Passage 1
Some people have a very poor sense of direction. Unluckily, I am one of them. I have visited a place many times but I may still get lost there the next time.
When I was a little girl, I never dared to ask strangers the way. And so I used to walk around in circles and hope that by chance I would get to the place I was going to.
Now, I am no longer too shy to ask people for directions, but I often receive helpless or even wrong information. So I try to avoid giving people wrong directions. If anyone ever asks me the way somewhere, I would say, “Sorry, I am a stranger here.”
Once on my way to work I was stopped by a man. He asked me if I could tell him the way to the Friendship Building. I gave him my usual reply. But just as I walked on only a few steps, I realized that he had asked the way to my office building. However, I had no time to turn back and look for him. I was rushing to meet with someone at my office and I didn’t want to keep him waiting.

Passage 3
At table, the British people pay special attention to table manners. For example, they shouldn’t talk at table or beat tableware (餐具). They have a strict requirement on how to use knives and forks, while Americans seldom do so. They like fast and convenient food. American’s favorite food are hamburgers, fried chicken and pizza. These diets keep the American obesity rate high. But from the diet habits, it is not difficult for us to find that the American do everything vigorously (活泼地) and resolutely and do not spend too much on the trifles (琐事).
There are also lots of different manners between Americans and Chinese, and some are totally even opposite. For Americans, when friends gather together, they do not like to talk about their salary (工资), age and marriage. They think they are their privacy (隐私) and they are more likely to keep their privacy. But in China, people like talking about them. In America, when people meet strangers, they prefer people to call their shortnames, because it would show how close they are. But in China, it is impolite to do that. In America, you will be hated if you say someone is old and do something special for them, because they think old people are useless in the world. For Chinese, old people are glad to hear that and you will be praised for doing things freely for old people. They like the sense of being respected.
There are different manners in different countries. And we should follow them when we travel to other countries.

Passage 4
If you are planning a trip to France in the future, you should be careful with the roads you take because some of them may just disappear.
The Passage du Gois (格伊斯通道) in France, which is a natural passage first discovered in 1701, connects the mainland of France and a small island called Noirmoutier (努瓦尔穆捷岛). It is about 4.2 kilometers in length. What has made the passage famous is that it periodically (周期性地) floods. Twice a day, it disappears under about four meters of water. The passage is accessible only during low tide which lasts about one hour. People can also drive on the passage half an hour before and after low tide.
Driving on the passage may be dangerous. Some drivers are caught in the tide because they drive at the wrong time. Besides, as the passage is covered with water for most of the day, it is slippery all the time.
To ensure the safety of drivers and tourists, signs are posted on both ends of the passage to tell people whether the passage is passable or not. There are also poles (柱子) set along the passage for people to climb up when they are trapped in the water. People are warned to drive slowly and make no stops on the passage. Also, they are not allowed to park on the passage.
Many people visit the Passage du Gois every day. Some of them risk driving on it and others are just interested in watching it disappear underwater and emerge again.

Passage 5
Mapping out the future
Last summer, my parents and I took a drive to another state. A few hours into the trip, we took a wrong turn. But our trusty GPS pulled up a map of the area and got us back. It made me wonder: Who created maps in the first place After some searching online, I learned that people who map out roads, mountains, oceans, and other places around the world are called cartographers.
What does a cartographer do
Cartographers, also called mapmakers, study geographic information. They use this information to make maps of places around the world. Some of these maps are digital. They are often used in GPS. Other maps are printed in books. To do their work, cartographers put together information from many different places. They also use ground surveys (调查). Some do ground surveys themselves. Most cartographers, however, depend on surveyors for this important information. Surveyors collect information for mapmaking. They measure (测量) land, air space, and water areas.
What does it take to be a cartographer
Most cartographers have a bachelor’s degree. The degree might be in cartography, geography, or something similar. Students who are interested in becoming cartographers should learn as much as they can about geography. It also helps to take courses in math and computer science.
With the rise of computer-based tools such as GPS, cartographers need stronger computer skills than they did in the past.
___________
In the US, jobs for cartographers are expected to grow. This is due to the increasing use of maps in the armed forces. Also, digital maps have increasingly become a main part of GPS.
According to what I’ve read about cartographers, I’d say that their work is very important to a lot of people. Next time a map keeps me from getting lost, I’ll be sure to thank a cartographer!
61.In Paragraph 1, the writer included his experience in order to show ________.
A.the GPS is only needed when driving to another place
B.it is common to get lost on a trip
C.a mapmaker’s work is important
D.the GPS is not always useful
62.The writer talked about cartographers from ________ aspects.
A.two B.three C.four D.five
63.Surveyors can do all these following things except (除了) ________.
A.doing ground surveys B.collecting information
C.doing some mapping D.doing some measuring
64.Which of the following best fits the blank in the passage
A.Will more cartographers be needed
B.Will the cartographers be replaced by robots
C.Why is it hard for cartographers to find jobs
D.Why do cartographers make different maps

Passage 1
Camping in your backyard is full of fun, whatever your age. It's great for keeping us relaxed. Follow these instructions and you'll have a night you'll never forget!
Put up your tent.
Depending on the number of family members and guests, you may need more than one tent. Tell your friends to bring their tents if needed. Follow the instructions or check out the articles on how to put up a tent on the Internet.
Prepare your bedding(寝具).
If you want your guests to be able to relax, you’ll put something soft to lie on the floor. You can fill the tent with soft toys and blankets(毯子). Have lightweight(重量轻的)sleeping bags or cotton blankets. They are especially important if you live where the night temperatures drop greatly.
Prepare a seating area.
If you have a picnic table, that would work best. If not, set up a few chairs and a small table to set out drinks and food. A simple choice is to lay out a blanket in the sun, so that your friends can eat and talk. Be sure the grass isn't wet!
Make memories.
Plan some activities, and take photos of you, your family members, and your friends. Remember to take one large group shot(镜头) with everyone smiling and laughing. Be sure to make copies for everyone!

Saying no can be very difficult. People who are very shy often have little confidence. It is very hard for them to say no. They would feel shy when they say no, but doing things that they don’t want to do will make them unhappy.
A simple and direct “No” is the best way. If you want to explain, you can keep it simple. Just say, “No, I’ve already made plans for this time” or “No, I’m not free at that time.”
Other indirect but polite ways of saying no:
● Sorry, I can’t do this right now.
● I’m afraid I can’t, but thank you for asking.
● Please accept (接受) that I cannot come.
● I’d rather not.
To say no you should:
● Start the sentence with the word “No”.
● Shake (摇晃) your head when you say no to make sure others understand. Your voice should be clear and direct.
Sometimes it is difficult to say no. You can try to reply and explain in the following way:
“Sorry. I would have taken care of your cat next weekend, but I will be going out. I know it will be hard to find someone to take care of the cat. I will try to help you next time.” Remember that: you have the right (权利) to say no!

五、多任务混合阅读
Passage 1
Just as in face-to-face communication, there are some basic rules of behavior that should be followed on the Internet. The basic rule is simple: (1)treat others in the same way you would want to be treated. Imagine how you'd feel if you were in the other person's shoes.
For anything you're about to send, ask yourself, "Would I say that to the person's face " If the answer is no, rewrite and reread. If someone in the chat room is rude to you, you needn't fire back. You should either ignore(不理睬) the person, or use your chat software to block his or her messages. Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room.
Everyone was new to the network once. Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, be kind about it. If you do decide to tell someone about the mistake, point it out politely. At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended(冒犯). (2)It is ________ to ask others ________ questions such as their age, sex and family. Unless you know the person very well or you are both comfortable with sharing personal information, don't ask such questions.
80.将画线句子(1)译成中文。
81.在(2)句的空白处分别填入一个适当的单词,使上下文通顺。

Passage 2
Every year, more than nine million people all over the world come to visit London. They go to the museums and theaters; they look at interesting old buildings or have a drink in a park.
A quick and easy way to get to different places in the city is to take an underground train. The London underground is one of the best and most widely used transport networks (网状组织) in the world. The trains run all day and most of the night. 1. You’d better not take the underground between eight o’clock and ten o’clock in the morning, or four o’clock and six o’clock in the afternoon. 2. The trains are so crowded that you can hardly move or find a place to sit.
London’s famous red buses form a big part of getting around in London. Although the London underground is the fastest and the simplest way of getting around London, the buses play their part and are an experience you should try at least once. By sitting on the top deck (层) of the bus, you can get a great sightseeing (观光) experience of London as well.
Some special visitors’ buses take you to many of the interesting places in the city on one journey. It takes about one and a half hours, but you can cancel your journey and get off (and on again) at the different places you want to visit.
London taxis are called “black cabs”. Most of them are black, but some are not. You can stop one if it has a “For Hire (供租用的)” sign on it. The drivers are friendly and helpful.
In a word, London is a big and beautiful city with lots to see and to do.
85.任务一:根据短文内容简要回答问题。
(1)How many kinds of transportation can visitors use to get around in London List them.
(2) If you go to visit London, which two kinds of transportation are you going to choose Why
86.任务二:将短文中画线的句子译成汉语。
(1)
(2)
87.任务三:请给短文拟一个适当的英文标题。
Passage 3
Foreign visitors are often puzzled in Japan because most streets there don't have names. In Japan, people use landmarks instead of street names. For example, the Japanese will say to travelers," Go straight down to the corner. Turn left at the big hotel and go past a fruit market. The post office is just across the bus stop. " In the Midwest of America, usually there are not many landmarks. There are no mountains. So the land is very flat. In many places there are no towns or buildings within miles. Instead of landmarks, people will tell you directions and distance. In Kansas (堪萨斯州) , for example, people will say, "Go north two miles. Turn east, and then go another mile. "
People in Los Angeles, California, have no idea of distance on the map. They measure (测量) distance by telling time. "How far away is the post office " you ask. "Oh," they answer, "it's about five minutes from here, "You say, "Yes, but how many miles away is it " They don't know.
(1)希腊人有时甚至不尝试指示方向,因为极少的游览者懂希腊语。 Instead of giving you the direction, a Greek will often say, "Follow me. "Then he'll lead you through the streets of the city to the post office.
Sometimes a person doesn't know the answer to your question. A New Yorker might say, "Sorry, I have no idea. " But in Yucatan, Mexico (墨西哥), no one answers "I don't know. " People in Yucatan think "I don't know" is not polite. They usually give an answer, often a wrong one. A visitor can get very, very lost in Yucatan!
One thing will help you everywhere. (2)You might not understand a person's words, but maybe you can understand his body language. He or she will usually turn and then point in the correct direction. Go on in that direction and you may find the post office!

" People in Yucatan think "I don't know" is not polite. They usually give an answer, often a wrong one. A visitor can get very, very lost in Yucatan!
