When Capt. Greg Galeazzi joined the Army seven years ago, he was well aware of the risks of injuries or even death he would face. In 2011, the risks became Galeazzi’s reality — he got terribly injured in an explosion where he lost his double legs. “I was a shell of a man,” he said. “Who I was, was gone.”
Before his injury, playing the guitar had been a special pastime for Galeazzi. Music had always been important to him. He felt deep sadness because he thought he’d lost his ability to play music.
However, everything changed when Galeazzi joined MusiCorps, a music rehabilitation (康复) program for severely wounded soldiers who are recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. “We match the injured troops with professional musicians,” said Arthur Bloom, who founded the program in 2007. “They help wounded soldiers play music and recover their lives.”
Bloom, a graduate of the Yale School of Music, offers his services to patients at Walter Reed who have an interest in playing an instrument. Program participants practice technique, write and record music. Or they may just get together for a jam session (即兴演奏会).
The journey to recovery for many soldiers is a long one. It can require dozens of operations and many years spent in hospitals. There’s so much downtime at Walter Reed, and that’s what they fill up with music.
Since 2007, Bloom and his group have helped hundreds of wounded soldiers. For Galeazzi, joining MusiCorps has helped restore his confidence and made him more optimistic about his future. “Something survived that horrible injury in Afghanistan,” Galeazzi said. “Arthur and his program changed my outlook on what is possible.”
“I’ve seen guys going through such a hard time with their injuries that they are very withdrawn,” Bloom said. “The music becomes their new way of communicating. It can be just as powerful as the spoken word. By injecting music into this space, we can inject life.”
24.Which of the following is NOT true about Greg Galeazzi
A.He clearly knew the risks he would take of being a soldier.
B.He was at one time in total depression about losing his legs.
C.Joining MusiCorps started up his enthusiasm in playing music again.
D.It was music that played a key role in healing his soul.
25.What does the MusiCorps mainly aim to do according to Arthur
A.To offer the participants professional help on how to produce music.
B.To reduce the pain in the participants’ medical treatment.
C.To organize music performances by the participants.
D.To help the injured soldiers regain confidence in life through music.
26.What is Bloom’s attitude towards music
A.negative B.positive C.indifferent D.neutral
27.What is the best title for the text

Who would have thought a teenager’s mobile phone could help them manage their mental health by supporting a good night’s sleep A new app aimed at 12-to 16-year-olds is showing strong early results, improving both the hours of sleep and reducing depression and anxiety.
Sleep Ninja, a free app created by mental health research organization the Black Dog Institute, has shown significant early results in improving teenagers’ sleep patterns, so critical not just for school readiness but for overall good mental health, co-creator Aliza Werner-Seidler said.
“Adolescents struggle to get the recommended eight to 10 hours of sleep each night,” Dr Werner-Seidler, a clinical psychologist, said. “As a result, approximately 40 per cent of all young people will experience a significant sleep problem by early high school which heightens their risk of mental ill-health, which is a risk factor for a range of disorders including depression and anxiety.”
Those using the app nominate a time to be up in the morning to make it to school or other activities. From there, it work backwards, determining when they should be in bed. The app gives an alert to start a pre-bed routine, which launches at least an hour before bed time. Part of that routine is to put the phone and other devices away, and engage in behaviors more suitable to sleep. Some of this is simply to have a shower, clean teeth, read a book. But the app also offers a form of practical tips to help them establish sleep routines, things like how to set up their bedroom, what to do during the day to improve their chances of sleep and how to reduce those negative repetitive thoughts that come in at night.
Dr Werner-Seidler said Sleep Ninja was the only such app designed specifically for adolescents, and the results so far had been very encouraging. She added that we also saw rates of depression drop from 77 percent at the start of the study to 44 percent after using the app.

Animal populations across the world have been reduced by 69% in less than 50 years, according to a new scientific report. The report’s authors are calling for urgent action to restore the natural world.
The Living Planet Report (LPR) is produced every two years by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Zoological Society of London. The most recent report, released on October 13, 2022, shows that almost 70% of the world’s monitored wildlife was lost between 1970 and 2018. The report is based on research from 195 countries around the world. Data was collected from almost 32,000 populations of 5,230 species.
Although the average global loss of wildlife is 69%, the rate is greater in the global south. Latin America and the Caribbean in particular have seen the sharpest fall, having lost 94% of their wildlife since 1970. Across the world, the biggest drop was in freshwater populations of wildlife — including almost 1,400 species of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles — which have decreased by 83%.
The report identifies several causes for wildlife loss, including hunting, farming, the loss of forests, pollution and climate change. However, the report also promotes solutions, such as designing less destructive food production systems, urgently protecting the Amazon rainforest, limiting the use of fossil fuels, and creating new laws to protect our natural environment.
Commenting on the report, Marco Lambertini, director general of WWF International, called the figures “terrifying”, and said “we need to help nature recover and not simply halt its loss.” In December 2022, world leaders are meeting in Montreal for the 15th UN Biodiversity Conference, also known as COP 15. The authors of the LPR say that this is an opportunity for a global plan to deal with wildlife loss and restore nature. “Government leaders must step up at COP 15,” said Lambertini. “The world is watching.”
32.What does the author mainly want to show by listing the numbers in the first three paragraphs
A.The causes of the urgent situation. B.The seriousness of wildlife loss worldwide.
C.The detailed process of the research. D.The drop in freshwater populations of wildlife.
33.According to the report, what is a possible solution to population decline of wildlife
A.Stop hunting and farming. B.Not permit the production of wildlife food.
C.Replace the fossil fuels with renewable energy. D.Offer legal protection of natural environment.
34.What does the underlined word “halt” mean in the last paragraph
A.Accept. B.Fear. C.Stop. D.Suffer.
35.What is Lambertini’s attitude towards wildlife loss
A.Concerned. B.Indifferent. C.Positive. D.Satisfied.

My family had only recently moved into a new neighborhood. All of my neighbors have been very friendly and helpful since we moved in.
However, Mrs Davis, an elderly lady living in the last house on the other side of the road, escaped associating with us, or anyone else. When I asked around the neighborhood why, they warned me not to go after her because they thought she was insane (精神失常的) and preferred staying alone after losing her husband and only daughter in an aircraft crash. After that, she stayed isolated (孤立的) from all the neighbors, refusing all the care and help.
I often saw her on the streets during the evening, but she was always by herself. She appeared weak and I always wanted to help her, but after hearing what my neighbors had said about her, I wasn’t sure whether I should.
One day, when I was on my way to the supermarket, our paths crossed. I was walking past her and overheard her singing a tune. It immediately drew my attention because my parents used to sing the same song with me. I began to sing along with her, and she smiled at me for the first time. But when I smiled back, she quickly hurried her pace and went home.
She seemed very different to me that day. I refused to trust my neighbors’ claims that she had cut herself off from the rest of society because she was insane, so the next day, I knocked on her door. Mrs Davis was home, and instead of letting me in, she just looked at me silently through the window. I noticed her staring at me and was about to walk to the window when she quickly closed the curtains.
The next day, I revisited her house. “Hello, I brought you something,” I called out to her. “It’s the record of the music you were singing yesterday.”

M: For years, thousands have traveled to the Rocky Mountains in search of hidden treasure. Adventurers were on the hunt for a bronze box. It was said to be filled with diamonds, rubies, and gold. On June 6, news broke that the box was finally found. The person who found it has chosen to remain unidentified. Forrest Fenn is an antiques collector. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Fenn created the treasure hunt more than 10 years ago. He hoped it would inspire people to explore nature. Fenn received a picture confirming that the box had been found. Fenn published an autobiography in 2010. It’s called The Thrill of the Chase. In the book, he gave some clues about where the treasure box was located. The clues were in a form of a 24-verse poem. Readers had to use the poem to solve the puzzle. A few people even died in the attempt. The jewel-filled box is estimated to be worth more than $1 million. It took him two trips to bring everything to the hiding spot. “I feel halfway kind of glad, halfway kind of sad because the chase is over,” Fenn says. “I congratulate the thousands of people who participated in the search and hope they will continue to be drawn by the promise of other discoveries.”

57.考查时态语态。句意:古琴是一种七弦琴,至今已被流传有3000多年的历史。动词pass意为“传递”。分析句子结构可知,which引导定语从句,修饰The guqin,本空为从句谓语。 由more than 3,000 years so far判断,从句用现在完成时;从句主语which代替The guqin,与pass为被动关系,故用现在完成时的被动语态。故填has been passed。

67.参考范文:
The door opened and Mrs Davis’ eyes widened in surprise at the sight of me standing there. I held out the record, “I thought you might enjoy this.” Mrs Davis slowly took it from my hands, staring at it. For a moment, she seemed lost in memories. “Thank you,” she whispered. Then I was invited into her house, feeling a sense of connection blossoming between us. “I used to listen to this song with my husband and daughter. It was their favorite,” she shared stories of her love for music, and the pain of her loss. When I left her house, I offered to hug her, and Mrs Davis’ eyes shone with newfound hope.
Several days later in the morning, the doorbell rang at my house. Surprising and delightful, it was Mrs Davis! She stood at our doorstep, holding a tray of freshly baked cookies, her eyes sparkling with warmth, “I wanted to thank you for bringing light to my life.” I replied excitedly, “I’m just more than glad to see you.” Gradually, Mrs Davis no longer cut herself from the world and she became a regular visitor to my house, also finding her way back to the community that cared for her. Sometimes, I realized that all it took was a small act of kindness to break down the barriers of loneliness.
