Salmon (三文鱼) hamburgers and salmon sandwiches are on the school lunch menu (菜单) in Sitka, Alaska now. The salmon comes from fishing in the area. This is thanks to Sitka’s Fish to Schools program (项目). It brings fresh fish to the school.
“Fish is part of our life,” Tad Fujioka said. He is a fisherman in Sitka. He gives 50 to 100 pounds of fish each year to the program for free. “Around here, we know how to cook fish.” Fujioka has two daughters. They are Alexandra, 10, and Mari Frances, 6. Both girls go to school in Sitka. So they get to enjoy fresh fish for lunch. “It’s pretty delicious,” Alexandra said.
