I arrived home from work, my mind racing. I was scheduled to perform an experiment using a pricey piece of equipment, but I had spent the whole day worrying about the experiment which was on the top of my agenda (日程), and I amazingly longed to shut off my anxious thoughts. So after dinner, I made a cup of hot chocolate, stretched myself on my sofa, and opened a page. Almost instantly, my mind left behind the details of experimental design and stepped into a land of monsters, magic dust, and man-like bears comprising a wonderful world distinct (不同的) from my daily life. It was exactly what I needed.
Growing up, I was virtually never a big fan of novels. My classmates would be crazy about the latest Harry Potter book, while my copy sat collecting dust on a shelf. Instead, I would choose to read through the reference books related to my academic fields for better grades. After I started graduate school, extracurricular reading didn’t appeal to me at all but I spent most of my time on campus digesting research papers and textbooks and my mind couldn’t handle processing fact-filled nonfiction books at home, too. So I knew that I needed to find a way to enjoy reading again.
To help me stick with it, I made a New Year’s resolution: I would read two fiction books per month for the entire year. The result was an almost instant appreciation of fiction, along with many unexpected results including ones that have benefited my schoolwork.
What surprised me the most was how much I learned. Some of the best books I read were historical fictional stories happening in a realistic historical setting. I learned about life in different countries, as well as struggles people there faced during difficult periods in their histories. The books have helped me build sympathy and understanding, with an unexpected benefit: I’ve started to think more deeply about the diversity of issues in the scientific community and could serve it, heart and soul.
24. What did the author do to wipe out the anxiety
A. He drowned it in chocolate. B. He conducted an experiment.
C. He slept on the sofa leisurely. D. He escaped into a fantasy world.
25. What does the author mean by the underlined part in paragraph 2
A. Reading novels was a waste of time.
B. Reading a good book was time well spent.
C. He was too busy to take good care of his books.
D. The Harry Potter book wasn’t as good as expected.
26. How did the New Year’s resolution benefit the author
A. More sympathy went out to him.
B. His moral values were strengthened.
C. He learned much about religious diversity.
D. He gained new insight into his academic fields.
27. What’s the best title of the text
A. Reading: A Lifelong Hobby B. The Power of Research Papers
C. Novels: Love at Second Sight D. The Benefits of History Reading
D 25. A 26. D 27. C

17-year-old Tibetan girl Cigla is a freshman at Nagqu No. 2 Senior High School in Lhasa, which sit 3,650 meters above sea level. She now plays point guard for the school’s 12-member female basketball team.
“Practice makes perfect. You get used to the altitude when you love the sport and train hard enough,” said the potential basketball star, who has been crazy about the sport since taking it up three years ago.
With outstanding speed and accurate passes, she never fails to shine on the basketball court, even when she competes against the boys. Though she is a freshman in high school, Cigla already has a clear picture of her future--entering a sports college to study basketball. In the eyes of Cila, who comes from a poor herder’s (牧民的) family in northern Tibet, studying in Lhasa, the most developed city in this area, has made it much easier for her to realize her basketball dream.
With an average altitude of over 4,500 meters. Nagqu is among the most uninhabitable places in Tibet. Low-oxygen environments and extreme weather have long influenced the health of Nagqu students, hampering the development of primary education in the area.
Like Cigla, many students at the school are from poor farmers’ and herders’ families. Dawa Droma, a senior student also on the school’s female basketball team, recalled, “I had never touched a basketball before that game but joined the class team anyway. When I scored and heard my classmates cheer for me, I couldn’t feel more proud. That’s how I fell in love with basketball and why I never looked back.” Reflecting on the influence of basketball on her life, Dawa Droma said the sport had helped her get fit and build up confidence over the years. “Meeting players from different schools has certainly made me a more outgoing person,” she said.
28. What do we know about Cigla from the text
A. She loves playing basketball but dislikes training hard.
B. She is in Grade One at a senior high school at a high altitude.
C. She’s been crazy about playing basketball since she was 12 years old.
D. She’s got used to the altitude because she has lived there for years.
29. In Cigla’s opinion, what can help her realize her basketball dream
A. Her school’s location. B. Her clear plans.
C. Her family background. D. Her entering a sports college.
30. What does the underlined word “hampering” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. promoting. B. maintaining. C. interpreting. D. preventing.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Dawa Droma barely feels proud when scoring.
B. Dawa Droma has been affected by basketball greatly.
C. Playing basketball improves Dawa Droma’s sense of touch.
D. Players from different schools have become Dawa Droma’s friends
B 29. A 30. D 31. B

根据第一段中“17-year-old Tibetan girl Cigla is a freshman at Nagqu No. 2 Senior High School in Lhasa, which sit 3,650 meters above sea level. (17岁的藏族女孩Cigla是拉萨那曲第二高级中学的一名新生,该校位于海拔3650米的地方。)”可知,Cigla是高海拔地区高中一年级的一名学生。故选B。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“In the eyes of Cila, who comes from a poor herder’s(牧民的) family in northern Tibet, studying in Lhasa, the most developed city in this area, has made it much easier for her to realize her basketball dream.( Cigla来自西藏北部一个贫穷的牧民家庭。在她看来,在西藏最发达的城市拉萨学习,让她更容易实现自己的篮球梦。)”可知,Cigla认为在西藏最发达的城市拉萨学习,让她更容易实现自己的篮球梦即学校的位置能够帮助她实现自己的篮球梦。故选A。
根据划线词前面的内容“Nagqu is among the most uninhabitable places in Tibet. Low-oxygen environments and extreme weather have long influenced the health of Nagqu students(那曲是西藏最不宜居住的地方之一。低氧环境和极端天气长期影响那曲学生的健康)”以及后文的“the development of primary education in the area(该地区初等教育的发展)”可知,那曲低氧环境和极端天气长期影响那曲学生的健康并且阻碍了当地的教育事业的发展。故划线词与D选项“preventing.(阻碍)”为同义词。故选D。

In 2009, when Qatar (卡塔尔) bid to host the 2022 Football World Cup, it promised a carbon-neutral (碳中和) event. Even back then, the prospect of neutralizing the carbon-dioxide emissions (排放) generated by hosting hundreds of thousands of fans in newly constructed stadiums, in a desert state, seemed fanciful. So it is proving. In their greenhouse-gas accounting report, published last year, FIFA (国际足联) and the Qatari organizers estimated that the World Cup would generate 3.6 million tons of CO2 emissions. Estimating emissions for big sporting events is a relatively new practice and methods can vary, but that figure is higher than any recent World Cup or Olympics.
It is also likely to be a significant underestimate. A report in May 2022 by Carbon Market Watch (CMW), a climate watchdog (监督者), found that the official forecast failed to account accurately for the emissions generated from stadiums. FIFA, which insists its method is “best in practice”, reckons that the majority of the emissions (52%) will come from fans and players travelling to Qatar, while less than 25% are from stadium construction. That is because organizers expect these stadiums to be used for years after the World Cup, spreading their carbon footprint way into the future.
CMW believes such an excuse is far from reasonable. Before the World Cup, Qataris were able to get by with only one stadium, it points out. Consequently, it estimates that the emissions from stadium construction for the World Cup are undercounted by a factor of eight. It puts the real figure at 5 million tons. Though it amounts to less than 0.02% of the world’s annual emissions, sports teams and organizations should have set a positive example in this.
To remove the doubt from outside Qatar has established the Global Carbon Council (GCC), a dedicated environmental agency. Beyond adjusting for World Cup emissions, the GCC will promote a path to “a low-carbon future”, a great step for a country with the world’s highest emissions per person. Yet the agency is still at its early stage. Only six projects, saving less than 600,000 tons, have been approved so far.
32. What is the main problem Qatar and FIFA are faced with at present
A. The 2022 World Cup isn’t as successful as it should be.
B. They may fail to keep the promise to hold a green event.
C. The figure they published is higher than that of other events
D. They are unfamiliar with the new practice of the World Cup.
33. How does Qatar and FIFA cut down the carbon footprint of the World Cup
A. By insisting on its way of environmental protection.
B. By promising to use the new stadiums for more years.
C. By blaming the greenhouse-gas emissions on travelers.
D. By cooperating with Carbon Market Watch for instructions.
34. Why does the CMW refuse to accept the explanation given by Qatar and FIFA
A. 5 million tons accounts for a little of the annual emissions.
B. The stadium construction for the World Cup sets a bad example.
C. The method they employed in estimating the emissions is unscientific.
D. There will be more stadiums than Qatar actually needs after the World Cup.
35. What can be learned from the last paragraph
A. The GCC is an agency specially established for the World Cup
B. The Qataris attach great importance to environmental protection.
C. The Qataris need to make more efforts to hold a carbon-neutral event.
D. The GCC has achieved a lot in cutting down greenhouse-gas emissions.
B 33. C 34. D 35. C
根据第一段“In 2009, when Qatar (卡塔尔) bid to host the 2022 Football World Cup, it promised a carbon-neutral (碳中和) event. Even back then, the prospect of neutralizing the carbon-dioxide emissions (排放) generated by hosting hundreds of thousands of fans in newly constructed stadiums, in a desert state, seemed fanciful. So it is proving. In their greenhouse-gas accounting report, published last year, FIFA (国际足联) and the Qatari organizers estimated that the World Cup would generate 3.6 million tons of CO2 emissions.(在2009年卡塔尔竞标举办2022年足球世界杯时,它承诺要举办一场碳中和的赛事。然而,在那个时候,对于一个沙漠国家来说,要在新建的体育场中容纳数十万球迷并中和产生的二氧化碳排放,这似乎是一个不切实际的幻想。事实证明也是如此。去年发布的国际足联和卡塔尔组委会的温室气体核算报告估计,世界杯将产生360万吨的二氧化碳排放)”可知,卡塔尔和国际足联目前面临的主要问题是他们可能无法兑现举办绿色活动的承诺。故选B项。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“It is also likely to be a significant underestimate. A report in May 2022 by Carbon Market Watch (CMW), a climate watchdog (监督者), found that the official forecast failed to account accurately for the emissions generated from stadiums. That is because organizers expect these stadiums to be used for years after the World Cup, spreading their carbon footprint way into the future.(但这也很可能是一个被严重低估的数字。气候监督组织CMW2022年5月的一份报告发现,官方预测未能准确计算体育场产生的排放量。国际足联坚持认为其方法是“最佳实践”,它认为大部分排放(52%)将来自球迷和球员前往卡塔尔的旅行,而不到25%的排放来自体育场建设)”可知,卡塔尔和国际足联将温室气体排放归咎于旅行者来减少世界杯的碳足迹。故选C项。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“That is because organizers expect these stadiums to be used for years after the World Cup, spreading their carbon footprint way into the future.(这是因为组织者希望这些体育场在世界杯后还能继续使用多年,从而将它们的碳足迹延续到未来)”以及第三段“CMW believes such an excuse is far from reasonable. Before the World Cup, Qataris were able to get by with only one stadium, it points out. Consequently, it estimates that the emissions from stadium construction for the World Cup are undercounted by a factor of eight. It puts the real figure at 5 million tons. Though it amounts to less than 0.02% of the world’s annual emissions, sports teams and organizations should have set a positive example in this.(但CMW认为这样的理由远非合理。它指出,在世界杯之前,卡塔尔人只有一个体育场就足够使用了。因此,它估计世界杯体育场建设产生的排放量被低估了八倍。它认为实际数字应为500万吨。虽然这仅占全球年排放量的不到0.02%,但运动队和组织本应在这方面树立积极榜样)”可知,CMW认为世界杯结束后,卡塔尔的体育场数量将超过实际需要,所以拒绝接受卡塔尔和国际足联的解释。故选D项。
35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“To remove the doubt from outside, Qatar has established the Global Carbon Council (GCC), a dedicated environmental agency. Beyond adjusting for World Cup emissions, the GCC will promote a path to “a low-carbon future”, a great step for a country with the world’s highest emissions per person. Yet the agency is still at its early stage. Only six projects, saving less than 600,000 tons, have been approved so far.(为了消除外界的疑虑,卡塔尔已经成立了全球碳委员会(GCC),这是一个专门的环境保护机构。除了调整世界杯排放外,GCC还将推动走向“低碳未来”的道路,这对于一个人均排放量居世界之首的国家来说是一个巨大的进步。然而,该机构仍处于早期阶段。到目前为止,只有六个项目获得批准,减排量不到60万吨)”可知,卡塔尔人需要做出更多努力来举办一场碳中和的活动。故选C项。
第二节:(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)

Tips for online learning
Online learning has the same basic elements as face-to-face learning. The major difference is that instruction is delivered online. Many of the strategies for effective face-to-face learning also apply to online learning. ____36____ Here are some strategies we recommend:
Create space to learn. Invest some time to understand your needs and preferences as a learner, and what an effective study environment looks like for you. For example, you might need a quiet place to study, or you might need to listen to classical music. Consider what equipment you might need. Wherever you study, try to minimize distractions. ____37____
Manage your time effectively. Spend some time getting familiar with your online courses, understanding what is expected of you, mapping out key deadlines, and planning study time. ____38____ Research shows that learners gain more information if they spread their study over multiple days or sessions. Make sure your routine works with your other commitments so you’re more likely to stick to it.
____39____ Just as with face-to-face learning, mental energy matters: take time to reflect on whether you have understood the materials, try to remember and sort the information you have learned to aid memory, test your understanding, mix different concepts and skills into the same study session to build connections and fluency, ask questions, participate in class discussions, and try teaching concepts to others.
Ask for assistance! In an online learning environment, you may need to ask lots of questions and take ownership over shaping the learning experience so that it meets your needs. ____40____
Finally, if you’re facing specific challenges such as illness, mental health, accessibility, balancing childcare responsibilities, etc., it’s important for you to reach out to your instructors or the relevant student support services for discussion and creative problem-solving.
A. Regularly reflect on the course materials.
B. A long-term routine will help you stay on track.
C. Actively review and apply what you have learned.
D. However, online learning may require some additional skills to be successful.
E. At the end of the week, reflect on how you did, and adjust your routine as required.
F. This might mean asking your instructors or peers for help, or attending study groups.
G. Work with your roommates or family to create personal space so you can stay focused.

Hill, though scared, managed to relay the emergency to the operator, her mother’s lifeline.

I learned about life in different countries as well as struggles people there faced during difficult periods in their histories.

A Reading: A Lifelong Hobby B. The Power of Research Papers
C. Novels: Love at Second Sight D. The Benefits of History Reading
D
To remove the doubt from outside, Qatar has established the Global Carbon Council (GCC), a dedicated environmental agency.
