Pamela Malhotra has always attached great importance to education. However, life always seemed to “get in the way” every time she tried to finish her bachelor’s degree. The single mom was so devoted to working to support her two children that she repeatedly put her own education goals on hold, giving up her college program on two separate occasions over the years.
When he was just five years old, her son Bonifacio Malhotra noticed her struggling to get her degree, and he made a promise to help her. “I remember I just told my mom … one day, it’s gonna be you and me,” Bonifacio said. “We’re going to gain our degrees at the same time.” Those words proved to be prophetic for the mom-and-son duo, who currently walked across the stage at the university to collect their bachelor’s degrees together!
“That promise, he never allowed it to die,” said Pamela. “He continuously confirmed that we’re gonna do this.” Their path to graduation wasn’t easy, but Bonifacio stayed true to his promise and helped his mother along the way. The two hold two associate’s degrees each, so in the fall of 2021 they registered together in bachelor-level online courses. They both found the classes challenging, but Bonifacio stepped up as the cheerleader his mother needed. “Mom, you’ve got to keep it going. I know you want to stop. We must keep going,” Bonifacio recalled. “The main thing was just trying to get everything lined up and stay on top of all the work.”
It took the Malhotras two years to finish their bachelor’s degrees, hers in humanities and Bonifacio’s in public safety administration. Pamela plans to stay at her job as a coordinator, and Bonifacio has accepted a job at university to help other students succeed in college, too.
Pamela said she was incredibly proud of her son’s achievement, and she personally couldn’t have reached her lifelong goal without the support of her family, especially him. “Between my son and my daughter, they were my greatest supporter,” Pamela proudly said.
24.What does the underlined word “prophetic” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Professional. B.Particular. C.Precious. D.Predictable.
25.What do we know about the Malhotras
A.They took online courses at the same time.
B.Pamela thought the courses were more challenging.
C.Bonifacio majored in humanities at university.
D.Pamela now works as a university teacher.
26.Which of the following statement can best describe Bonifacio
A.He’s the good man of the house. B.He’s a man of all work.
C.He’s a man among men. D.He’s a man of his word.
27.What can be the best title of the the passage
A.We Value the Time Being with Families
B.Families Help Each Other
C.The Home Is Our Heaven
D.Each Family Has Its Own Problems
【答案】24.D 25.A 26.D 27.B
根据画线词上文“We’re going to gain our degrees at the same time. (我们将同时获得学位)”和下文“who currently walked across the stage at the university to collect their bachelor’s degrees together (目前,他们一起走过大学里的讲台领取学士学位)”可知,Bonifacio曾对母亲Pamela说过两人将同时获得学位,后来他们真的做到了。 A.
根据第三段中“The two hold two associate’s degrees each, so in the fall of 2021 they registered together in bachelor-level online courses. (两人各自拥有两个副学士学位,所以在2021年秋季,他们一起注册了学士学位的在线课程)”可知,儿子Bonifacio和母亲Pamela同时参加了在线课程。故选A项。
根据第三段中“That promise, he never allowed it to die (那个承诺,他从未让它消失)”和“Their path to graduation wasn’t easy, but Bonifacio stayed true to his promise and helped his mother along the way. (他们的毕业之路并不容易,但Bonifacio信守诺言,一路帮助他的母亲)”可知,Bonifacio信守对母亲的诺言,在攻读学位的过程中帮助母亲,最终让梦想成真。因此,他是个守信用的人。故选D项。
27.主旨大意题。通读全文,并结合最后一段中“Pamela said she was incredibly proud of her son’s achievement, and she personally couldn’t have reached her lifelong goal without the support of her family, especially him.

The evolution of butterflies continues very fast. Species with larger wingspans(翼幅) have expanded their range in high-latitude parts of North America as the climate has warmed, while smaller butterflies and those adapted to cold conditions have tended to decline.
Vaughn Shirey at Georgetown University in Washington DC and his colleagues built a computational model to analyse the presence of 90 butterfly species above 45 north in North America from 1970 to 2019.
The team analysed how shifting monthly minimum temperatures over the past 50 years may have affected the ranges of butterflies.
The monthly minimum temperatures increased by 0. 86℃(1. 5°F), on average, across the study region from the 1970s to the 2010s. As temperatures rose, butterfly species with larger wingspans were more likely to spread out into a greater proportion of the study region. But for smaller butterflies, rising temperatures were linked with a a smaller number in the area over which they were found.
“It seems logical to assume that, if species with larger wingspans have the capacity to better travel to new suitable habitats, it gives those species an advantage in a changing climate,” says Yoan Fourcade at the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Sciences in Paris.
Butterflies adapted to warmer temperatures also seemed to have dispersed(分散) more across the study region than those adapted to colder climates.
Climate change has been linked with a fall in some butterfly species, including the monarch (Danaus plexippus)in North America. But some appear to be adapting: a 2022 study found that British butterflies are steadily getting bigger in response to rising temperatures.
28.What is the focus of the article
A.The impact of climate change on butterflies. B.The migration patterns of butterflies.
C.The size of butterfly wingspans. D.The smaller number of butterflies.
29.What is the relationship between rising temperatures and smaller butterflies
A.Temperatures have little effect on smaller butterflies.
B.Smaller butterflies have increased in number.
C.Smaller butterflies have reduced in number.
D.Smaller butterflies have migrated to colder climates.
30.What advantage do species with larger wingspans have in a rising climate
A.They are better able to travel to new suitable habitats.
B.They are better adapted to colder climates.
C.They are more resistant to climate change.
D.They are more likely to disperse across.
31.What does the author emphasize about butterflies in the last paragraph
A.They are migrating to warmer climates. B.They are becoming smaller in size.
C.They are reducing in number. D.They are getting bigger.
【答案】28.C 29.C 30.A 31.D
根据文章第一段“The evolution of butterflies continues very fast. Species with larger wingspans(翼幅) have expanded their range in high-latitude parts of North America as the climate has warmed, while smaller butterflies and those adapted to cold conditions have tended to decline.(蝴蝶的进化速度非常快。随着气候变暖,在北美高纬度地区,翼展较大的蝴蝶扩大了它们的活动范围,而体型较小的蝴蝶和适应寒冷环境的蝴蝶则趋于减少。)”以及文章第四段“As temperatures rose, butterfly species with larger wingspans were more likely to spread out into a greater proportion of the study region. But for smaller butterflies, rising temperatures were linked with a a smaller number in the area over which they were found.(随着气温上升,翼展较大的蝴蝶种类更有可能扩散到更大比例的研究区域。但对于体型较小的蝴蝶来说,气温上升与它们所在地区的蝴蝶数量减少有关。)”可知,文章的主题是蝴蝶翼展的大小。故选C。
29.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“But for smaller butterflies, rising temperatures were linked with a a smaller number in the area over which they were found.(但对于体型较小的蝴蝶来说,气温上升与它们所在地区的蝴蝶数量减少有关。)”
根据文章第五段““It seems logical to assume that, if species with larger wingspans have the capacity to better travel to new suitable habitats, it gives those species an advantage in a changing climate,” says Yoan Fourcade at the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Sciences in Paris.(巴黎生态与环境科学研究所的Yoan Fourcade说:“如果翼展较大的物种有能力更好地前往新的栖息地,这似乎是合乎逻辑的假设,这使这些物种在不断变化的气候中具有优势。”)” 故选A。
根据文章最后一段“But some appear to be adapting: a 2022 study found that British butterflies are steadily getting bigger in response to rising temperatures.(但有些似乎正在适应:2022年的一项研究发现,

It’s been about six months since ChatGPT was released to the public, and people everywhere realized just how powerful artificial intelligence already is. Suddenly, we started using the AI chatbot to do all sorts of things, like writing songs, taking the bar exam, and identifying bugs in computer code.
All the wonder and excitement about ChatGPT and other Al platforms comes mixed with anxiety: Will AI take our jobs Will it block democracy Will it kill us all Serious people are asking these questions. Just this week, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the company that makes ChatGPT, testified before Congress and called for regulation (规定) of AI systems.
But there is a glimmer of hope—in the form of an economic study. The study looked at the customer service department of a big software company, and it found that ChatGPT made workers much more productive. More interesting, most of those gains came from less skilled workers, while the more skilled workers showed only slight improvement. Put in other words, Al narrowed the productivity gap between lower skilled workers and workers with more skills. This finding is very different from previous findings about the effect of technology on workers over the last four decades. A whole generation of economic research shows that computers have been a major force for increasing inequality. A force for a reduced middle class.
David Autor is a professor at MIT, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest labor economists in the world. He led a lot of that initial research about the computer age and the labor market. And he thinks this study, and another one like it, suggest that we could use Al to expand job opportunities, lower barriers to entry to a whole range of occupations, and reduce inequality.
Today on the show, the American middle class has been reducing for more than forty years. Could AI help change that trend (趋势)
32.What can we say about ChatGPT
A.It can do housework for us. B.It makes people feel worried.
C.It satisfies the majority of people D.It came out more than six mouths ago.
33.What does the study tell us about AI
A.It causes inequality. B.It lessens the middle class.
C.It is useless for skilled workers. D.It improves workers’ productivity.
34.What is David Autor’s attitude towards AI
A.Supportive. B.Doubtful. C.Objective. D.Unconcerned.
35.Which can be the best title for the text
A.People’s Concern About AI B.Calls for Regulation of AI Systems
C.ChatGPT Can Make Workers More Productive D.How AI Could Help Rebuild the Middle Class
【答案】32.B 33.D 34.A 35.D
根据第二段的“All the wonder and excitement about ChatGPT and other Al platforms comes mixed with anxiety: Will AI take our jobs Will it block democracy Will it kill us all (关于ChatGPT和其他人工智能平台的所有惊奇和兴奋都伴随着忧虑:人工智能会抢走我们的工作吗?它会阻碍民主吗?它会杀死我们所有人吗?)”可知,ChatGPT让人们感到担忧。故选B。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段的“The study looked at the customer service department of a big software company, and it found that ChatGPT made workers much more productive.(这项研究调查了一家大型软件公司的客户服务部门,发现ChatGPT使员工的工作效率大大提高。)”
根据倒数第二段的“And he thinks this study, and another one like it, suggest that we could use Al to expand job opportunities, lower barriers to entry to a whole range of occupations, and reduce inequality.(他认为这项研究,以及另一项类似的研究,表明我们可以利用人工智能来扩大就业机会,降低进入各种职业的门槛,减少不平等。)”
通读全文,尤其是倒数第三段的“A whole generation of economic research shows that computers have been a major force for increasing inequality. A force for a reduced middle class.(整整一代的经济研究表明,计算机一直是加剧不平等的主要力量。中产阶级人数减少的力量。)”,倒数第二段的“And he thinks this study, and another one like it, suggest that we could use Al to expand job opportunities, lower barriers to entry to a whole range of occupations, and reduce inequality.(他认为这项研究,以及另一项类似的研究,表明我们可以利用人工智能来扩大就业机会,降低进入各种职业的门槛,减少不平等。)”和最后一段的“Today on the show, the American middle class has been reducing for more than forty years. Could AI help change that trend (趋势) (现在正在上演的是美国中产阶级的人数已经减少了40多年。人工智能能帮助改变这一趋势吗?)”可知,本文主要讲的是由ChatGPT的发布所引起的关于人工智能对中产阶级所带来的改变的讨论,因此最好的题目是D选项“How AI Could Help Rebuild the Middle Class(人工智能如何帮助重建中产阶级)”。故选D。

When friendships fall apart, it can feel like it’s impossible to restore them. 36 . However, some can be saved. If you’d like to restart a long-lost friendship, here is a four-step plan.
37
Start by calling or writing a note to communicate one message: “Our friendship is valuable to me, and I miss you. Is there any way to settle what stands between us ” This simple step is a way to open the doors to reconciliation(和解). Set the ground to see if your friend is willing to seek solutions as well.
Forgive as best you can
It’s tough to let go if you’ve been wronged. Feeling the need for revenge(报复) is natural. However, the problem with revenge is that it could become a vicious cycle(恶性循环). How can you stop this By forgiving. Forgiveness puts an end to all. 38 . Keep this in mind, and you will be well on your way to forgiveness.
Find out the problem
Finding out what went wrong is very important. Don’t pretend there is no problem. 39 . If a friendship can’t survive such a conversation, that may be a sign that it ought to end.
Rebuild respect
The final step is to rebuild respect. 40 . Highlight those you like best about them. Next, you need to admit your mistake. Take ownership, and ask for forgiveness. If you do this, then mutual respect is almost certain.
A.Offer a sincere apology
B.Make meaningful contact
C.Get to the bottom of it together and move forward
D.Some broken friendships may just stay that way
E.If you’ve been hurt, think about your friend’s most admirable qualities
F.Restored relationships give us perspective on our experiences, and deepen our lives
G.The problems that cause the breakdown of a friendship are not one person’s responsibility
【答案】36.D 37.B 38.G 39.C 40.E

What is being said may be something unforgettable or something funny, something deeply emotional or something that has just made the writer stop and think. Whatever it is, the theme of the poem will be something worth 59 (say). If you are writing a poem yourself and are not very 60 (experience), it’s best to choose a topic you feel deeply about. Writing a poem 61 begins with ‘I remember’ is a good way to focus your attention 62 something really memorable.
However, two poems could easily have 63 same theme and yet be completely different. What makes 64 (they) different How they are expressed is the key. It is the way the poet writes that you

The Lost Dog
One summer day, I went out my back door and found a small dog sitting in the grass. The dog stood up and wagged (摇) his tail when he saw me. I touched his short brown-and-white coat and checked him for a collar or ID tag He had neither. I lived in a small town. I knew all the dogs in the neighborhood, but I’d never seen him before. I told him to sit. To my surprise, he sat at once. “Stay,” I said, as I made my way into the storeroom where we kept the dry dog food for our dogs. When I returned, he was sitting in the exact place where I had left him. “Wow! You sure are trained,” I said. I set out some water and food, and the dog started eating.
I left him in the yard and went inside to read through the newspaper’s “Lost and Found” column (专栏). Unluckily, nobody had reported a missing brown-and-white dog. An hour later, my brother came home and asked why there was a strange dog in the yard. “I don’t know where he came from,” I said. “But he is owned by someone. Maybe he’s just lost and will find his way home.” Later that afternoon, my brother and I went outside and found the dog walking by the back door. We played with him for a while and found that the dog knew tricks. He could sit, stay, roll over, and lie down according to instructions. He also loved jumping to catch a tennis ball in mid-air. When my parents came home, we showed them the dog and all his tricks. My parents were shocked by his skills as much as we were. None of us had ever seen a dog so well-trained before. The dog got along well with our dogs, and we gave him a comfortable place to sleep in the storeroom.
The next day, I checked the “Lost and Found” column again, also with no result. Then, I called the newspaper and ran a “Found” advertisement describing our new friend.
Three days later, we got a call from a woman who had seen our “Found” advertisement in the newspaper.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
When the woman’s truck got near our yard, the dog ran to greet her.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Three days later, we got a call from a woman who had seen our “Found” advertisement in the newspaper. She said the dog sounded like hers and gave us a perfect description of his markings. I asked her if the dog knew any tricks. She laughed and said that he loved to catch tennis balls. I gave her directions to our house, and she said she’d be here within an hour to get the dog. I told my brother that the dog’s owner was coming to get him, and we played with the dog in the yard, waiting for her.
When the woman’s truck got near our yard, the dog ran to greet her. He wagged his tail and licked her face. The woman explained that she and her family had gone away on vacation for a few days, and the dog had got out when a neighbor came over to feed him. The woman was happy to get her dog back because her children were heartbroken without him. Finally, the dog jumped into the truck and wagged his tail at us as he headed for home. My brother and I were really happy for him.

And he thinks this study,
and another one like it, suggest that we could use Al to expand job opportunities, lower barriers to entry to a whole range of occupations, and reduce inequality.

39 . If a
friendship can’t survive such a conversation, that may be a sign that it ought to end.
Rebuild respect
The final step is to rebuild respect. 40 . Highlight those you like best about them. Next, you need to admit your mistake. Take ownership, and ask for forgiveness. If you do this, then mutual respect is almost certain.

Poetry 56 (communicate) in words. To do that 57 (successful), it must have something important to say, expressing it in a unique way. Whether you are writing poetry yourself or analysing (分析) poems 58 (write) by someone else, you should be thinking about these two broad categories: what is being said, and how it is being expressed.
It is the way the poet writes that you need to analyse if you are writing about a poem, and if you are writing one yourself, you must choose the form and the words which suit what you want 65 (express).

Then, I called the
newspaper and ran a “Found” advertisement describing our new friend.
