When you are learning a language, listening, speaking and writing are important, but reading can also be very helpful. When you read, you can not only learn some new words, but also learn how to use them. Here are some good reading tips.
Firstly, try to read at the right level. Read something that you can understand. If it is too hard for you, it is not interesting.
Secondly, try to understand the new words. If there are four or five new words on a page, don’t use a dictionary. Instead, try to guess their meanings as you read. Mark them with a pencil. Then look them up in a dictionary when you finish reading, and write them in your own vocabulary book. Try to remember them.
Thirdly, try to read for a short time once a day. Fifteen minutes or half an hour every day is better than two hours every Sunday. For example, you can read before you go to bed, or after you get up or at lunchtime.
Lastly, read something that interests you. Choose a newspaper, a book or a magazine about a subject that you like. It will be easy enough for you to understand.

Can family be your secret to language learning success
If you want to get into language learning but haven’t managed it on your own yet, learning with your family might be just the extra motivation (动力) you need and one of the most effective and easiest ways.
Why do we learn language as a family
Learning a language as a family can help add motivation. If your family is competitive, the desire to be the best might make you study even harder than you learn alone.
Learning as a family gives you built-in conversation partners. Practice is important when learning a language, but you can’t always have a native-level language exchange partner at the ready. However, if you have a family full of other language learners, you can work in a little conversation practice whenever you have a moment.
Learning a language as a family is also a fun group activity. Everyone loves a game night or movie night. It’s a fun way to break up the daily routine and reconnect with those you love. Maybe it would be much better to learn a language while spending an interesting night with your family.
How do we start learning a language as a family
Keep it real. If your family loves cooking together, you can start by learning words and phrases for foods and kitchen tasks, and you can make shopping lists in the target (目标) language.
Take notes. Language isn’t just speaking; it’s reading and writing, too. Encourage your family to text each other in your target language. You could also surprise each other with notes on pillows, bathroom mirrors, inside dresser drawers—any place your family will find them.
Game the language. Your family can try playing board or card games that are popular in foreign countries where people speak the target language.
Plan a movie night. Watching movies in the target language can help you get a feel for the language as it’s used by native speakers. You can set the subtitles (字幕) to the target language, so you can see the words you’re hearing as you watch.
Let’s make it a habit to learn a language in our family. Then we could spend our spare time productively and make a great difference.
8.According to the passage, learning a language as a family _________.
A.makes us have less interest in communicating with family members
B.keeps us from talking with native-level language exchange partners
C.helps us remain the family routine as usual through group activities
D.offers us extra opportunities to practice language whenever possible
9.According to the writer’s suggestions, we can _________.
A.have language learning involved into family’s kitchen tasks
B.hide the target language subtitles in a movie while watching
C.surprise the family by painting a picture on a bathroom mirror
D.play popular card games in other countries in our native language
10.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To compare different ideas on how to learn a language as a family.
B.To introduce the achievements of learning a language in a family.
C.To explain why learning a language has many benefits for a family.
D.To call on us to make language learning part of a family’s activity.

LisaI prefer to use learning apps to help the students do more practice. They are always efficient(高效的). They help me save time and energy. I can know who is not good at something in a short time by checking the students’ information on the apps. Therefore, I can explain the key points and difficult points to them in time. It is convenient. FrankI can finish my homework faster on a learning app. I can know which is right or wrong without waiting for the next day’s corrections(校正)by the teacher. Besides, I can enjoy the lively videos on the apps. They are more interesting than the pictures on the textbooks.
Learning apps, which are developed for students in different levels, have made a hit these years. The apps are welcomed by some teachers. However, the new way of assigning(布置)homework leads to a heated discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of learning apps.
Paul I’m Frank’s father. I don’t think it’s a good idea to use learning apps. They make Frank’s handwriting and eyesight worse and worse. Exams cause anxiety(焦虑). The silence of the hall; the sound of the clock; the proud look of the person sitting at the neighboring desk who has finished 15 minutes early. So there is little surprise that those who worry about taking exams do worse than those who do not.
According to a recent research by Maria Theobald, perhaps, it is not the pressure(压力) of the exam hall that causes the problem. It is the pressure of review.
Dr. Theobald worked with 309 students who were preparing for a very important final exam. During the 100 days before that, the students used an app which showed them old exam questions and recorded their performance. They also sat a mock exam(模拟考) 40 days before the real exam. To know their levels of anxiety, students were given 1-5 points to questions every day.
Dr. Theobald found that anxiety on the day of the test did not predict exam performance at all. What predicted it was the level of knowledge a student showed in the mock and the earlier digital-learning activities. Those who perform ed well in these also did well in the real exam. And what actually affected students were high levels of anxiety during the weeks before the real exam took place. The greater a student’s anxiety in the days before the exam, the less knowledge he or she got during that time.
To reduce the anxiety, Dr. Theobald has his advice for students. First, they can raise their confidence in their own abilities. Second, they can reduce the importance of the test by telling themselves that, though it is important, it is not a life-or-death situation.
23.Which of the following affects exam results most according to paragraph 1-2
A.The sound of the clock. B.The silence of the hall.
C.The pressure of the review. D.The proud look from the neighboring desk.
24.Paragraph 4 mainly talks about the ________ of the research.
A.process B.results C.reasons D.importance
25.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 5 refer to
A.The test. B.The advice. C.The anxiety. D.The situation.
26.What can we infer(推断) from the text
A.The more mock exams you take, the better results you will get.
B.Students should pay less attention to the test to reduce the anxiety.
C.If you have more knowledge before exams, you will have less anxiety in exams.
D.Anxiety during review affects exam performance more than that during the exams.
27.What can be the best title for the text
A.Can you perform well in exams B.What may cause you exam anxiety
C.How can you reduce exam anxiety D.Does anxiety affect exam performance

Life is full of experiences. We can always remember the ones when we first did something. When I was in Grade 5, I was told to take part in an English writing competition. I was too nervous to speak when the teacher reported the news to the whole class. In order not to let my teacher and my classmates down, I trained myself very hard for the hope of being the winner of the competition.
I tried my best to learn as many words as possible. I spent all my time training so that I was able to memorize a lot more words, sentence structures and grammar rules as well as reading articles. The complete change seemed kind of strange in some all my classmates’ eyes.
The big day finally came. When I first saw the topic of the competition, a sudden feeling of nervousness came to me. At that moment, I realized I had no choice (选择) but to calm down (平静下来). Then I took a deep breath, and began to think up ideas about the topic. I quickly wrote down the structure, main ideas and other necessary words and phrases. As the finishing time was near, I tried my best to write more quickly. Unluckily, I didn’t complete my writing because I did not plan the time well.
The result came out two weeks later. To my surprise, I got the second prize. All my classmates cheered for me. Even though I was not the first prize winner, I could still feel pride and happiness spreading around me.

What we need to do is to stay focused on getting my homework done well.
One of the first is to eat and drink before starting; I don’t want to get hungry or thirsty when I’m doing my homework. Eat things that are healthy will give you energy for a long time, such as an apple or a cheese stick—not things that will quickly wear off, like sweets.
Make sure your work area has good lighting; you don’t want to hurt your eyes while reading. It should also have a table and a comfortable chair.
Some people like to have music going. This is fine if you like it but try to avoid loud songs, since these can distract you.
Try not to do your homework in the kitchen, where people might be cooking, the living room, where kids maybe playing, or never a computer or television.
The best places are your desk, if you have one, and the dining room table.
Once you have a good place to study, and feel ready, take out everything you need to do an assignment. You should have your agenda (your list of assignments and when they should be handed in). Decide which will take the most time, and do them last; do the easier assignments first to give yourself plenty of time to do the harder ones.
How to Stay Focused on Homework
Comfort ※ Eating and drinking something is necessary before starting your homework. ※ Make sure work area 43 . ※ Choose 44 that won’t distract you when you’re working.
Places Avoid the kitchen and the living room and keep away from the computer and 45 .
Organization ※ 46 all the assignments you have to do and when you have to finish them. ※ Do the easiest first so that you can have enough time to do the 47 later.

I am Canadian. I started learning French when I was 10 years old. But my whole experience with the language was in the classroom. All of that changed, however, during my last summer of high school. As a 17-year-old girl, I flew across the country by myself for the first time! I headed for Quebec to live in the province with a French-speaking host family, who didn’t speak any English. And I would learn French at a local school.
On the first day of school, the local school gave us students a test to determine (测定) our language level. We were required to speak only French all summer.
I made every effort to communicate in a second language by making new friends, seeing movies and even ordering food from restaurants in French. Though I couldn’t understand most of it at the very beginning, the whole experience was exciting and refreshing.
On weekends, my classmates and I took trips to different places around the province. On one trip, we went whale watching on the St. Lawrence River. Even though it was raining, we could see huge whales swimming around our boat. The most unforgettable (令人难忘的) part of our trip was a visit to historic Quebec City. I walked along the stone streets, took pictures of the European-style (欧式的) buildings, and learned some stories there.
Finally my efforts paid off! At the end of the summer, I was able to communicate pretty well. I couldn’t wait to go back to school and talk with my French teacher. Being fully lost in a French-speaking environment was a valuable learning experience. And it could be the main reason for my improvement in French.

Hello, I’m Wei Fen. Last year, I did not like my English class. Every class was like a bad dream. The teacher spoke very quickly and I couldn’t understand her most of the time. I was afraid to ask questions because I didn’t know how to read the words correctly. I just hid behind my textbook and never said anything in class.
Then one day I watched an English movie—Toy Story. I fell in love with this exciting and funny movie. So I began to watch other English movies, too. Although I could not understand everything the characters said, their body language and the expressions on their faces help me get the meaning. I understood I could get the meaning by listening for just the key words. I found out that listening to something interesting is the secret to the language learning. I also learned some useful sentences like “It’s a piece of cake”or “It serves you right”. I did not understand these at first. But because I wanted to understand the story, I looked them up in a dictionary.
Now I really enjoy my English class. I want to learn new words and more grammar so that I can have a better understanding of English movies.

Are you facing problems in learning English If so, I’d like to share the following 88 ways with you.
At first, I would say it is imitation (模仿). I like 89 Disney cartoons. They are so interesting that I view them again and again. I don’t remember when I began to imitate the 90 , but I do remember that one day my English teacher said that I pronounced quite 91 and my intonation (语调) was also good. I think by imitation, I get not only 92 pronunciation and intonation, but also a kind of “feeling” for English.
The other way is to guess the 93 of words in the context, and I got that quite often. Once I was reading an English story 94 I came across a new word. But I was so lost in the story that I didn’t want to stop to 95 its meaning in the dictionary. So I looked around the word and guessed its meaning. Later, when I turned to an English dictionary, I found that I was right. How 96 I felt! Since then, I began to practice guessing ability 97 this way. By doing this, my ability improves and moreover, my reading speed increases!

【答案】23.C 24.B 25.A 26.D 27.D
【详解】本文是一篇议论文。主要讨论了影响考试成绩的压力来源。通过试验得出结论,即真正影响学生的是在真正考试前几周的高度焦虑。学生在考试前几天的焦虑程度越高,他或她在这段时间里学到的知识就越少。
23.细节理解题。根据“ it is not the pressure(压力) of the exam hall that causes the problem. It is the pressure of review.”可知,造成这个问题的不是考场的压力。而是复习的压力。故选C。
24.主旨大意题。根据第四段主要是关于实验的结论的,即考试前几天焦虑程度越高,复习获得的知识越少,考试结果越不好。故选B。

26.推理判断题。根据“Dr. Theobald found that anxiety on the day of the test did not predict exam performance at all.”可知,考试当天的焦虑根本不会影响考试成绩,“what actually affected students were high levels of anxiety during the weeks before the real exam took place. ”,可知,真正影响考试成绩的是考试前复习阶段的焦虑程度。故选D。
27.最佳标题题。根据全文都是关于考试中压力的来源,且用实验的方法告诉人们考试前期复习过程中压力才会影响考试成绩。故选D。

阅读短文,完成下面表格。
