Joey, once again, had taken his entire lunch plate and mixed all the food together. He did something like this pretty much every day at camp. “It’s an experiment,” he told the other campers. “Like what we do in class. It’s fun.” Joey was crazy about experiments, which usually consisted of taking one or more things, and combining them somehow, just like mixing all his food together. Joey would usually take a bite as part of the experiment, and would try to get the other kids at the table to try it too. However, almost nobody ever would like to. Joey’s experiments almost always tasted absolutely horrible.
Joey offered a bite of his unique lunch to the kids at his table. ‘Eric, the only one who sometimes liked Joey’s experiments, decided to give it a try. But even he couldn’t eat more than a bite, which meant the table would lose their “wasted food challenge” —AGAIN.
As part of camp lunch, all the tables weighed their leftovers at the end of the meal. One by one, the tables would line up, empty their plates into a garbage can (垃圾桶), and then the garbage can would be weighed. Whichever table had the least amount of wasted food got to be first in line the next day at lunch. Whichever table had the most amount of wasted food had to stay and wash all the dishes. Each table had the same amount of campers, to be fair. The tables were each named after a different kind of tree. Joey’s table was the Scrub Pine table. Scrub Pine table had lost so many times that everyone laughed at them.
Everyone blamed Joey. He was always the one with the most leftovers. But Joey insisted it wasn’t his fault. He had a trick. Before each weighing, he always mashed up (捣烂) his mixture into the smallest ball possible. Almost everyone else’s plate was littered with uneaten food. Joey just had a ball in the corner of the plate.
Scrub Pine table had already washed dishes four days in a row, and it looked like it was about to be five.

【答案】Paragraph1:
So Eric decided to find a way to figure out whose fault it was. He gathered the Scrub Pine table together and announced his plan: everyone would individually weigh their plates. The one who had the most amount of wasted food would wash all the dishes! The table erupted in surprise. Eager to finally know the truth, they readily nodded in agreement. Joey, taking a glimpse at the “tiny ball” in the corner of his plate, felt confident about his trick. The Scrub Pine table then lined up, Joey at the end of the line.
Paragraph 2:
One by one, Scrub Pine table each weighed their plates. Joey’s heart began pounding as he watched each plate being carefully weighed. Finally, it was his turn. He stared hard at the scale, expecting to witness a miracle. The trick failed him. It was indeed his fault! Embarrassed and ashamed, Joey apologized to his table and began with the dishes. All the others came to help. Joey promised to change his ways. From that day on, he ate neat no more experiments. Scrub Pine table would win the “wasted food challenge” at last!

The Champion of No Score
Maggie hated Tuesdays—Tuesdays meant gym class, gym class meant picking teams and picking teams meant Maggie would be picked last.
As a newcomer, she’d come up with a special title for each classmate to remember the other kids. There was Kevin, Champion of the Clean Desk. Lynnie, Champion of Knowing the Answer First… Thinking hard, she finally decided her own title: Champion of Quiet.
Maggie felt blue as Tuesday fell again. Mr. Murphy, the gym teacher, asked for volunteer captains to pick their own basketball teams. The usual hands shot into the air. Maggie sighed and glanced to her right. She caught the eye of Jasmine. Champion of Awkward, a girl who was sometimes picked last, too. Then Maggie had an idea. So when Mr. Murphy asked if anyone else wanted to volunteer, Maggie felt her hand slowly rise. Looking again at Jasmine, she took a big breath. Maybe it was time for her to use her voice.
“Maggie ” Mr. Murphy smiled. “You want a turn ”
“Yes,” she said.
The class whispered. Maggie leading a team
“Yes,” she answered again, louder this time.
Mr. Murphy waved Maggie to the front, where the other three captains—Champion of Jumping Rope, Champion of Never Misses a Shot, and Champion of Doesn’t Know How to Lose—stood, ready to choose their teams.
“Maggie, you get first pick,” said Mr. Murphy. “Jasmine,” announced Maggie. The class snickered. A joke More than once, Jasmine had tried to score on the wrong basket. Eyes wide, Jasmine took her place beside Maggie. The other three captains called out familiar names—the best players on the basketball court. It was Maggie’s turn again. “I choose Frank.” Frank (Champion of the Untied Shoelace) could not throw, or catch. He knew what it felt like to be the last pick. But not today.
Three very talented teams took shape. And then there was Maggie’s team. Maggie looked at her teammates. There stood Jasmine and Frank, plus Gillian (Champion of Chatter) and George (Champion of Sleepy). “I have chosen the worst team in the history of the world,” Maggie thought to herself.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Hand in hand, the Maggie team walked onto the court. The other teams looked at them with scornful smiles, assuming that the game would be a quick and easy victory. As the game began, Maggie’s team displayed a surprising lack of skill, but they played with heart and determination, Jasmine’s awkward attempts at scoring drew laughter, but she persevered, Frank’s untied shoelaces tripped him up repeatedly, but he never gave up. Gillian’s chatter turned into encouraging shouts, and George’s sleepy eyes lit up with the excitement of the game. Hard as they tried, they lost the game.
They did lose big, but something positive began to unfold in them. For the first time, they tasted the fulfillment and joy of being an integral part of a team. They transformed from a group of individuals to a cohesive unit, supporting and celebrating each other. As the final buzzer sounded, Maggie turned towards her team, beaming with pride. “We are, indeed, the Champions of No Score!” she declared and her teammates erupted into cheers. It enlightened them that victory was not solely determined by the scoreboard, but about the journey and the spirit of teamwork.

American football can be pretty competitive. From old opponents to fan drama, it’s just another part of the game. There have even been all-out violent fights in the name of defending your team. However, one high school football player Mario Hoefer showed that his love for the sport didn’t take priority over helping a person in need.
One afternoon in September, Charles City High School football team Mario was on faced nearby New Hampton in a Friday football game. Mario was captain of his team and Carter the quarterback of the opposing team.
It was really foggy and awfully hot. Filled with excited audience in the stands, the stadium felt like a heated steamer. Every player was we win sweat even during the warm-ups. All this meant the game would be a tough one and a test or the mind and body of both teams.
Soon the game began and for the first three quarters, each team seemed to have a chance to win and they took the lead by turns. So exhausted was Mario running back and forth that he cramped (抽筋) up twice. Each time he got a cramp near the New Hampton sideline, his teammates came to his assistance and stretched his leg to ease the cramp. Though feeling uncomfortable and worn out, Mario soldiered on as Charles City protected a slim lead and New Hampton attempted a late comeback.
In the fourth quarter, Mario saw his teammates across the field break up a crucial pass intended for Carter. Mario was about to cross over to the other side of the field to high five his teammates when he noticed that beside him, Carter fell onto the ground, screaming in pain, his eyes wide open and a look of panic on his face. Carter
grabbed his left calf (小腿肚), trying to move his leg in different positions. Judging from Carter’s desperate expression, Mario realized Carter was possibly experiencing an unbearable cramp just as he himself had gone through minutes before. But the New Hampton players were farther away from the quarterback.

【答案】
Mario knew what to do next. He bent over to check Carter. Having made sure Carter was indeed merely experiencing a cramp, he knelt down on the ground and held his left foot, pulling it towards himself to relieve Carter’s pain. Meanwhile, he comforted Carter," Take it easy, bro. You’ll be all right soon." Gradually, Carter’s panicked and painful expression began to soften. When his teammates and trainer made it to him, he had recovered. Carter rose to his feet, giving Mario a big hug to express his heartfelt gratitude. The game continued, nobody realizing the moment had been captured by a viewer in the stands.
The photo was posted on social media. Surprisingly, it received a flood of supportive responses. Thousands of netizens sang high praise for Mario’s act of kindness. Many thought what he did showed the true sportsmanship on the field and that the world needed to see more of such touching pictures. Mario didn’t expect his instinctive action would arouse such a big reaction, saying modestly," It was no big deal to step in to stretch Carter’s leg out. It was more like a brotherly thing to help him out." Mario and Carter, the two former opponents, have since become sincere friends, whose story convinces people of the true spirit of sports.

They’d been planning this forever. From her birth, most likely. Mya's mother, Helena loved hosting parties. And Aunt Beatrice loved birthdays. Together, they'd make her Sweet Sixteen a hundred times bigger, bolder, and brighter than it needed to be. They selected a theme every year and stuck to it. Her fourteenth had been the “Snow White” and her ninth had been the “Frozen”. They never told her what the theme was the day before. She'd just wake up her birthday morning, a brand new birthday outfit (一套服装) laid neatly on her dresser (an outfit related to the theme, of course) and she would open her door to see the adventure that lay ahead of her that day.
Mya had a few guesses as to what this year’s theme would be. A play on the words “Sweet Sixteen” was likely — a candy themed party, perhaps But she’d had a baking party a few years ago — and Helena was anything but repetitive. Mya didn't have any interest in cars, so she doubted a sports-car party was on the menu. She’d tried to look through her mother’s purchase history online, but her mother had been careful enough to delete everything recent. So the only clue left was the birthday outfit she would receive the next morning.
May 1st, Mya woke. The bright sunlight begged her eyes to open and she loved the day that her birthday took place. It was always nice out on May 1st and it never rained. This morning was no different than her previous birthdays. She sat up in her bed and looked to her dresser before slipping out of bed and inspecting the outfit. She unfolded it and held it against her body, seeing how it was like. It reached down, just above the ankle. Mya dressed, eyed herself in the mirror and found it was not so much a pretty outfit as she had received before. It was totally one for blue-collar workers!

【答案】例文1:
Suddenly, her thoughts were interrupted by a knock. Helena walked in. “What is my birthday theme this year, mum ” Mya asked. “Labor!” Helena answered in a firm voice. “But I was expecting a party!” her voice sounded shaky. Oh, how could she forget she was born on Labor’s Day! Mya’s feet brought her small steps to follow Helena to the van. On arriving at a farm, she noticed the vast land of wheat spreading over the horizon that made a splendid view itself. Their job was to remove the weeds.
With everything done, her face shone with a sweet smile. Several drops of sweat traced a path on her red and pink cheeks and she turned to Helena: “this is not bad, mum and I feel I’ve grown up enough to help you with something.” Helena pulled Mya into her arms and planted a big kiss on her forehead. The sun in May was shining brighter than ever like a fire ball. Picturing the good harvest of this year, they hit the road with a happy birthday song echoing in the van.
例文 2:
Suddenly, her thoughts were interrupted by a knock. “Is the birthday girl up ” Helena asked. Mya opened her bedroom door and surprisingly found they looked the same! Looking at Mya’s surprised face, Helena grinned and led her to the kitchen. There was no meal on the table. “Let’s prepare for the party together this time.” Aunt Beatrice said gladly dressed in the same outfit. It suddenly occurred to Mya that the theme this year was supposed to be “Sweet Labor, Sweet Sixteen”.
With everything done, her face shone with a sweet smile. Looking around the living room, Mya felt the happiness brought by labor the first time. “Happy Birthday!” Mya turned around in surprise. All of her friends jumped out of any hiding spots with everyone wearing the same outfit. They enjoyed the party and cleaned up together afterwards. Tired as Mya was, she pulled Helena and Beatrice into a hug tightly, saying “this is the best sweet sixteen ever.”

My parents were taking my sisters and me to the beach after several months of planning. We were all very excited. However, we didn’t know what awaited us that day.
We set out early as the beach was 200 miles away from our house. After travelling for two hours, we had only covered 100 miles because of the poor condition of the road. Moreover, that was a remote road and we didn’t see anyone or any house along the way. Suddenly, a loud noise frightened us. The car sharply swung to one side as my lather hit the brakes. Shocked, we got out and saw a flat tire (轮胎). Dad made a phone call to the roadside rescue, and the response he received was that it would take two hours to arrive. Dad decided to change the tire on his own, even though he had never done it before, as he always got help from a technician. He spent over an hour looking up how to change a flat tire in the car’s handbook and finally got it done. After he finished changing if, it was midday, so we decided to take a lunch break before hitting the road again.
After driving for another hour, the car made some strange sounds, slowed down and stopped. Dad tried to start the engine again, but it didn’t work. It was clear that something was wrong. With no houses or other vehicles in sight, we realized we were stranded (使滞留) in the middle of nowhere.
A feeling of frustration and disappointment washed over us. However, we knew we had to stay positive and find a solution. Dad lifted the hood (引擎盖) and examined the engine, hoping to find a simple fix. After some time, he discovered a loose wire that might cause the problem. With his limited knowledge of car mechanics, he managed to reconnect the wire. To our relief, the engine roared back to life. We cheered, grateful that the problem was resolved without needing outside help. Determined to reach our destination, we got back on the road, hoping the worst was behind us.

But when the rain poured down, we knew the bad luck wasn’t over. The heavy rain made it even harder to see the road ahead, and the wind started to blow strongly. The car began to shake and swerve on the wet road, making us all very nervous. Dad had to drive very slowly and carefully, trying to keep the car under control. We prayed that the rain would stop soon and our journey would become safer.
Finally, after a long and hard journey, we arrived at the beach. Despite the setbacks we had faced, our excitement and joy knew no bounds. We ran towards the beach, feeling the sand beneath our feet and the warm sun on our faces. The beautiful scenery and the sound of the ocean waves made all the trouble we had gone through seem worth it. We spent the rest of the day playing in the water, building sandcastles, and enjoying each other’s company. It was a trip we would never forget, filled with both challenges and wonderful memories.

Near daybreak the previous day, my friend Jess and I set out on a journey southwest from our snow-covered home in Ottawa, bound for Arizona, a warm place to escape the freezing winter. After loading our equipment and my dog Bailey into my old car, we drove along the freeway with the radio playing lively tunes. Bailey, comfortably sitting on the back seat, added to the joy of the moment. Life couldn't have felt more perfect.
As the miles accumulated behind us, by noon the following day, we pulled off at a rest area with spring-like temperatures. It was an ideal setting for a picnic-style break outside the car. After a refreshing walk, we ate salads and cheese with the sun shining brightly on us. However, the road called us, so unwillingly we headed for the car.
Once the food was stored in the trunk, I opened the back door, throwing my keys onto the front seat, and settled Bailey on the back seat before shutting the door with force. However, as I reached for the driver's door handle, a sudden realization struck me.
“Oh, Jess, the door is locked.”
“What do you mean 'locked' How did that happen ” Jess questioned with concern.
A wave of fear washed over me as I pieced together the situation. The remote likely triggered (触发) the lock when I threw it onto the driver's seat. Inside the car were our purses, keys, and most importantly, Bailey. The rising temperatures now posed a serious threat to her-being trapped inside a hot box without water.
Assessing the problem with a clearer mind, I instantly reached out to a local auto repair service for assistance. Unfortunately, they couldn't guarantee their arrival time due to staffing shortages, leaving me anxious about Bailey's well-being. The danger of heatstroke (中暑) weighed heavily on my mind, fueling my urgency to find a solution. Breaking the window, which had been my last choice, seemed to be the only one.

【答案】Para 1:
Just then a large truck approached. The driver, a kind-looking man, slowed down and stopped next to us. Upon learning our situation, he immediately offered to help. He jumped out of his truck and retrieved a tool from his toolbox. With a few swift strokes, he was able to unlock the door, allowing us to access the car. We hurriedly got inside, relieved to find Bailey panting heavily but otherwise unharmed. She jumped into my arms, her tail wagging with joy. We expressed our gratitude to the truck driver, who waved and drove off into the distance.
Para 2:
Finally Bailey was saved and my car remained whole. We spent the rest of the day driving, grateful for the truck driver's timely assistance. As the sun set, we found a cozy motel and settled in for the night. The next morning, we continued our journey, grateful for the small miracles that happen in life. And we learned a valuable lesson: always check that the car doors are unlocked before shutting them. From then on, we made it a habit to double-check before we left the car, ensuring that such a situation would never happen again.

Being the youngest in my family has had its advantages, of course. But being the youngest also came with its fair share of troubles. I was often told what I couldn’t do and why. I knew that my family loved me. They always tried to protect me, help me and take care of me, but I couldn’t wait to show them I could do things by myself.
It was a hot day in Florida. The school year had just ended and it was time for summer vacation. We had just gotten a little black dog who we named One-Eyed.
Everybody wanted to do something for the dog: feed him, teach him tricks and take long walks with him. Everybody was so happy to have this little active, playful new addition to our family. I was so desperate to pet One-Eyed myself, too.
Every time I asked my brother or my sister if I could do that, they would shout, “No!” or tell me that I had germs (细菌). Once, they even convinced me that I had so many germs and that if I touched One-Eyed he would die! I really believed them and was scared that something terrible would happen to the dog. Once I even confessed to my mom that I touched the dog when no one noticed. At first, my mom seemed very confused about what I was telling her, but then she realized that they were playing a joke on me to keep me away from the dog. My mom criticized my brother and sister, “You’d better stop teasing your little brother!” Little brother! That’s exactly what I was. That really got my blood boiling.
The depression built up inside me as I watched them enjoy their time with One-Eyed, excluding me from the joyous moments. I knew I was capable of taking care of myself and forming my own connection with our new lovely friend. Determination filled my heart, fueling a newfound sense of independence.

【答案】
I was to prove to everyone I could pet and play with One-Eyed. Determined, I approached One-Eyed slowly, extending my hand towards him. As I got closer, the dog wagged his tail and looked up at me, as if he knew I was about to do something brave. Taking a deep breath, I gently placed my hand on his furry head. The moment our skin touched, I felt an incredible rush of joy and excitement. One-Eyed didn’t seem bothered at all; in fact, he seemed to enjoy the attention. It was as if a bond had instantly formed between us.
Seeing this, my brother and sister couldn’t believe their eyes. Their jaws dropped in astonishment. “You did it!” My sister exclaimed, her voice filled with awe. My brother, still in disbelief, stammered, “But…but we told you all those things!” I smiled triumphantly, realizing that I had proven them wrong. “You see,” I said confidently, “I am capable of doing things on my own. And just because I’m the youngest doesn’t mean I can’t take care of myself and be responsible.” Being the youngest had its challenges, but it also shaped me into the resilient, determined person I am today. And I will forever be grateful to One-Eyed for showing me that age and size don’t define one’s abilities.

“I’ll bet Anjali knows. Right, Anjali Why don’t you show us since you’re the star student,” Deepak taunted (奚落).
Anjali was confused. She wasn’t trying to show off. She was just playing tabla (印度塔不拉鼓), like everyone else. And why was Deepak being so mean lately Is it because tabla is a boy’s thing She didn’t care that people thought it was a boys’ instrument. Anjali knew there was no such thing. She danced her fingers across the tabla to perform the composition in confusion. “Ugh!” Anjali heard someone groan, and she stopped playing.
“I guess I don’t know it that well after all,” Anjali said sheepishly to the teacher, Mr. Zakir. Her stomach was doing flip-flops. That wasn’t true. Not even a little. Mr. Zakir’s eyes narrowed. He looked like he was about to say something, but changed his mind. “The recital (演奏会) is next week, everyone. Keep practicing. I will be announcing who will get to perform onstage with me at my next concert!” Anjali had dreamed of a moment like that. She wanted to win the opportunity, but she needed to sort things straight with Deepak first.
As the class was dismissed, Anjali hurried over to Deepak. When she finally made eye contact with him, he purposely looked away and walked off. The next day at school, Anjali overheard Deepak whispering to Mary. “People are only interested because she’s the only girl in tabla class and they want her to feel special. She’s not that good—” Anjali was furious. She excused herself and went to the bathroom. She took some deep breaths but couldn’t relax. Her heart was pounding:
“It’s not my fault that people make a big deal about a girl playing tabla. I make mistakes too, but I work really hard. Maybe he should too. He should be less mean and practice more.”
“If I play in this concert, no one will talk to me again. He will turn everyone against me.”
“I don’t want to see a tabla or hear a tabla or play a tabla EVER AGAIN!!” Anjali yelled at the mirror. It was quiet for a moment. She believed it was one of her darkest days ever.

【答案】One Possible Version
Paragraph 1:
Stepping out of the bathroom, Anjali saw some inspiring posters on the wall. One of them illustrated with several instruments and a quote “Never dim your light.” For that very moment, Anjali thought about how she was mesmerized the first time she saw someone playing tabla, by the beautiful sounds he was creating with his hands. She knew that tabla was meant for her. When the day of the recital finally arrived, Anjali was determined to do her very best, regardless of the outcome. She was not going to let anyone make her feel bad, whether it was for being good at something or for being a girl. And as expected, she delivered a flawless performance.
Paragraph 2:
After the recital, Deepak walked up to Anjali. “Very impressive.” He remarked awkwardly that he was just jealous because tabla should be a boy’s instrument. Anjali shrugged, “You know there is no such thing.” As Anjali took one last look at the stage, she felt such a relief. Under the spotlight was the set of tabla, glittering on the stage just as she did a few minutes earlier. Among countless compliments and congratulations from the audience, Anjali heard a little sweet voice, “Bravo, Anjali!!” She turned to find a little girl looking up at her. “I didn’t know girls could play tabla,” she said. “Girls can do everything boys do,” Anjali beamed, “Never dim your light”.

Several years ago, I worked as a writing teacher in a rural middle school. I knew all my students. They trusted me with their stories and so I was given the privilege of having a secret bond with each one of them. I taught my students about the power of words, and tried to let them find expression through writing. We learned to trust each other, because we learned how hard it was to write openly and honestly, and we learned sharing your words took courage. I was always amazed at the words that came from my students’ hearts.
Later, we had a new student to the school, Al. Al was small and looked younger than other students in my class. He was with us for only a short while and still trying to fit in. So I was a little surprised when he volunteered to read. I smiled and nodded for him to do, while in my mind I was afraid that the others would make fun of the new kid after he read. The room fell silent, and Al began to read.
“If I had one wish, it would be to meet my dad...” He started out loud and clear.
He had held the attention of my usually restless students for what seemed like 15 minutes. He told of how he had never known his father, who had left the family when he was a baby. He shared the intimate details of his struggles to be the only man in the house at such a young age, of having to mow the lawn and fix broken pipes. He revealed to us the thoughts that went through his mind constantly about where his father might be and why he might have left.

【答案】范文
I looked around the classroom, finding no snickers. They all leaned forward in rapt attention. Instead of any signs of disdain, I witnessed a sea of silent, attentive faces. A few heads were nodding and a glistening of tears shimmered in the corners of some eyes. Obviously, Al’s words had touched them deeply. Our classroom had become a safe space for sharing, a testament to the power of empathy and understanding. As their teacher, I felt a surge of pride. I smiled and nodded at Al, encouraging him to continue.
When Al finished the last sentence, all the class stood up and applauded. The applause echoed through the classroom, indicating the fitting-in of Al. As their applause subsided, I could see a new light in their eyes forged by Al’s sharing. Not only did Al’s bravery touch their hearts, but also sowed the seeds of compassion and acceptance that would continue to grow within our classroom. It was a reminder that in our shared vulnerability and honesty, we find the truest connections and the deepest truths about ourselves and each other.

Bobby, my brother, and I would spend our usual Saturday with Grandpa, cleaning his house. Mom would take us to his home in the early morning. Since childhood, Bobby and I had been spending the day dusting, mopping and changing the sheets on his bed.
Grandpa grew up in a poor family. His dad died when he was a teenager. Then he had tol eave school, run the family farm and raise his brother and sister. He worked as a nightdoor keeper for a company within walking distance of his home, and the highlight of his week was the reward that he gave my brother and me for cleaning. And it was the moment when we felt the happiest.
This Saturday, after Bobby and I finished cleaning, Grandpa decided to invite us to dinner. When we finally arrived at his favorite restaurant, the waitresses greeted him as along-lost elder. Their smiles and waves followed us to our favorite table as we placed our orders. And then we laughed and ate. Grandpa praised how well we had cleaned his place, telling anyone who would like to listen about every task we had accomplished.
Regardless of who was serving us at the time, each of the other waitresses would come up to say “hi” to Grandpa and congratulate his grandkids on their work. It was a restaurant, but it was like our home. When dinner was over, the waitress would bring the check and hand it to Grandpa. This time, it was Gloria that bent close to him, and told him the amount of the check.
Grandpa carefully dug into the pocket of his trousers and brought out a worn coin purse. He carefully laid out the coins and paid the bill. Then he gave Gloria a tip, but it wasn’t enough. I was ashamed that he got the amount of the tip wrong, and we were embarrassed. I was about to say something when Gloria grabbed my hands. “Come and get some flowers, today’s gifts, Susie,” she said as she led me toward the counter.

Everyone here respects him so much.” I listened carefully. “If you blame him for not tipping enough, it will not only embarrass Grandpa, but also make us sad.” Gloria continued.
I listened to Gloria and stared at those flowers, deep in thought. I seemed to understand what Gloria said. “If you hadn’t appeared in time, I might have made a big mistake. May I have these flowers ” I whispered. “Of course.” she replied, smiling. I took the flowers and went straight to my grandfather, handing them to him with both hands and saying, “Thank you for treating us to a big meal.” Grandpa happily took the flowers and touched my head. Everyone in the restaurant was happy, too.

Carter grabbed his left calf (小腿肚), trying to move his leg in different positions. Judging from Carter’s desperate expression, Mario realized Carter was possibly experiencing an unbearable cramp just as he himself had gone through minutes before. But the New Hampton players were farther away from the quarterback.
