The lorry’s a bit like a house on wheels (轮子), but it has less space. But we have everything we need for our journey. It’s not very fast. That is OK—we’re not in a hurry.
Our school books are the same as the ones back home, but my mum gives us lessons, and then sends our work to teachers on the Internet. My favourite way of learning, however, is by going on special trips that my parents plan. We’ve seen so many amazing (令人大为惊奇的) places, people and animals.
In September, we went camping in the Kalahari Desert (卡拉哈里沙漠). We learned lots about the night sky. The Kalahari’s not like other deserts because it gets such a lot of rain—some parts of it look really green. We had a guide, and he told us about all the amazing animals that live there.
In November, we went on a whale—watching (观鲸鱼) tour in South Africa and saw six whales. We said hello to them. One even swam under our boat. That was really thrilling. I knew whales were big, but I couldn’t believe they were so large.
In December, we drove to Boulders Beach in South Africa. There are thousands of African penguins (企鹅) on the beach. These amazing black and white birds can swim, but cannot fly. (22-23八年级·广东广州·期末)Could you imagine cars driving without human drivers Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. This August, more and more driverless taxis run on roads in many big cities in China.
Why do we develop self-driving cars Self-driving cars give us many benefits. They use computers to sense the things around them and make better use of space. This means fewer traffic jams and better parking of cars. Many people cannot drive for various reasons, including age, disability, or lack of experience. Now, they can get around more easily. Driving becomes more convenient.
According to a research, each year, over 1.3 million people die in car accidents around the world, and many more get hurt. Self-driving cars can reduce (减少) road accidents by 90% and save a lot of money. The main cause of car accidents is human mistakes. By using computers, self-driving cars don’t make poor decisions or lose attention like humans do. They can improve driving safety.
But self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react (反应) as fast as a human driver can. Also, during weather events like heavy snow, it will be difficult for self-driving cars to see the lines on the road. It might lead to an accident. The computer system in the car can also get hacked (非法入侵) by someone, causing it to crash.

(22-23八年级·广东广州·期末)Wuyi Rock Tea is a kind of Oolong tea. It got its name from the place where it’s produced—Wuyi Mountain in Fujian Province. The tea trees usually grow on rock cracks(缝隙). The traditional home of Rock Tea is only from a small area in the mountain. Wuyi Rock Tea is famous for its rich smell and good flavour. There are different kinds. The best is Dahongpao.
With its long history, Wuyi Rock Tea dates back to the Shang Dynasty. People used to send it to the emperor as a tribute(贡品). In 2006, the skills of making Wuyi Rock Tea were added to China’s national intangible cultural heritage list.
Zhang Huichun, 65, is a master of making Wuyi Rock Tea. In 1980, he learned to make the tea and opened a tea factory. To his surprise, the skills were very complex. After 10 years of learning, he could finally make the tea by himself. Zhang said there were 13 steps to make it, including drying, shaking and roasting(焙火). The most challenging for him is shaking. It takes strength and patience to shake the tea leaves by holding the round bamboo
trays. “You have to decide when the best time is to stop based on the color,” Zhang said. “Sometimes you stop after shaking dozens of(几十)times, while sometimes it can be hundreds of times. Only years of experience can help you figure it out(弄明白).”
“The last step—roasting—is also important. With three stages, it usually takes more than 20 hours! Each stage needs temperatures from 125℃ to 155℃. Tea makers have to keep a close eye on the process. Every 50 minutes, you have to turn over the leaves, or it might burn,” Zhang said.
Zhang is already a master, but he is still learning. “The most fascinating part is that every step is full of changes—different tea trees, weather and temperatures. Every time is an adventure.”
In recent years, Zhang has often worked with schools to train tea makers. “It’s my responsibility to pass on the traditional skills,” he said.

When we arrived home, I asked my mom to make some hot pancakes. It would be great to have pancakes during heavy rains. Later, we three sat at the table, having a good conversation as usual while eating delicious pancakes. Suddenly, we heard a noise from somewhere near my house. We got worried and went outside to see what happened.
We saw a dog, abandoned(遗弃)by someone near the pipe next to our house. I could hardly see any other puppies as cute as this dog, shaking and fully wet on that cold rainy night. I felt sorry for the dog and gave my pancakes and some bread to him. He ate it in just a few seconds. Then we decided to take him home. We gave him good food and a hot shower, and dried him with our own towel and named it Charlie.
Ever since that lucky rainy night, Charlie has been with us. Every day, he plays games happily with us and keeps thieves and unexpected guests out of our home. He loves us as much as we love him. Whenever I have trouble with others, Charlie, my pet dog, will always be there to support me.

(22-23八年级·广东广州·期末)Classic Chinese cartoons bring joy to most of us. Last month, three classic Chinese cartoons came out in the cinemas again. Let’s see how old artists put Chinese culture and art into the cartoons to make them classic.
The Legend of Sealed Book tells the story of the boy Dansheng. He practices great tricks(魔法)from the book to help people. The film uses face painting from the Peking Opera. It helps to show the characters’ personalities(特征). Lovely Dansheng looks like wawasheng, roles for kids in Peking Opera. A bad person in the story looks like a fool, with a large white part in the center of his face.
Little Tadpole Looking for Mummy is China’s first ink(墨水)wash cartoon. Artists drew all the animals, plants and rocks with ink and brushes. They learned from the great artist Qi Baishi. Though it’s only about 15 minutes long, it took lots of work. Artists drew everything by hand. One second of the cartoon needed 24 pictures! Fifty-nine years later, the 2020 cartoon series Fog Hills of Five Elements also uses this style.
Pigsy Eats Watermelon is China’s first paper cutting cartoon. This 15-minute cartoon came out in 1958. Artists cut Zhu Bajie out of colored paper. Then they moved its body parts and let it eat the watermelon. Making a paper cutting cartoon was not easy. The characters’ moves were not easy either.
It’s clear that there is a lot of work to do to make self-driving cars a common and safe sight on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen.

B.Because their computers can predict all road accidents.
C.Because computers do not have attention problems.
D.Because they can see clearly even in bad weathers.
65.What is Paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The weaknesses of self-driving cars. B.The benefits of having a human driver.
C.How road accidents usually happen. D.How the computers in self-driving cars work.

It takes strength and patience to shake the tea leaves by holding the round bamboo trays.

(22-23八年级·广东深圳·期末)In the digital (数字的) world, it is far more convenient to send a text or email than send a letter. Is the writing style with a traditional pen and paper worth passing on Is it out of date Well, some people believe that writing is still useful, so maybe it’s not time to throw away your ballpoint or fountain pen yet.
Nowadays, when people require things in writing, a typed, electronic document(文件) will be mostly accepted. It could be written, saved and sent by email. But making a handwritten document is special. It needs
planning and thought, as well as practicing your handwriting. It helps you remember the spelling of words.
Some experts believe it is helpful to our brains to write with pen and paper. This is especially true for students. It is because typing notes into a computer doesn’t have enough feedback(反馈) to the brain. However, writing with pen and paper does.
According to BBC Work life website, when taking notes by hand, our brains take part in summarizing, organizing and words building. In other words, it helps train our brains. And handwriting may do good to fine skills in our hands and fingers.
Besides, writing down notes, shopping lists, or messages on the back of an envelope can still be useful in our daily lives. A handwritten letter to a friend or loved one may be more meaningful.
Katherine Moller, a writer, told the BBC, “In a world where it is so easy to go online to send an email or a fast text, it is so personal and joyful to read a letter from others, because they choose to spend some time with you.”

A.Writing a paper document by hand.
B.Sending an email through computers.

A.Because it may give enough feedback to the brain.
B.Because writing with pen and paper is fashionable.
C.Because typing notes into the computer saves time.

86.What is the main idea of Paragraph 4
A.The brain only works when we are taking notes.
B.Handwriting can train both our brains and hands.
