!”
The next day, I called the nearest skydiving center and booked my first jump. I will never forget my first jump. It was a beautiful, cloudless day and the sun was just going down. As I pushed myself away from the plane at 11,000 feet, my mind went blank.
Words cannot describe the excitement I experienced while I was free-falling That was the most amazing four minutes of my life.
From the first jump, I was hooked. I started spending every free moment I had skydiving. At work, I sat in front of my computer and imagined ways of making more money so that I could jump more often.
The accident happened on my 1,040th jump. Another skydiver hit my parachute(降落伞) at 80 feet. I fell and hit the ground at about 30 mph, face down. I broke my legs, my right arm and my nose. I lost 6 liters of blood, 19 teeth and 25 pounds of fat. I was lucky to be alive.
People who have never experienced skydiving will find it hard to understand that my only reason to get better was that I could do it again. All I can say is that for me, skydiving is life and life is skydiving.

The Chinese paddlefish (白鲟)-one of the world’s largest freshwater fish-has been announced extinct. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Back in January, I was determined to get fit seriously. ____16____ But then just as I was close to giving up again, I discovered a brilliant new way to make exercise better: by turning it into a video-game.
Zwift is essentially a cycling game that you control by riding your real bike, which is equipped with a device called a turbo-trainer. This makes it like an exercise bike. As you ride, the trainer sends signals to your computer or tablet to control the character on screen. ____17____ For example, as you’re cycling up a hill in the game, you can actually feel the different levels of resistance on the bike.
After signing up for a 12/month subscription, you can participate in virtual cycle rides in 3D-recreations of real places, like London or in fantastical fictional locations invented by the game designers. ____18____ As you cycle along The Mall towards Buckingham Palace, other real human cyclists appear alongside you, sharing the journey. Though it is obviously only a game, just seeing the character move is surprisingly motivating.
____19____ Go a little faster and you’ll be rewarded with a little achievement marker. If you ride harder, you might win a race against another real player and unlock a new item in a regular video game, which can never be matched by a traditional exercise bike.
I’m not the only person who has noticed this. ____20____ Today there are many other companies chasing the same audience, and they all offer their own unique twists on the formula.
A. Zwift makes it easy to work out.
B. And importantly, you’re not alone.
C. The rest of the tech industry has, too.
D. I played Zwift, a cycling game for training.
E. And then the game sends instructions back to the trainer.
F. Smartly, the tricks of video-games will keep pushing you.

【18题详解】
下文“As you cycle along The Mall towards Buckingham Palace, other real human cyclists appear alongside you, sharing the journey.(当你沿着林荫大道向白金汉宫骑行时,其他真正的骑自行车的人会出现在你身边,分享你的旅程)”提到了其他骑自行车的人,B选项中not alone是关键词,与下文的other real human cyclists构成因果关系,所以B选项“重要的是,你并不孤单”,符合语境。故选B项。
【19题详解】
下文“Go a little faster and you’ll be rewarded with a little achievement marker. If you ride harder, you might win a race against another real player and unlock a new item in a regular video game, which can never be matched by a traditional exercise bike.(再快一点,你就会得到一个小小的成就标记。如果你骑得更努力,你可能会在与另一个真正的玩家的比赛中获胜,并在普通的电子游戏中解锁一个新物品,这是传统的健身自行车永远无法比拟的)”提到了推动你不断前进的一些技巧,F选项中pushing是关键词,与下文的faster和harder呼应,所以F选项“巧妙地,电子游戏的技巧将继续推动你”能概括下文内容,符合语境。故选F项。
【20题详解】

Rick, a ten-year-old boy, was constantly angry at everything around him. He always fought in school with the other kids. Once he had an outburst in school. Upset by something a classmate said to him, he pushed the boy, and a fight happened. When the teacher stepped in to break it up, Rick went crazy, throwing papers and books around the classroom and rushing out. His teachers couldn’t say anything that would comfort the kid. And the parents of his schoolmates were getting concerned. Rick was earning quite the reputation. After talking with school officials, Rick’s mom tried everything she could to calm Rick down.
She tried different methods until one day she came home with a canvas (画布) and paint. “What’s this ”, Rick asked. Rick’s mom handed over the painting equipment and said, “Whenever you feel angry, paint whatever you’re angry about instead of bursting out.” Rick wasn’t that happy about it but he gave it a try anyway. Over the next few weeks, the young boy created several artworks. They mostly showed disturbing images though. So his mom took all of the paintings and called Rick over so that they could talk about them. “Tell me, Rick. What are these paintings about ”
“Well, the first painting is about how some of the kids show off their new clothes and pencil cases. The next painting is about my teacher who keeps telling me about how I’m doing things wrong. And the last painting is about how one of my schoolmate’s father suggested that I change my attitude. All of them make me so angry.” Rick’s mom, in a calm voice, took Rick by her side and told him: “Don’t you see it, Rick ” “See what ” Rick asked. “You’re so angry at all of these things but not once did you try to understand why you’re getting so angry. What have all these people done to you, really ”

Rick knew it was time to change.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version
Rick was lost in thought. It slowly dawned on him that people he was angry at had done nothing wrong. His classmates who showed their new clothes and pencil cases to others might just want to share their happiness with friends. His teacher did blame him because he was being a problem. And his schoolmate’s father was just trying to help him correct his mistakes. They had no intention to hurt him but he just let his unreasonable anger consume him and hurt them. How ridiculous he had been!
Rick knew it was time to change. From then on, Rick tried his best to control his temper. Every time he felt he was to explode, he would walk away and ask himself why he was angry and whether it was reasonable to be angry. Then he would find his peace and laughed his anger away. Gradually, everyone saw a different Rick. He no longer shouted at others or threw things away. He chatted with classmates after class and complimented their new clothes and pencil cases. He even helped teachers carry books before class sometimes. Rick’s change surprised everyone and they all felt happy for him.

Words cannot describe the excitement I experienced while I was free-falling. That was the most amazing four minutes of my life.

Scientists say the paddlefish, also called the Chinese swordfish, is believed to have a lineage dating back at least 34 million years. With its long nose and mouth, the paddlefish could grow as long as seven meters.
But a research paper recently published in Science of the Total. Environment reported the paddlefish was now extinct. The researchers include scientists from the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Britain’s University of Kent and the University of South Bohemia in the Czech Republic.
The paper says the paddlefish was announced extinct for two reasons. It said that the fish was not able to survive because of widespread overfishing and damage to its native environment in the Yangtze River.
Researchers discovered 332 different species of fish in the Yangtze River in 2017 and 2018. But they did not find a single Chinese paddlefish They guessed the fish disappeared between 2005 and 2010. The extinction of the Chinese paddlefish was “a huge loss” to nature.
Pan Wenjing is a forest and ocean expert with Greenpeace East Asia. “The ecology of the Yangtze River is almost in ruins due to human activity in past decades” Pan said. She stressed that China had taken measures to improve the Yangtze’s environment, including a 10-year ban (禁令) on fishing.
After the extinction was reported in the news, some Chinese media and Internet users took a look back at the large creatures. Many people appeared to have not heard of the Chinese paddlefish before it was announced extinct.
“Every time I see the news of another species going extinct, heart starts to ache,” wrote one Weibo user. “Humans should not live alone on this planet,” the user added.

While the opening ceremony on Sept 23 of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou showcased to the world the host city’s rich cultural heritage, picturesque scenery and technological prowess (造诣), the opening ceremony of the Asian Para Games focused more on the softer side of Hangzhou and its people.
The ceremony featured the osmanthus (桂花), the city flower of Hangzhou, as the key element to convey the “sunny, harmonious, persevering and sharing” spirit of the Para Games.
Following an opening show featuring a first-person narration by a partially sighted young girl who welcomed guests from a long distance while the osmanthus is in full blossom, spectators cheered as Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang declared the opening of the sporting gala.
Twenty-two massive bunches of golden osmanthus, which represent the 22 sports featured in the event, served as the centerpiece of the ceremony.
With the help of technology, the bouquets took on different configurations —sometimes as water, sometimes as arched bridges —before eventually turning into a giant crown hung in the air, welcoming the athletes as they entered the stadium.
Majid Rashed, the president of the Asian Paralympic Committee, expressed appreciation for the Chinese host’s thorough organization. “The huge efforts of the Chinese government and the organizing committee in making these Games a success, is helping us to get closer to achieving our vision of creating an inclusive Asia through sport,” said Rashed, who thanked the organizing committee for its “tireless efforts, which will make these the best ever Asian Para Games, I’m sure”.
